We are looking for an experienced fundraiser, to lead on fundraising in the Department of Physics, as part of the friendly team working across the Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences (MPLS) Division.
The Department of Physics is one of the top five departments in the world. Our academics observe the wonders of the Universe from the very big to the very small: from seeking planets with the potential for life outside the solar system, to undertaking some of the most delicate experiments in quantum physics. Physics has applications in so many fields, including biology and nanotechnology, to find new ways to treat cancer; the development of new materials to generate green energy; and the understanding of climate science, with its impact on the Earth. The Physics Department is active in developing these applications in part through a strong innovation culture that has created nine new companies since 2018 and with six more in the pipeline for 2024. The Department has a deeply embedded ED&I culture.
About the role:
You will be raising money to support research; to enable students from around the world and from every background to come and study at Oxford; and to help promote the public understanding of Physics. You will work closely with the Head of Physics, as well as some of the most inspiring scientists in the world, and will forge relationships with existing and new donors to the department. While an interest in science is essential, you do not need to be a Physics graduate, just an enthusiast for knowledge.
About you:
You are an experienced development professional with a strong track record of securing major gifts, a confident approach and the ability to think creatively. You will lead on major gift fundraising (£100k-£1m+) working with a range of donors (corporates, trusts and individuals). The department has a well-established alumni programme and a very active and supportive development board that you will work closely with.

Job Purpose:
The Capital Fundraising Campaign Manager will use their existing experience, knowledge and contacts within the Midlands region to pave the way for Over The Wall’s successful capital campaign to open its first permanent site in Derby in 2026. Our new site will bring mischief and magic to seriously ill children and young people from across the UK, taking forward Paul Newman’s vision of a place where kids can forget hospital, ‘kick back and raise a little hell’.
During 2023 a significant body of work was undertaken to prepare for the commencement of the campaign in 2024, including soliciting a lead gift, preparing a strong case for support and preparing various projects for funding. Furthermore, we have begun cultivating relationships with prospective major donors; gaining the support of local politicians and businesses; paving the way for local community partnerships; etc, to facilitate the initial two phases of the campaign. The next steps are to set up a regional Development Board and begin to plan the approaches for major giving and alumni of the school site.
With support from the Capital Trusts Fundraising Manager (writing proposals for grant-based funding), and the Individual Giving & Philanthropy Manager, the Capital Fundraising Campaign Manager will bring together this project and manage its progress towards agreed goals and timescales. Working closely with the Director of Development, Chief Executive and Head of Marketing, the Capital Fundraising Campaign Manager will represent the project both internally and externally, taking on a truly 360-degree role.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with the Director of Development, Chief Executive and Capital Trusts Fundraising Manager to implement a comprehensive funding strategy for the redevelopment of Ockbrook School as the new permanent site of Over The Wall.
- Prospect and develop relationships with a portfolio of HNWIs in the Midlands region, with an interest in human philanthropy/ youth/ health and bring them on this journey with OTW.
- Bring together and support a new Midlands-based Development Board who will help to steer the charity’s move to this area and gain financial and corporate support from the region, as well as awareness and visibility.
- Work with the Chief Executive/ DoD/ Capital Trusts Fundraising Manager to facilitate site visits for funders and show them OTW’s vision for the project.
- To explore community engagement with the project, working with organisations such as Nottingham YMCA (via our CEO), as well as recruiting local volunteers, to identify ways in which the project could further support the local area.
- Support the Marketing and Communications team with opportunities for local PR / media work.
- Plan and deliver a calendar of cultivation and awareness-raising events at the site, for funders and the community (including working with the Director of Business Development on community consultation).
- Ensure all communication with supporters and prospective donors is recorded and logged accurately.
- Contribute positively to the Development team, working collaboratively on the development of robust cases for support, sharing information and ensuring approaches are coordinated effectively.
- Adhere to the highest standards of fundraising best practice and ensure all activities comply with the relevant data protection and other legislation.
Capital Fundraising Campaign Manager: Person Specification:
Experience:
- Fundraising or relevant project management qualification.
- Demonstrable experience in the Midlands region in a previous fundraising/ charitable project-based role.
- Demonstrable experience of successfully researching and developing new relationships with HNWIs/celebrities/ambassadors.
- A proven track record in managing significant projects with timescales and visible outcomes, working with the organisation’s Leadership.
- Demonstrable experience of cultivating and supporting productive relationships with groups (such as a new Regional Development Board).
- Experience of working with senior leaders, key stakeholders and positively representing the work of a charitable organisation.

