The Welfare Benefits Specialist role is part of SEL Mind's exciting new expansion of one-to-one support delivered through the Southwark Wellbeing Hub. This full-time role will provide in-person support to help clients understand their entitlements and challenge negative benefit decisions.
As Welfare Benefits Specialist, you will maintain a caseload of clients with mental health issues, supporting across the full range of welfare benefits. You will work closely alongside an Advice Specialist for non-benefits needs, and with colleagues across the Southwark Wellbeing Hub to ensure joined-up support where needed.
The main working site is a community centre in SE17, with regularly-scheduled work in community centres in SE16 and SE5. As a key part of expanding equitable access to specialist advice, the role will work across the Borough of Southwark, meeting people across a variety of voluntary and statutory sites. Organisation and communication are vital to good case management, so you should have strong planning and prioritisation skills and be able to work independently and flexibly.
The role will involve:
- Ensuring excellent case management across the full range of welfare benefits to a caseload of people with mental health problems, with regular case reviews
- Supporting clients including income-maximisation, calculating benefit entitlement, drafting or writing letters, negotiating with third parties, and preparing/presenting cases to tribunals and courts as appropriate
- Maintaining effective communication with SWH teams to support clear pathways into other services, delivering a joined up service
- Ensure that all casework conforms to accepted high quality advice provision including well-organised written records, conflict of interest checks, and a key dates system

Therapeutic Management

To manage and support a staff team, including the Head of Active Recovery, a Counselling Lead, Nexus Counselling Manager, a Family Support Group Facilitator, and administrators.

To oversee all of the charity’s therapeutic services and ensure that efficient and high-quality services are delivered.

Person Specification
ESSENTIAL:

You will lead the delivery and development of community fundraising, challenge events, individual giving through community activity, and in-memory fundraising. Key Responsibilities

Duties and key responsibilities
Database Administration (Raiser’s Edge NXT)
- Manage, maintain and optimise constituent and gift data on Raiser’s Edge NXT to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Support the Database Officer with processing incoming donations from online giving platforms including JustGiving and Fundraise Up to ensure accurate integration and reconciliation.
- Support the Database Officer with monthly reconciliations between Raiser’s Edge NXT and the income spreadsheet.

About Us
Wintercomfort works with people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or with a history of homelessness. We provide services to aid every stage of recovery -from immediate basic welfare needs to long term help in identifying and dealing with the problems which are undermining their stability, and enabling them to engage with education, employment and specialist health services. National statistics rank the numbers of rough sleepers in Cambridge within the highest 20 UK local authorities.
Wintercomfort is the only day-time service in the city, providing year-round advice and support for homeless or vulnerably housed people. Over the past three decades Wintercomfort has continued to grow and adapt to meet the needs of the homeless community.
Our specialist Housing Team provides expert advice and support to help people successfully navigate the search for housing and crucially, support them to sustain life away from the street.
About you and the Role
As a member of Wintercomfort’s Project Worker Team, reporting to the Senior Tenancy Support Officer the Tenancy Support & Financial Wellbeing Project Worker is responsible for delivering Wintercomfort’s specialist range of 1:1 Pre and Post Tenancy Support, implementing proactive, holistic strategies designed to prevent people from losing their homes, whilst simultaneously providing them with the financial tools and capability needed to sustain stability, aimed at empowering Service Users to move out of the spiral of homelessness and back into mainstream society, preventing homelessness and foster financial inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
- To provide emotional and practical support and assistance to prepare and assist Service Users to move into accommodation once a placement is confirmed, working with internal and external colleagues. To work in a flexible manner within Wintercomfort and the wider community to provide outreach and support services in person, occasionally in exceptional circumstances this could include in their own home when accompanied with external partners also includes via text, email, telephone and video calls.
- To provide a wide range of resettlement-based support along with the Senior Tenancy Support Officer to ensure Service Users access the most suitable housing pathway for their individual needs. To take the lead on all housing related referrals for Service Users. To ensure all suitable Service Users are registered and supported on Homelink.
- To provide crucial assistance to tenants, focusing on maintaining tenancies, managing money and debt and improving overall financial stability – including, signposting, budgeting, welfare benefits checks, rent arrears support, setting-up and managing utilities, housing related life skills, offering guidance and support to enable Service Users to maintain their own homes, aiming to prevent eviction and enhance quality of life.
- To provide on-going long term tenancy support to Service Users moving into independent living, this includes private rental housing or alternative housing pathways without any on site support. To assist with hand over post tenancy support to accommodation providers at a suitable point in the Service User support pathway, with the aim of enabling long-term independence.
- To ensure all Service Users have access to external grants and any available funding to support their individual needs to maintain their accommodation. Signposting and assisting with applications for funding to assist people moving into accommodation are supported with the appropriate items: floor coverings, white goods, basic furniture and home furnishings.
- To support residents to keep their current homes, including mediation with landlords, accessing legal support on evictions, addressing anti-social behaviour, identifying high risk groups targeting support towards vulnerable groups such as those fleeing difficulties, leaving prison, hospital or care systems.
- To ensure that accurate records are kept, documenting the support services provided to Wintercomfort’s service users onto the Salesforce/Inform system. Ensuring that record keeping meets the requirements of internal and external monitoring of outcomes, assisting with reports and case studies to the fundraising team.

