Join our Research & Outcomes team at the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and help shape the future of speech and language therapy. You’ll plan, deliver and evaluate projects that strengthen research capacity, capability and culture across the profession, champion evidence-based practice, and support members in making the most of outcomes, health informatics and data.
Who we are
The RCSLT is the professional body for speech and language therapists across the UK. The RCSLT has over 24,000 members and employs around 65 staff predominately based in a London office. The RCSLT also has offices in Belfast, Edinburgh, and Cardiff.
Our mission is to improve the lives of people with communication and swallowing needs by facilitating and promoting research, producing guidance, holding events, and influencing government. We aim to promote better education and training for speech and language therapists and provide information to our members and the public about speech and language therapy.
The role
As a Research & Outcomes Officer, you’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering the RCSLT’s research and outcomes work, helping to strengthen research culture, champion evidence-based practice and support the profession to make better use of evidence and data.
You’ll take operational responsibility for a varied portfolio of projects and initiatives, from research priority setting and engagement, to collecting and analysing data, supporting evidence synthesis and monitoring impact. You’ll also help bring this work to life through engaging communications across RCSLT research channels, as well as presentations, webinars, conferences and events.
Working closely with RCSLT members, colleagues and external stakeholders, you’ll provide expert, evidence-based advice on research, outcomes, clinical and professional issues, while responding to enquiries and supporting teams across the organisation to identify, understand and apply research evidence.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys combining research, project delivery, data, communication and stakeholder engagement, and who wants to make a tangible difference to the future of speech and language therapy.
What we are looking for
We’re looking for a qualified Speech and Language Therapist and current RCSLT member with strong clinical and professional knowledge and a passion for research and evidence-based practice. You’ll have experience of literature searching, critical appraisal and evidence synthesis, alongside knowledge of research, evaluation, outcome measures and data analysis.
You’ll be confident turning complex evidence and data into clear, accessible insights and communicating these effectively to a range of audiences.
You’ll be highly organised, analytical and adaptable, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities. A collaborative approach is essential, as you’ll work with members, colleagues and external stakeholders to provide expert guidance and support. Above all, you’ll be committed to using research and evidence to improve practice and outcomes, championing equality, diversity and inclusion, and contributing positively to the RCSLT’s aims and values.

Closing date: 9.00am on Monday, 19 October 2026.
Interview date: w/c Monday 2 November 2026 (held virtually).
There may be a task that will be needed to be completed as part of the interview process.
We are committed to a fair, transparent, and inclusive recruitment process. All applications are handled with strict confidentiality to protect your privacy and encourage openness throughout the process.
The RCSLT is committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace where everyone feels valued and a sense of belonging. We aim to embed equity, diversity, and belonging practices throughout our recruitment and selection procedures. We strive to ensure everyone is valued equally for their contribution, experience, knowledge, and skills. We welcome applications from candidates of all different backgrounds.
About You
You will be an experienced insight, evaluation or research practitioner with strong analytical skills and a practical, community-focused approach to generating, analysing and using evidence.
You will be confident working directly with Global Majority communities and colleagues across REN and HHU, developing accessible methods, tools and resources to gather and make sense of qualitative, quantitative and lived-experience evidence. You will understand the importance of building evaluation and learning into community engagement and co-design from the outset.
You will bring professional curiosity, methodological integrity and sound judgement, able to identify patterns, question assumptions and communicate clearly what the evidence does and does not tell us, where evidence is limited and where further investigation is needed.
You will work closely with the Anti-Racism Strategic Lead and Bhip Programme Lead, providing robust analytical and evidence support while retaining professional objectivity and methodological responsibility for the underlying evidence. You will be confident reporting findings accurately, including where evidence is limited, contradictory or uncomfortable for REN, HHU or system partners, and will work collaboratively across the wider Bhip team to ensure evidence and learning are useful, accessible and acted upon.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to help build and shape the insight, evaluation and learning approach for an ambitious five-year programme, working across communities, organisations and systems to understand what is changing, what works, for whom, how and under what circumstances.
Bhip has a working Theory of Change and an emerging evaluation framework, logic model, and Global outcomes and data system, which will continue to evolve through learning. You will help operationalise these across the programme, developing and refining the practical methodologies, tools, measures and resources needed to generate and capture community insight, lived experience, programme activity and quantitative data consistently, ethically and meaningfully.
Working alongside the Anti-Racism Strategic Lead and with the Co-design Lead, Community Engagement team and Global Majority communities, you will develop and test culturally grounded, accessible and innovative ways of gathering evidence and understanding change. You will explore creative and participatory approaches that work for different communities, while ensuring the evidence remains robust and useful for analysis and Bhip’s wider evaluation requirements.
As Bhip develops, you will bring different forms of evidence together to identify patterns, test assumptions and evaluate emerging approaches and system-practice tests against Bhip’s Theory of Change, logic model and programme and organisational outcomes. You will provide analytical and evidence support to the Anti-Racism Strategic Lead, while working across the wider REN and HHU Bhip team to ensure evidence informs learning, accountability, programme development and system change.
You will help turn what we learn into accessible evidence, resources and learning for communities, Bhip colleagues, partners and decision-makers, ensuring communities can see how their insight was used, what action followed, what changed, what did not change and why and contributing to learning across Bradford and the National Collective.

