Our History 

In December 1979, we were founded as The Colchester Gay Switchboard. Over the past 45 years we have continued to evolve to meet the needs of the local LGBTQ+ community. Today, The OutHouse is built upon the legacy of the hard work and dedication of the hundreds of local LGBTQ+ community members who came before us. This legacy drives us forward.

Our Future

The OutHouse is undergoing a period of change as we look towards positioning ourselves for service expansion and regional growth. In 2024, we appointed a new CEO, who is leading our organisation through a development phase as we revise our organisational strategy and refine our vision.

The Finance & HR Lead

We are looking for a Finance & HR Lead to take charge of the financial health of our charity by administering a high quality and effective financial management service to The OutHouse. The OutHouse is going through a period of change and we need a finance practitioner who is able to support the organisation in its financial management. You will also have oversight of our HR function. This is a busy role within a small team that is looking to make a huge difference within our community. If you have a proven track record in financial planning and HR management, can manage multiple priorities and work within time sensitive situations, we encourage you to apply.

You will work closely with, the CEO, Operations Change Manager, the Team and the Treasurer to ensure that all data are recorded accordingly and in a timely manner.

Key Activities & Responsibilities

As Finance & HR Lead, your key activities and responsibilities will be to:

Finance Responsibilities

• Provide a high quality and effective financial management service to The OutHouse.
• Prepare, develop and analyse finance and accounting information, including income and expenditure processing, ensuring information is timely precise, clear, informative and understood
• Keep good quality accounting records for our charity by preparing annual accounts and maintaining up to date records on our accountancy and book-keeping systems (making any recommendations for improvement as necessary)
• Work with the CEO and Operations Change Manager to ensure efficient financial management and planning systems, ensure financial reports effectively inform business development and fundraising strategies and that the organisation demonstrates value for money across all activities and services
• Prepare information for our Funders on funded projects expenditure and work with the SLT to present this in a meaningful way
• Attend Trustee meetings as required to provide information and analysis ensuring partnership with CEO and board Treasurer to allow for easier financial decisions
• Ensure financial information supplied to management and the board is full and accurate so as to support sound decision making
• Ensure compliance and proactively highlight potential risk with relevant financial statutory and regulatory matters
• Identify and manage risks and contribute to the risk register on financial matters and wider decision making when appropriate
• Keep up to date with financial developments across the sector and changes in requirements for charity reporting and legislation
• Make sure financial reporting complies with relevant legal requirements
• Maintain and monitor internal policy documents and procedures and make recommendations on best practice and good governance
• Liaise with and maintain a good working relationship with our CEO, colleagues and trustees, Treasurer as well as stakeholders and key operational contacts such as bankers, auditors and funders

Experience

• Managing charity finances to a high professional standard

The SEA LIFE TRUST is an international marine conservation charity dedicated to protecting the world’s oceans and marine life. About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to lead IRMO’s Education, Training and Employment (ETE) programme. You’ll manage a dedicated team and oversee a range of initiatives that support our community’s social, cultural and economic integration in the UK.

The ETE programme offers tailored English classes, one-to-one coaching, employability workshops, vocational training and mentoring. It also includes oversight of IRMO’s volunteer scheme, which is an integral part of service delivery and offers meaningful roles for volunteers across the programme. We are looking for a dynamic leader with proven fundraising experience to become our new Head of Fundraising, helping When You Wish Upon a Star to make magical memories for sick children. We have recently moved into a modern new office, have appointed a new CEO and are celebrating 35 years of Wish granting across the UK. So, it is an exciting time to join our dedicated team, some of whom work remotely or from our Scotland office.

Your key focus is to grow our income generation, allowing us to grant even more Wishes to children living with life threatening illness. The Head of Fundraising and their team play a huge part in helping us achieve this vision and, occasionally, have some direct engagement with delivering Wishes.

Reporting to the CEO, the Head of Fundraising will be responsible for developing, directing and delivering the fundraising strategy.  You will be an inspirational leader; motivating the team to promote the Charity and successfully engage external stake holders, including both new and existing supporters, and develop long-term relationships through excellent stewardship.

The successful candidate will be able to manage legacy, grants & trusts, events, corporate and community fundraising. Ensuring that income targets are achieved, along with securing high value donors to support major events and campaigns. Using ThankQ CRM, you will be required to monitor fundraising performance and budget, produce reports, and presenting to the CEO and Trustees.

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative individual to establish and lead a community engagement and volunteer programme in an important new visitor attraction in the heart of London. Bevis Marks Synagogue dates back to 1701 and is the oldest synagogue in the UK. You will recruit, motivate and support a team of volunteers and develop a dynamic community engagement programme as part of a small, dedicated team at this special, historic site.