Herts Mind Network’s proven counselling provision has significantly expanded over the last two years, employing over 100 self-employed and/or volunteer counsellors. We provide a range of funded, affordable and paid for counselling services, through 1:1, group, couples and play provision.
About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated, proactive, qualified clinician to oversee our counsellors, providing clinical guidance, to ensure safe, effective practice. In this highly rewarding role, you will be clinically responsible for supporting clients and counsellors across multiple counselling services.
As a Clinical Lead you will be an integral member of the counselling management team, providing clinical knowledge and expertise into decision making, as well as ensuring we continue to deliver high quality, safe therapeutic services.
You will providing clinical support to counsellors (sessional, volunteers and trainees) including compassionate and safe supervision, ensuring the delivery and development of counselling provision is effective. You will also oversee our trainee placement scheme, enabling a smooth transition from application to onboarding.
Alongside other senior members of the counselling team, you will support the Service Manager to implement strategic service plans. By instilling HMN’s values throughout the provision, person centred care will be at the core of your principles.
The successful candidate will have a BACP recognised Diploma in Counselling at Level 4 with a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience, an understanding of person centred care, and the recovery model in mental health with demonstrable understanding of relevant legislation and policies such as the Data Protection Act, Safeguarding and Protection of Vulnerable Adults, Safeguarding Children and the BACP ethical framework and will understand of the relationship between mental health and social issues and how these issues may impact on physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Share is a registered charity and a centre for training and wellbeing. Our Go Anywhere, Do Anything (GADA) project is part of our social inclusion provision at Share. It sees volunteers and students go on regular social outings to do things our students want to do. Our volunteers make this possible, supporting our students to navigate challenges and have fun on the trips. We currently run 36 GADA trips a year but are only scratching the surface of demand. We are looking for someone to support the growth of this project to 65 trips a year.
Main responsibilities

You’ll work with our students to co-design a programme of GADA trips, as well as sign up students and volunteers to the trips.

You’ll recruit and train GADA volunteers and support them on trips.

You’ll organise GADA trips, including risk assessing them, planning how to make them accessible, carrying out administration such as buying tickets, and providing volunteers with the information they need.

You’ll provide broader volunteer support, helping to deliver inductions for new volunteers, including supporting with interviews, taster days and induction training.

You will support volunteer check-ins and surveys for all volunteers, including those in non-GADA roles.

Essential Criteria:

- To facilitate outdoor adventure activities using Key Enterprises in Benton, North Tyneside as a base with the goal of achieving outcomes and promoting wellbeing through outdoor pursuits.

- Experience of supporting adults with additional needs and the different approaches to communication, engagement and activities that maximise benefit
- To run activities that are accessible to a range of abilities and co-ordinate volunteers to support.
- To be able to motivate service users to take on new challenges (ranging from learning to ride a bike, engaging with exercise for the first time to bigger adventures in the outdoors such as rock climbing, overnight camps and longer hikes/walks/expeditions)
- To maintain and service a small fleet of bicycles
- A knowledge of areas in the North East that would be suitable for outdoor pursuits including hikes, nature walks, camping and bike rides. We’re in close proximity to Newcastle upon Tyne, Whitley Bay, Tynemouth, Gosforth and wider areas around Northumberland, South Tyneside and County Durham.
- Can facilitate activities along our coastline including such activities as paddle boarding, kayaking, and doing cold water dips.
- A knowledge of nature and wildlife and an infectious enthusiasm that can be shared with service users for getting into nature
- Adaptability for times of inclement weather to keep our service users entertained and engaged with indoor activities in our dedicated space.
- Comfortable driving a van/minibus
- Take advantage of the latest technology to support the role both internally and in reaching out to stakeholders within the community (smart device use, location sharing, using GPS, planning sessions using Microsoft Office packages and communicating comprehensively through Microsoft Outlook and Teams.
- Knowledge in engaging with health and safety procedures and policy including writing risk assessments for activities.
Desirable Criteria:
- A passion for looking after our environment, reducing carbon, and helping service users engage in “green” activities.
- Has an enthusiasm for “forest school” and survival type skills, campfires etc.
