Head of Communications & Influencing (Maternity Cover)

We’re looking for a dynamic Head of Communications & Influencing to lead our high impact PR, media and influencing work during a period of maternity cover.
As our Head of Communications & Influencing, you’ll drive national media coverage for National Debtline and Business Debtline, act as a senior spokesperson, and lead campaigns that shape policy and support people in financial difficulty.
You’ll oversee our communications, public affairs and policy activity line managing a talented team and contributing to organisational strategy.

We’re a national charity working to prevent financial difficulty and remove problem debt from people’s lives. Through our frontline debt advice services, National Debtline and Business Debtline, plus our campaigns, research and policy work, we support hundreds of thousands of people each year.
What you’ll do
This is a wide ranging and influential leadership role where you will:
Lead our external communications strategy
· Shape impactful PR and media campaigns that boost awareness of our services
· Act as a senior media spokesperson, including on TV and radio
· Drive high impact consumer facing media coverage
· Oversee a proactive press office and strengthen relationships with key journalists
Drive our influencing and policy agenda
· Lead our influencing strategy and high profile campaigns
· Oversee policy development and public affairs engagement
· Represent the Trust at senior external meetings, including with politicians, regulators and partners
· Ensure the voices of people in debt sit at the heart of our campaigns
Lead and inspire
· Manage and develop a talented team of communications and policy professionals
· Contribute to our wider organisational strategy as part of the Leadership Group
· Foster a creative, collaborative and forward-thinking department
About you
You’ll bring:
· Significant experience in communications, PR and/or influencing
· An ability to think strategically to develop and deliver effective communications, stakeholder engagement and influencing activity
· A track record of leading impactful campaigns and securing high profile media coverage
· Strong public affairs and policy skills, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders
· Excellent leadership abilities and a passion for developing people
· Confidence acting as a media spokesperson
· A passion for making a difference to people facing debt and financial difficulty

About the Service User Network (SUN)
The SUN is an open access model of community-based facilitated group peer support for people experiencing complex emotional needs associated with complex trauma and/or a diagnosis of ‘personality disorder’. The SUN aims to help people develop effective ways of coping, reduce emergencies and improve access to appropriate services.
Those accessing the SUN may or may not have a formal diagnosis of personality disorder. Group members will have experienced longstanding emotional difficulties, isolation and may demonstrate patterns of behaviour that may not be helpful in the longer term.
About the Role
Fundamental to creating empowerment and engagement in the SUN Project is the therapeutic community principle, that the effectiveness of the service depends upon engaging group members in the task of running, delivery, development and evaluation of the service. The utilisation of SUN members’ own resources and expertise is integral to the SUN model of peer support.
SUN Facilitators will have their own lived experience of complex emotional needs associated with a diagnosis of ‘personality disorder’ and will be able to demonstrate their recovery journey. They will work closely with mental health practitioners from ELFT (East London NHS Foundation Trust) to deliver regular Service User Network (SUN) groups in different community-based locations in Bedford, Central Bedfordshire or Luton. Full training in the SUN model, and weekly supervision by a Psychotherapist / Psychologist, will be provided for all team members.
Facilitators will work to develop and support the therapeutic community principle of the SUN model and the effectiveness of the service through engaging group members in the task of running, delivery, development, and evaluation of the service. The utilisation of SUN members’ own resources and expertise is integral to the model of peer support upon which the SUN groups are based.
SUN facilitators will have regular supervision and support in this role along with appropriate training.

BVSC is looking for a Health and Wellbeing Volunteer Officer to work across two key programmes: Bexley Buddies and Digital Champions.
Through Bexley Buddies, you will support volunteer-led initiatives within GP practices that address non-medical needs, reduce social isolation and strengthen community wellbeing.
Through Digital Champions, you will recruit, train and support volunteers who help residents build digital confidence — particularly in using online health services and apps.
You will work closely with volunteers, GP surgeries, community organisations and residents to coordinate activities, build partnerships and ensure support is inclusive and impactful.
Key areas of work include:
Engaging: Working with residents, GP practices and partners to identify local health and digital support needs.
Developing: Recruiting, training and supporting volunteers to deliver safe and meaningful activities.
Coordinating: Organising borough-wide volunteer activity, peer support and training sessions.
Strengthening: Building partnerships that reduce health inequalities and improve digital access.
