Farm Discovery Programme Manager

Salary: £40,170 | Home-based | 35 hours per week | Permanent

This is a varied senior role combining programme leadership, team and contract management, quality assurance, safeguarding, data and financial oversight, partnership development and programme improvement.

You’ll ensure our Farm Discovery team has the clarity, support and resources they need to deliver consistently high-quality educational experiences for children from disadvantaged communities. You’ll also use data, feedback and evaluation to improve the programme, develop partnerships and contribute to its future growth and development.

About the role

This is a broad and influential senior leadership role covering finance, governance, operations, people and organisational development.

Working closely with the Executive Director, Senior Leadership Team and Board of Trustees, you will ensure the charity has the financial insight, effective systems and strong infrastructure needed to deliver its ambitions. You will also deputise for the Executive Director occasionally and provide line management for support functions.

• Knowledge of accounting software, spreadsheets and CRM systems

About this job

This part-time, fixed-term role (21 hours per week) will coordinate our Breathing Space project in Wales until March 2029. The project enables unpaid carers supporting people with MS and other neurological conditions to take short breaks.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced Project Coordinator who enjoys delivering fixed-term funded projects, working directly with the people we support and our volunteers. Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to achieve project objectives are essential.

You will work closely with unpaid carers, people affected by MS and other neurological conditions, key external partners, the Service and Support Team, the Director for Wales and teams across the MS Society. Focused on outcomes and tangible results, you will build strong stakeholder partnerships and represent the MS Society at meetings and events promoting the project to unpaid carers.

The role can be based anywhere in Wales, but regular travel across Wales is expected.

Welsh language skills are desirable

About the role

The EDIS Programme Manager will provide the stewardship and coordination needed to translate EDIS's strategic ambitions into practical, high-quality delivery.

The role will lead programme planning, reporting, risk management and delivery oversight across the EDIS portfolio. It will ensure that activity is well sequenced, clearly governed and focused on practical progress against EDIS priorities.

A central focus will be the development and stewardship of the Embedding EDI workstream. The postholder will work closely with members, partners and stakeholders to shape priorities, agree shared approaches, co-create practical tools, guidance and resources, support implementation across member and partner settings, identify learning and improvement opportunities, and help embed inclusive practice across EDIS activity.

Working with EDIS members, delivery partners, the Francis Crick Institute, Wellcome and colleagues across the British Science Association, the postholder will help to ensure that programme activity is joined up, evidence-informed and focused on meaningful, sustainable change across the science and health research sector.

This role would suit someone who combines strong programme management with collaborative leadership, systems thinking, and a clear commitment to and knowledge of equity, diversity and inclusion. The successful candidate will be confident moving between strategy and delivery, helping to shape the future direction of EDIS while ensuring that programmes, partnerships and workstreams are delivered effectively.

Key responsibilities

• Lead programme delivery across the EDIS portfolio, ensuring activities are strategically aligned, effectively planned and delivered against agreed priorities, objectives, budgets and timelines.
• Provide programme leadership, governance and oversight, maintaining programme plans, risk and issue management processes, action tracking, performance monitoring, financial reporting to support informed decision-making.
• Lead the development and stewardship of the Embedding EDI workstream, working with members and partners to develop practical tools, guidance, resources and implementation approaches that support sustainable organisational change across the sector.
• Coordinate delivery across EDIS workstreams and partnerships, ensuring member engagement, commissioned activity, evidence generation, communications and reporting are joined up and contribute to shared outcomes.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with members, funders, delivery partners, suppliers and key stakeholders, acting as a trusted point of coordination and supporting collaborative delivery across the EDIS network.
• Manage the procurement, contracting and performance of consultants, commissioned partners and suppliers, ensuring high-quality delivery, effective resource management and value for money.
• Lead approaches to monitoring programme performance, impact, learning and continuous improvement, ensuring evidence and insight are used to strengthen delivery and demonstrate progress against EDIS objectives.
• Prepare and present high-quality reports, briefings and recommendations for the Head of EDIS, BSA leadership, governance groups, funders and other stakeholders, communicating progress, risks, opportunities and key decisions clearly and effectively.
• Support funder engagement, strategic partnership development and long-term sustainability planning, helping to identify opportunities for growth, influence and future investment in EDIS.
• Champion equity, diversity and inclusion throughout programme delivery, ensuring inclusive practice, accessibility and meaningful participation are embedded across planning, implementation, governance, learning and evaluation.

About you

The successful candidate will bring the following experience, skills and approach.