The NSPCC’s mission is to end cruelty to children. Every childhood is worth fighting for. This is what drives their fundraising team to get out there and bring in the funds needed to protect children and prevent abuse.
Through Speak out Stay Safe, a primary school safeguarding programme, NSPCC reached 1.2m children in 2022/23 and helped many more through their other services, which include a helpline, community events and campaigning for policy and practice changes. The charity also developed new services to help families, campaigned to change laws, shared information about abuse and how to recognise it, and developed new tools for children, parents and professionals.
The Philanthropy Individuals team focus on high level, infividual donors and are responsible for securing 4- to 7-figure plus gifts. The team consists of 12 fundraisers, who collectively raise £3.5M a year. Reporting to the Head of Philanthropy, the Senior Philanthropy Manager – Northwest will potentially manage one membver of this team.
You will also be responsible for maximising the long term relationships of all new and existing individual donors capable of gifts ranging from £5k to £1M+, driving new business with the support of your line-/dotted-line support.
As Senior Philanthropy Manager – Northwest, you will:
- Identify, develop and cultivate major donors up to 7-figure level, supporting a team income target of c.£700k
- Grow your own portfolio of major donors with focus on £100k+ prospects
- Play a leading role across North West to raise the profile of engagement with major donors
- Develop and deliver strategies to improve relationships with supporters and prospects to increase income for NSPCC

We are looking for a Trusts & Philanthropy Manager for an inspiring health charity to manage your own portfolio of charitable trusts and support the developing major donor and statutory funding relationships as required.
This role can be UK home working or hybrid working in the Hampshire office.

The Role
To join a team of four, working alongside another Manager and managing a Trusts Officer.

A successful track record in trusts fundraising including securing 5 and 6 figure gift.

About Vale Wildlife Hospital
Vale Wildlife Hospital is one of the UK’s largest wildlife rehabilitation hospitals, treating over 7,500 sick, injured, and orphaned animals and birds every year, with an aim to release as many of those casualties as possible, back to the wild, where they belong.
Vale Wildlife Hospital was founded back in 1984 and this year, celebrates 40 years of ‘Helping Britain’s Wildlife’.
The hospital is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for any wildlife casualties to be brought in. Our trained staff also attend large mammal ‘call outs’ and assist emergency services with wildlife, when needed.
Our current running costs are over £60,000 every month and we receive no government funding.
Now we need to make a change to secure the future of Vale Wildlife Hospital, exploring networks and establishing a new model of philanthropic giving, building a pipeline of new supporters.

Role Purpose
This new role has been created to develop the charity’s grant income through compelling and bespoke applications to Trusts and Foundations in support of Vale Wildlife Hospital. To secure gifts and lasting relationships from individuals for our priority programmes.
Your experience of developing strong relationships with supporters, clients or customers alongside your confident, clear, and persuasive written and verbal communication skills will stand you in good stead to thrive in this new role.

Main Duties
Key Tasks
- To take responsibility for securing donations from grant making Trusts and Foundations.
- To research and apply for eligible funding opportunities, having responsibility of the process (initial application through to monitoring and reporting).
- Ensure your approach follows the charity’s internal processes and policies, and abide to all relevant legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all fundraising activity, including proposals, applications, and donor interactions, and be able to regularly report this activity back to the Management Team.
- Create compelling cases of need to help tell the ‘story’ and vision of Vale Wildlife Hospital.
- Support the development and delivery of an effective legacy-giving campaign.
General Duties
- Represent the organisational ethos and values to supporters and stakeholders.
- Attend events, networking opportunities, and other external meetings to build relationships with potential donors and raise the profile of the charity, ad hoc as time allows.

Refugee Council is seeking a Senior Philanthropy Executive to secure and steward new donors, and to grow the charity’s established Major Donor/Philanthropy programme, taking it to a new level of giving.
Refugee Council is a leading charity supporting refugees and people seeking asylum to rebuild their lives in safety here in the UK. Providing practical, hands on support, their award winning services include welcoming refugees into local communities across the country, providing specialist children’s services – with a particular focus on refugee children who arrive here alone, helping people to navigate the asylum system, and supporting people to access housing and employment. Evidence from services is then used to also inform the charity’s leading policy and influencing work, including campaigning for a fairer and kinder refugee protection system. The charity works with more than 14,000 men, women and children every year.
As a result of growing need and increasing interest in Refugee Council’s work, the charity has ambitious plans to make a leap in impact, with investment in their Philanthropy Team to raise increased funds from key high value audiences.
Working with key stakeholders from across the organisation, the post-holder will play a critical role in the delivery of an ambitious Major Donor/Philanthropy strategy and will be responsible for offering inspiring stewardship to the existing cohort of major donors, and for driving forward work to identify new prospects. Refugee Council has ambitious plans to significantly grow income from major donors, capitalising on the high profile which immigration and asylum currently have in public and political discourse.
The ideal candidate will have a track record in cultivating relationships from new and existing supporters and in securing in five figure gifts or above, as well as in meeting challenging income targets. They will have excellent knowledge of the methodology of major gift fundraising strategies and a proven ability to create bespoke, compelling cases for support and reports at a variety of levels and for different audiences. Excellent verbal and communication skills will be combined with superb relationships building and networking abilities. Finally they will be self-motivating, with the ability to think creatively and translate that into creative concepts and compelling copy.
Refugee Council will provide the most moving and diverse case for support. Cases that encompass innovative external affairs campaigns aimed at engaging policy makers and the public.
Refugee Council knows that step change takes time and planning, and they have put together a plan for growth that is ambitious but is also realistic and allows time for development and engagement. This plan also includes recruiting prospecting, stewardship, and communications expertise, so that growth is supported, planned and achievable.
