Successful candidates for the National Officer will be able to demonstrate:
· Experience of team leadership, people management and development
· Understanding of the political processes in the UK and the role and work of trade unions
· Sound knowledge of employment rights and advocacy skills
· Proven track record in bargaining, organising and campaigning
· Excellent communication and presentation skills
· Knowledge and understanding of how digitalisation, IT and digital technology impacts the future of the union
The main duties of the National Officer role include:
· Contribute to the strategic development of the Union’s policy objectives including the PCS planning process
· Provide leadership in delivering the union’s bargaining, organising, campaigning, equality, learning and digital objectives and have direct involvement in more complex or strategic areas
· Manage people and resources in allocated area
· Represent PCS at external meetings
· Provide advice to and lead relevant committees including the preparation and presentation of reports
· Monitor and report on issues and initiatives as requested
· Provide input into budgetary processes including bid preparation, monitoring and control where relevant

Key responsibilities

The Policy and Public Affairs Officer will have at least two years' experience working in policy and public affairs. You will have excellent knowledge of local and national government structures, the UK and devolved parliaments within a policy context, with experience of political and media mapping, working within the Parliamentary/Whitehall landscape and experience of 1:1 briefing of MPs, civil servants and the media. You will have worked in partnership on campaigns, and you will be able to build strong relationships with colleagues, partners and suppliers. You will be able to demonstrate strong communication skills and excellent analytical and decision-making skills to translate data and evidence into actionable insights to inform decision-making. You will have strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise your workload and competing demands. You will also be skilled in using video content to communicate policy objectives and public affairs work.
This role is home-based. You will need to regular attend meetings/events in London and there will be some travel across the UK. AdviceUK have an office in London (Aldgate). There may be out of hours work for which TOIL is granted. There will be a £600 home working allowance.

Responsibilities and Person Specification:
Working alongside two other Advice and Support Managers, this role will share responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of Independent Age’s new Advice and Support Service, and lead on Evaluation and Impact. The service is delivered by telephone, email and webchat and involved a duty service, appointments and casework, targeted at older people in or facing financial hardship. We give information, advice and support to a specialist level, relating to Welfare Benefits, Social Care, Housing and other issues.
As Evaluation and Impact lead, you will be responsible for data collection and reporting, outcome and impact measurement, case studies and providing evidence to our Policy and Influencing colleagues.
You should have experience of managing a high-volume telephone-based information or advice service and strong leadership skills to create a work environment where people can thrive. You will have experience of working within an advice context (ideally AQS accredited) and knowledge of the main issues affecting older people.

Salary information:
Hybrid working in London: £43,812 per year, increasing to £45,019 after 6 months and to £46,227 after 12 months.
Homebased (with regular travel to London): £39,454 per year, increasing to £40,530 after 6 months and to £41,607 after 12 months.

The Head of Policy & Public Affairs is responsible for leading UK Youth’s influencing work with Westminster, devolved administrations, and local government. They will lead our advocacy for ambitious and actionable policies that will help unlock youth work for all young people. They will ensure that our policy recommendations are informed by the strongest available evidence, meaningful youth involvement, and the expertise of youth workers. You will be responsible for:

- Familiarity with national legislation and policies in the field of disability and education sectors in Pakistan.

- Knowledge of current issues and best practices in disability, UNCRPD, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