Julie’s Bicycle is seeking a visionary, collaborative and values-led Chief Executive to lead the organisation into its next chapter.
About Julie’s Bicycle
Julie’s Bicycle is a pioneering not-for-profit organisation mobilising the arts and culture sectors to take action on the climate crisis. For nearly two decades, we have been at the forefront of the creative climate movement, working to put culture and creativity at the heart of climate action. We believe culture has the power to challenge, inspire and move people; to shape how we think, feel and act; and to help transform our future now.
Our work brings together cultural and environmental expertise to support practical action, build leadership, inform policy and strengthen collective impact. Through our programmes, tools, training, consultancy, campaigns and partnerships, we support artists, creative organisations, policymakers and changemakers to respond to the climate, nature and justice crises with confidence, imagination and purpose. To date, Julie’s Bicycle has worked with thousands of organisations and individuals, in the UK and globally, helping to equip people, places and policies with the knowledge and power to drive sustainable change.
Why this opportunity has arisen
This is a defining moment for Julie’s Bicycle. After 19 years of inspirational founding leadership, our Founder and Chief Executive, Alison Tickell, is stepping down from the role. As we approach our 20th anniversary, Julie’s Bicycle is renewing its strategy and theory of change. The climate, nature and justice crises continue to evolve, and so too must the leadership, partnerships and solutions needed to create meaningful change. This creates a significant opportunity for a new Chief Executive to honour a powerful legacy while shaping a bold, clear and ambitious next chapter for the organisation.
What we are looking for
We are looking for an exceptional Chief Executive who can provide strategic and organisational leadership, strengthen Julie’s Bicycle’s voice and influence, and ensure the organisation continues to deliver impact at the intersection of culture and climate. The successful candidate will work closely with an experienced Board and dedicated staff team to refine and deliver our next phase of strategy, sharpen our priorities, build sustainable income and communicate our distinctive value with clarity and conviction.
This is both an outward-facing and deeply organisational role. Externally, our next Chief Executive will be a visible and credible advocate across culture, climate and environmental networks, able to build partnerships, engage funders and policymakers, convene people around shared purpose, and speak persuasively about the role of arts and culture in responding to the climate crisis. Internally, they will inspire, empower and support a talented and values-led team, strengthening leadership capability, systems, decision-making and accountability while protecting the inclusive, creative and collaborative culture that makes Julie’s Bicycle special.
We are keen to hear from experienced senior leaders with a track record of organisational and people leadership, strategic development, partnership building and income generation. We expect our CEO to demonstrate a strong understanding of the relationship between culture, climate and wider social and environmental change, and to bring a deep knowledge and experience of the UK cultural landscape and key institutions and stakeholders, and/or a deep knowledge and experience of national and international climate policy and advocacy environments. However, we are also keen to hear from you if you are passionate about the intersection of culture and climate/environmental issues, but would benefit from a period of phased support to fully immerse yourself in the breadth of issues, sectors and contexts in which JB operates.
This is an opportunity to lead a pioneering organisation with purpose and ambition: protecting what makes Julie’s Bicycle distinctive, strengthening the foundations that will help it thrive, and turning the power of culture into meaningful and lasting climate action.

About you
You will be an experienced, community-focused practitioner with a strong background in co-design, participation, community research or related approaches, and experience of working directly with Global Majority communities and people from different faiths, cultures and backgrounds.
You will be a skilled facilitator and listener, able to build trust, work sensitively with lived experience and use creative, culturally grounded approaches to involve people meaningfully.
You will be curious, practical and adaptable, confident working collaboratively while also taking the lead on developing and delivering Bhip’s co-design approach.
The Opportunity
This is an exciting and unique opportunity to help shape and lead an ambitious approach to community co-design within HHU and the Bhip Programme, working alongside Global Majority communities experiencing some of Bradford’s greatest health inequities.
You will work directly with people and communities to explore their experiences of clinical and community-based health and care, including where racism, discrimination and structural barriers affect access, experience and outcomes. Using co-design, participatory research, deep listening, storytelling and creative approaches, you will explore what matters, what gets in the way and what communities tell us needs to change.
A key part of the role will be developing culturally grounded and accessible ways of working, recognising that conventional consultation and research methods do not work equally well for everyone. You will have the freedom to test and develop different approaches with communities, including creative, visual, narrative and participatory methods, and share what we learn locally and through Bhip’s wider national lottery collective network.
You will lead the development of Bhip’s co-design methodology while remaining a hands-on practitioner. Working closely with the HHU Programme Manager, Bhip Programme Lead, Insight & Evaluation Lead and Community Engagement Facilitators, you will help connect community participation, research and lived experience to Bhip’s Story-to-System approach, ensuring that what communities tell us can contribute to practical learning, action and change.
You will also help build the confidence and capacity of the wider Bhip team to work in genuinely co-designed ways and, where people want to become more involved, support community members and lived-experience leaders to develop as co-designers, peer/community researchers or Story Stewards.
The role will evolve as Bhip develops. We do not expect every method or area of work to be predetermined. We are looking for someone with the experience, curiosity and judgement to work alongside communities, test ideas, learn from what works and help us develop approaches that are meaningful in Bradford and potentially useful much more widely.

We are in Year 1 of a two-year national programme. Our two largest contracts are with the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) and NHS England, and we expect to add further contracts and grants as the charity grows. We are a small team where every role matters, and good financial management directly enables our mission.

It is a hands-on role with real ownership of the numbers, the contracts and the controls. Two days a week is enough to do it well, and we are flexible about how those days are worked.

Bookkeeping assurance and controls
• Work with the Bookkeeper so every transaction is recorded and coded to the right fund, project or funder
• Monitor and report on restricted funds

Procurement and compliance
• Support procurement in line with our policies, including quotations and documentation