In 2019, Bevis Marks Synagogue received a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant to restore the synagogue and create The Dangoor Heritage Centre. This project displays and interprets the synagogue’s historic collection for the first time, and enhances visitor facilities. The S&P Sephardi Community established the Bevis Marks Synagogue Heritage Foundation (BMSHF) to manage this project and the site's ongoing visitor operations. We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic heritage engagement professional to help make Bevis Marks Synagogue a vibrant place of worship that shares its unique story with a wider community of people of all faiths and none.

Bevis Marks Synagogue, completed in 1701, is the oldest synagogue in the UK and the oldest in continuous use in Europe. Its Grade I listed Wren-style design, well-preserved interior and fittings make it exceptionally historically significant. It is still a working synagogue with a community that has been engaged in the development of the new Dangoor Heritage Centre.

The S&P Sephardi Community’s collection of objects, rich archive, and intangible heritage, such as music and traditions, offer a continuous record of Jewish life in Britain since the mid-seventeenth century. The collection is mainly silver and textiles and many items are of national significance, providing rare insights into the practice of Sephardi Jewish worship, and London’s changing fashions and craftsmanship.

Visitors will be welcomed by volunteers and will explore the synagogue and Dangoor Heritage Centre with the help of an audio guide which includes insightful contributions from a number of members of the Bevis Marks community who have participated in the project. Volunteers will also engage visitors throughout the exhibition areas and support our events programme, shop and catering offer and provide a friendly welcoming experience for a wide range of visitors, from within the UK and abroad.

The construction project is set to be completed by early summer 2025, with the exhibition fit-out over the summer and opening is anticipated in autumn 2025.

Hours: 37 hours a week. Two Sundays per month will be required, along with evening and Bank Holiday working as required by the needs of the business.

About the role:

We work within a coordinated partnership response to violence against women and girls as part of the Angelou Partnership. Within the partnership ADVANCE provides independent domestic abuse advocacy and support for women, children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse.

The IDVA will work within a dynamic, fast paced, crisis intervention, advocacy, and support service to ensure the voice of survivors informs every stage of the process specialising in working with clients at high risk. They will work within the team to make proactive contact and provide high quality advocacy and support based upon a client led needs and risk assessment to women from aged 13, focusing on working with those aged 18 and over who access the domestic abuse service. They will advise women on criminal justice and civil remedies and related matters, support women to attend court where necessary, and coordinate the provision of multi-agency support. Part of the role will to be to establish positive, proactive, and innovative working relationships with services providing services to clients and partner agencies within the Angelou Partnership. As a Core IDVA will work across the boroughs mentioned above, under the guidance of the team leaders and project manager.

To be successful as the Core IDVA you will need the below experience and skills:

To be successful as a Core IDVA, you’ll need to have an excellent understanding of domestic abuse and its effects on women and children and of best practice within the domestic abuse sector. As an experienced domestic abuse advocate who has worked with complex and multiple needs, you will be skilled in risk management and safety planning, remaining calm in a crisis and in handling sensitive information on a daily basis. Experience of direct work with female survivors of domestic abuse, of supporting women involved in mental health services, and of working within safeguarding procedures is essential for this post, as is the need to adopt and promote a strong partnership approach to service provision.

About the role

We’re looking for a skilled Infrastructure Engineer to help drive our move to a cloud-first environment. In this role, you’ll support and deliver projects that bring Microsoft cloud technologies like Intune, Entra ID, and Azure AD into everyday use.

You’ll also collaborate with teams across the organisation to share best practices, improve tooling, and help build capability in modern management approaches.

You’ll provide technical expertise to build, deliver and improve solutions required to enhance business function, information security and infrastructure through small tasks and large projects alike. Driving efficiencies by assisting in design and lifecycle management of the infrastructure across the organisation encompassing physical, virtual and cloud platforms and associated stack technologies.

About you

​ You’ll have strong technical knowledge and practical experience of: 

• Significant experience implementing and supporting Microsoft-based infrastructure solutions, including Windows server operating systems, group policies, Intune, Entra ID, and SCCM. 
• Proven experience delivering endpoint modern management projects, particularly transitioning from on-premises SCCM and AD to Intune and Entra ID.
• Strong technical knowledge of Microsoft cloud and on-prem services, including conditional access policies, Windows Hello, and Entra application proxies.
• Proficiency in automation and scripting tools, such as PowerShell, to streamline operations and deployments.
• Practical experience in securing and hardening infrastructure platforms, ensuring compliance and resilience.

The Role
As CEO, you will work in partnership with the Board to finalise and own our new five-year business plan, ensuring its successful delivery. You’ll combine strategic vision with hands-on leadership. overseeing service delivery, fundraising, financial stewardship and regulatory compliance, while modelling our core values of transparency, fairness, energy, inclusivity and compassion.

Person Specification

Essential

• Graduate or equivalent vocational qualification.