Essential criteria

• Significant experience managing complex programmes, projects or portfolios with multiple workstreams.
• Experience developing and maintaining programme plans, milestones and reporting systems. This will include maintaining programme plans, governance arrangements, risk and issue management processes, delivery reporting, budget monitoring and financial reporting, ensuring accurate oversight of programme performance, expenditure, value for money and organisational accountability.
• Substantial experience applying equity, diversity and inclusion in practice at a programme or organisational level, including using inclusive design principles, accessibility considerations and relevant legal duties to shape planning, delivery, governance and learning.
• Experience of facilitating collaboration between multiple stakeholders, members or partners with different insights and perspectives.
• Experience of maintaining programme governance, including identifying and managing risks, dependencies and delivery challenges across multiple workstreams.
• Experience working with multiple partners, stakeholders or suppliers to deliver shared outcomes.
• Ability to produce clear, well-structured written outputs, such as reports, briefings, decision papers or similar materials, that support understanding, discussion and decision-making for different audiences.
• Ability to take ownership of agreed areas of programme delivery, manage priorities across workstreams and make progress with appropriate support, while keeping managers and senior colleagues informed about key risks, decisions, dependencies and delivery progress.

About You

You will be an experienced insight, evaluation or research practitioner with strong analytical skills and a practical, community-focused approach to generating, analysing and using evidence.

You will be confident working directly with Global Majority communities and colleagues across REN and HHU, developing accessible methods, tools and resources to gather and make sense of qualitative, quantitative and lived-experience evidence. You will understand the importance of building evaluation and learning into community engagement and co-design from the outset.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to help build and shape the insight, evaluation and learning approach for an ambitious five-year programme, working across communities, organisations and systems to understand what is changing, what works, for whom, how and under what circumstances.

The Outrunners are a running and movement charity based in Hackney, on a mission to empower young people through movement. Backed by an incredible crew of volunteers and partner brands like Nike and Moju, we help young people in East London to build confidence, wellbeing, health and leadership skills.

We deliver free, fun, sociable, youth‑led running and movement sessions for 8–18 year olds every week - during term time and holidays. But we’re about more than just running. We also create space for young people to explore creativity and culture, go on exciting trips, access wraparound wellbeing support, and develop the skills and opportunities they need to shape the futures they want.

Our achievements

We’re a small charity but we pack a mighty punch. Our income has grown year-on-year since we became a charity 6 years ago -  allowing us to expand our core team and move into office premises large enough to incorporate a Youth Hub. Last year we worked with over 1,150 young people through our school and communities programs, and this year we’re looking to expand our work even further!

To give you a sense of the kinds of work that we do, over the last year we have:

• Hosted a free Girls’ Festival for 100+ ethnically diverse young girls, allowing them to try running sessions, creative classes and yoga experiences in a safe and empowering environment.

• Hosted free training Academies for ethnically diverse women and young people aged 16-21 to train for their very first half or full marathons! We offered physical, emotional and logistical support throughout their training journey and cheered on every single one of them as they ran either the Hackney Half or the London Marathon under The Outrunners name. Since programme launch, we have worked with over 250 people in our Academies.

• Took diverse groups of young people to races and events, such as Hackney School Run and Black to the Trails. 

• Offered personalised mentoring to several of our young people who were struggling with school or life.

• Expanded the career horizons of young people by offering them free work experience opportunities with our partner brands.

What do we want?

We are looking for an experienced Fundraising Partnerships Manager to help drive the next stage of growth at The Outrunners (current annual income circa £350k). This growth will enable us to expand our after-school and holiday programmes reaching more young people where they are, building their confidence and skills.

Reporting to the CEO, you will lead our brand and corporate partnerships fundraising strategy and delivery, securing and growing relationships with values-aligned brands and businesses who share our belief in the power of movement to transform young lives.

This is a strategic and hands-on role. You will identify new partnership opportunities, develop compelling proposals, and build long-term relationships that generate income, opportunities and experiences for the young people we support.

You will translate the lived experiences, energy and impact of our young people and programmes into compelling partnership opportunities that generate income, engagement and meaningful experiences for both our young people and partners.

You'll be equally comfortable developing strategy, pitching to partners, nurturing relationships and rolling up your sleeves to make things happen.

Key Responsibilities

1. New partnerships & business development 

• Identify, research and secure new partnerships with values-aligned brands, businesses and organisations.

• Build relationships with decision-makers and key stakeholders across prospective partner organisations.

• Develop and deliver tailored partnership proposals, sponsorship decks and impact led presentations to attract partners.

• Lead partnership negotiations (with CEO) and onboarding, ensuring new partners have a positive experience from the outset.

2. Partnership management & activation 

• Act as the primary relationship manager for existing partners, building trusted, long-term relationships.

• Support the development of partnership content, case studies, presentations and storytelling assets that showcase the impact of The Outrunners' work.

• Identify opportunities to strengthen, renew and grow existing partnerships.

3. Partnerships strategy & growth 

• Develop and deliver The Outrunners' partnerships strategy, aligned with our mission, values and organisational goals.

• Work with the CEO to identify and prioritise partnership opportunities that support organisational growth and impact.

• Build and manage a pipeline of prospective partners, monitoring performance against agreed partnership and income targets.

About the role
