About School of Hard Knocks
School of Hard Knocks (SOHK) is one of the UK’s leading education charities, working in 29 secondary schools across England, Scotland, and Wales. Using rugby as a key delivery tool, we support young people who are struggling to engage in early secondary education - often because of anxiety, low confidence, disrupted home lives, or behavioural challenges rooted in trauma. For many of the children we support, life has already brought more hardship than most adults experience in a lifetime. Our purpose is clear: to help young people facing complex challenges break the cycle and move towards a safer, stronger, more hopeful future.
The SOHK Schools Programme is a two-year intervention working with cohorts of around 20 pupils from Year 7 through to Year 9. Pupils are selected by the school and are typically among the hardest to reach young people. Each week, we deliver half a day of rugby training and classroom sessions built around our 3Cs framework, covering topics such as growth mindset, goal setting, and decision-making, alongside monthly one-to-one sessions with every pupil. The programme’s impact is evaluated by SOHK staff, teachers, parents, and the pupils themselves.
90% of our participants report feeling more confident and more engaged with school after taking part, with long-term effects on attendance, attainment, and life outcomes. Find out more about our Schools Programme.
Since 2023, SOHK has been proud to partner with Impetus, a charity that invests in and supports organisations helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds succeed. This partnership combines investment with strategic and organisational development support, helping to strengthen our impact and set SOHK up for sustainable growth.
We are proud to be delivering long-term programmes that meaningfully reach hundreds of young people each year - but the societal need is vast. Our ambitious four-year strategic plan targets growth, aiming to bring our impactful programme to hundreds more young people each year.
“Despite the usual challenges that every education or sport for development charity faces, School of Hard Knocks really is unique. It is not so much what we deliver at a programme level (which is of course brilliant) but who we are as a team. If you are a values-led leader and love the idea of ‘team’, then School of Hard Knocks is the place for you.”

About Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance
Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) exists so nobody in Scotland suffers or dies because medical help cannot get there in time. People can get sick or have accidents anywhere and anytime. But in Scotland there are places where urgent medical help cannot reach people. Or help gets there too late. And when lives are at risk every minute matters. As a charity we rely on donations from the Scottish public, companies and communities to ensure that urgent medical help gets to the patient when it is needed, wherever they are and at whatever time of day.
The Role
We are seeking a confident media and communications professional to join our Marketing and Communications team and lead PR and media activity across SCAA. Reporting to the Marketing and Communications Manager, the successful candidate will secure impactful media coverage, manage press enquiries, build relationships with journalists and stakeholders, support and brief spokespeople, and develop compelling stories that showcase the charity's impact. Working collaboratively across the organisation, they will play a key role in delivering our communications strategy and increasing awareness, engagement and support for SCAA’s mission.
This role will be based in Perth, at Scone Airport. SCAA supports flexible and hybrid working arrangements—our current approach typically includes two office days per week for those working on a hybrid basis. The usual hours of work will be Monday—Friday, 9am—5pm but it should be noted that this role will require the successful candidate to occasionally work at weekends and during the evenings. This role will also require the successful candidate to travel regularly to operational locations and media opportunities within Scotland, sometimes at short notice, and to undertake media on-call duties as part of a rotational rota.

We are looking for a proactive and solutions-focused Senior Database Officer to help colleagues get the best from our fundraising CRM, strengthen data quality and support our ongoing transition to Raiser’s Edge NXT.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative Data and Fundraising Operations team at a time of significant growth. You will combine technical database work with stakeholder support, training and process improvement, helping colleagues use our systems confidently and effectively.
You do not need to know every system we use from day one. If you have strong data manipulation skills, enjoy solving complex problems and can quickly develop expertise in new technology, we would love to hear from you.
What makes this opportunity different
This role offers more than traditional database administration.
Our Data and Fundraising Operations team acts as the technical lead for many of the Charity’s systems and technical projects. Alongside developing your knowledge of Raiser’s Edge NXT, you’ll have opportunities to broaden your experience across Excel, Access, SharePoint, APIs, data integrations, reporting, automation and system implementation.
You’ll be joining a collaborative and supportive team where you can deepen your CRM expertise while developing a broader understanding of data, systems and digital processes within fundraising.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll help colleagues across the Charity get the best from our fundraising CRM and data by:

- Supporting fundraising teams as they move from Raiser’s Edge 7 to NXT
- Delivering clear training, guidance and practical support to CRM users
- Managing data imports, cleansing, audits and database administration
- Monitoring data quality and improving how supporter information is recorded
- Working with stakeholders to understand their needs and improve systems and processes
About you
You may already be working as a Database Officer, CRM Officer or charity data specialist and be ready to take the next step in your career.
You’re curious, proactive and solutions-focused. You enjoy investigating data and system issues, working with complex datasets and finding practical ways to improve processes. Just as importantly, you enjoy working with people and can explain technical information clearly to colleagues with different levels of confidence and experience.
You’ll bring:
- Proven ability to learn new systems quickly and develop advanced knowledge
- Strong data manipulation skills using Excel, Access or comparable tools
- Highly developed problem-solving skills
- The ability to investigate data or system issues methodically
- Experience managing several stakeholders and competing requirements
- The ability to draw out requirements and translate them into practical improvements
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical information clearly
- A proactive approach and a high level of initiative
It would be helpful, but not essential, if you have
- Experience of working within a charity
- Advanced knowledge of Raiser’s Edge 7 or Raiser’s Edge NXT
- Experience using ImportOmatic or a similar data import tool
- Experience designing and delivering systems training
- Experience creating user guidance or process documentation
- Experience supporting CRM adoption or system change
Benefits:
- Hybrid working, with approximately 40% of your time in the office and 60% working from home each month
- 27 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, rising to 29 days after five years
- A contributory pension scheme with employer contributions of up to 6%
- Life insurance for eligible pension scheme members
- Enhanced maternity and adoption leave and pay
- Employee assistance and confidential counselling services
- Flexible working options
- Subsidised on-site canteens
- A bright, modern Chelsea office close to South Kensington station
- The technology and equipment needed to work effectively from home

WHO WE ARE
We are Zarach, the children’s bed charity, and we’re on a mission to end child bed poverty, helping children get a good night's sleep, and the chance to thrive at school.
In our eight years as a registered charity, we’ve captured the hearts and attention of many individuals, community groups, businesses and funders who want to support us on our mission. We’ve also been given an incredible media platform from which we have raised awareness of child bed poverty at local, regional and national levels. This support and awareness has seen us deliver over 18,000 bed bundles to children to date!
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Zarach is well established in West Yorkshire and Doncaster. We are now continuing to grow across the Yorkshire region, with a launch in Hull, Bridlington and Goole in October. We are looking to recruit a Family Engagement Officer to join our dedicated Yorkshire team. This is a unique opportunity to play a key part in the growth and development of our vital service as we expand into the East Riding.
As our ideal candidate you will be happy to travel in and around Hull and the East Riding. You will be able to travel regularly to meet with the team and conduct home visits across the region. You will also need to be able to attend our Leeds Warehouse, or other areas in Yorkshire when required. You will be confident to work autonomously in your area while being supported remotely by a wider regional team.
You will be someone who has good experience of the broad range of day-to-day case management, working with external partners, volunteer support, and administrative activities that working in a dynamic charity brings, and someone who enjoys the busyness and variety of this. While not essential, as training will be provided, experience working alongside schools will help you hit the ground running as you build relationships and support local families.
Alongside your family support and engagement-related skills and experience, we’ll be looking to see that you have a genuine care for our mission and, as such, are self-motivated to do a great job and be a values-led member of our team.
Ideally, you’ll have experience of working with vulnerable families and managing volunteers in the charity sector, due to some of the specialties that come with this, such as safeguarding and partnership working. But charity experience is not essential if you can demonstrate an appetite and track record for continual learning and development across your working life to date.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Starting at £26,000 with progression up to £30,000 p/a
- Full time hours (35 hours per week)
- 28 days annual leave (plus bank holidays)
- Healthcare Cash Plan
- Quarterly Staff Recognition Award
- A great working environment! One of our colleagues described us as- “Zarach is a wonderful place to work with the mission at the core of all that we do”
To decide if you’d like to bring your skills and experience to bear in the pursuit of our mission, please have a look at the job description, our website and the coverage of us across social media.
Please note that we may close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applications. Therefore, we encourage you to submit your CV and cover letter as soon as possible.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
