With a newly integrated Partnerships Team and an ambitious £5m appeal ahead, Acorns is now seeking a Senior Business Development Manager to drive high-value corporate new business and secure strategic partnerships that deliver long-term income growth.
Reporting to the Head of Partnerships, this is a senior corporate new business role focused on identifying, cultivating and converting strategic prospects into multi-year partners. You will own and drive a c.£1m new business pipeline, lead senior-level engagement including C-suite conversations, and secure six-figure+ partnerships aligned to Acorns’ strategic priorities.

As Senior Business Development Manager, you will:
- Identify and engage companies for multi-year strategic partnerships, Charity of the Year agreements, sponsorship and cause-related marketing
- Own and manage a robust new business pipeline of circa £1m, ensuring accurate forecasting, progression and conversion
- Secure high-value corporate partnerships, including stock generation and innovative fundraising initiatives
- Build and influence relationships at senior level, including C-suite stakeholders
- Work closely with the Partnerships and Community teams to ensure smooth transition of new partners into account management
- Line manage the Business Development Manager and drive performance against agreed targets
Essential skills and experience:
- Proven corporate fundraising or business development experience within a charity or commercial setting

- Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with experience engaging senior stakeholders and C-suite leaders
- Experience operating in a targeted, commercially focused environment
- Commercial awareness, including experience of budgets, forecasting and ROI analysis
- Experience managing contractual agreements and working within GDPR and fundraising compliance frameworks
- Experience using CRM systems to manage pipeline and reporting

You bring experience identifying and cultivating new funders, and maximising funding opportunities through proactive, relationship-led fundraising. You’re confident developing persuasive proposals and written communications, clearly and succinctly conveying complex information (experience within medical research is desirable but not essential).
Your outstanding communication skills enable you to engage confidently and credibly with senior stakeholders, building lasting relationships built on trust and professionalism.
Highly organised and collaborative, you have strong planning skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. You’re also proficient in Microsoft Office and CRM systems (such as Blackbaud CRM, Raiser’s Edge, or similar platforms).

Job Summary
The Philanthropy Manager will develop a philanthropy strategy, building on the partnerships and resources already in place. You will develop a pipeline backed up by robust prospect research (some administrative assistance will be provided), and instigate a cultivation and stewardship programme, typically adopting a staged approach to major asks.
You will be accountable for the acquisition, development, and stewardship of high value supporters for CUF, both individual philanthropists and non-statutory grant-making bodies. What we are looking for:
Job Title: Philanthropy Lead
We’re looking for a confident, experienced fundraiser to lead major-gift fundraising — securing transformational gifts from high-net-worth individuals. This individual will also assist with building wealth-adviser relationships that generate referral leads. You’ll own the full pipeline: prospecting, cultivation, making direct asks, closing and stewardship.
The ideal candidate will be excited to cultivate networks of wealth managers, private-client teams and other advisers to HNWIs, and to convert adviser introductions into committed support. Importantly, you’ll also prospect independently for major gifts outside those referral streams.
To succeed you’ll master three distinct fundraising pitches: a business case for advisers; an impact case to persuade donors to support our portfolio charities; and a systems-change case to win backing for GRP’s operating costs (salaries, office costs, etc) to keep the charity running fee-free.
You’ll be comfortable making direct asks for funding, with evidence of having closed high-value gifts or multi-year commitments. You’ll be willing to roll up your sleeves and get hands-on with everyday cultivation tasks. You’ll thrive in a small team, taking initiative and juggling priorities. Crucially, you’ll care deeply about climate and nature.
Experience required:
Substantial experience in frontline major gifts fundraising (as a guide, likely 5+ years), or an exceptional track record in adjacent fields (private client advisory, philanthropy advisory, etc).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Donor Identification, solicitation and management
- Work with the UK Country Manager to grow the donor portfolio in the UK by identifying prospects, building relationships and secure gifts from high net-worth individuals and other philanthropic donors.
- Identify and deliver unique stewardship and cultivation opportunities for donors.
- Manage a portfolio of major donors through various personalised approaches, including face-to-face meetings, phone calls, events and written and verbal communications.
- Ensure excellent and timely response to enquiries and stewardship and acknowledgement of gifts.
Events coordination
- Work with the UK Country Manager to help shape and deliver events and other engagement opportunities to generate income, cultivate and steward donors.
- Take responsibility for tailored and timely event follow-up to maximise relationships and using learnings and data from past events to develop donor engagement, referrals and gifts.
Research, communications and administration
- Research potential new donors and funding streams.
- Support the production of proposals, pitches, reports and general supporter communications.
- Use Salesforce to manage the accurate recording of interactions and progression related to all donor relationships
- Provide executive assistance to the UK Country Manager and senior stakeholders in relation to scheduling supporter meetings, drafting communications and provision of information to underpin successful supporter engagement.
- Maintain strong knowledge and understanding of HPF’s programmes.
- Carry out administrative activities and other duties, as required, to maximise fundraising.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Experience developing relationships with and securing funding from high-net-worth individuals and other philanthropic donors.
- Entrepreneurial approach to relationship management and creating new fundraising initiatives.
- Experience in coordination and delivery of bespoke, high-quality events for influential audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, and a proactive networker, able to act as a spokesperson and ambassador for HPF.
- Experience of writing inspiring, emotive, and technically fundraising communications and materials tailored to a major donor audience.
- Exceptional organisational and time management skills to prioritise and manage own workload.
- Results driven self-starter, able to operate independently and under pressure, whilst also able to engage meaningfully in a virtual team.
