As part of our governance and succession planning, we are seeking to appoint a new Chair of Trustees, following the completion of the current Chair’s maximum term. We are looking for a Chair with the leadership, governance, and relational capacity to guide the Board effectively in this next season.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the Board effectively - chair Board meetings with clarity, fairness, and impartiality; work with the executive leadership team to shape agendas; foster a culture of trust, accountability, and constructive challenge; and ensure the Board focuses on its fiduciary, strategic, and generative responsibilities (including finance, risk, safeguarding, and trustee development).
- Support and line-manage the CEO - act as the primary point of accountability for the CEO on behalf of the Board; provide encouragement, guidance, and appropriate challenge between meetings; and lead the CEO’s annual appraisal and oversee performance review arrangements.
- Chair Council meetings - chair the twice-yearly Council meetings, including the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
- Represent the charity - act as an ambassador and spokesperson for Global Connections within the network and externally where appropriate.
- Contribute to governance and reporting - provide content for the Annual Trustees’ Report, with support from the Executive Leadership.

About the role
Our trustees play a vital role ensuring that The London Foundation for Banking & Finance (LFBF) achieves its charitable purpose. They oversee the overall strategic management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that LFBF has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable LFBF to grow and thrive, and through this, achieve our mission.
Board members have a collective responsibility. This means that trustees always act as a group and not as individuals.
Role responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the trustee are as follows:
- Support and provide advice on LFBF’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
- Approve strategic objectives and policies and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
- Oversee LFBF’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
- Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
- Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
- Review and approve LFBF’s financial statements.
- Provide support and challenge to LFBF’s CEO in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.
- Keep abreast of changes in LFBF’s operating environment.
- Contribute to regular reviews of LFBF’s own governance.
- Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.
- Attend LFBF events as appropriate.
- Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect LFBF’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third party interests.
- Contribute to the broader promotion of LFBFs objects, aims and reputation by applying their skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.
As a small charity, there will be times when the trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

Action for Stammering Children (ASC) is looking to recruit two enthusiastic and suitably qualified people to join our Trustee Board – ideally one with a background in academic work in a field related to speech and language difficulties, and the other with experience in the policy world and/ or corporate sector. You might have a personal connection to stammering but this is not required. Your interest, enthusiasm and experience are the most important.
What is Action for Stammering Children?
Action for Stammering Children is the UK charity for children and young people who stammer, their families, and the communities who support them. We are a small charity, founded in 1989, but one that has big ambitions and punches considerably above its weight.
We’re here to make sure that every child who stammers has the support, respect and confidence to live the life they want to lead.
We support and empower parents, caregivers and professionals; facilitate and champion research; and campaign for changes in policy and societal attitudes
What do we do?
1. Provide information, community and support
We provide resources, advice and guidance for children and young people who stammer, their families, and the professionals who support them.
2. Work to change policies and attitudes
We make sure the voices of children and young people who stammer are heard. We work with politicians and other decision makers to ensure the unique needs of children who stammer are reflected in public policy. But we know we can’t stop there. That’s why we campaign to challenge prejudices and misconceptions, seeking to change how society treats stammering and promote acceptance.
3. Champion research
We support and promote research into childhood stammering in order to build understanding and feed into our advocacy work, informing positive changes in policy and practice.
Our team
ASC currently has a staff team of four, headed up by CEO Dr Ria Bernard since 2022, and in addition we have a part-time book-keeper and often a couple of interns in the summer.
Our Board of Trustees has been chaired by Dame Jane Roberts since 2021 with Juliet Leach recently appointed as Vice-Chair. We are a professional and friendly bunch who would extend a warm welcome to new trustees. Our board includes two younger trustees who had previously been members of ASC’s Youth Panel. The Youth Panel is made up of young people who themselves stammer and who inform our strategic direction as well as engage in projects of their own. Our Annual Report for 2024-25 is available on the Charity Commission website, in addition to Trustees’ Reports for previous years.

St Basils is looking for a new Non-Exec Director / Trustee to join our Board as the Designated Safeguarding Board Member.
About Us
St Basils works with young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, to enable them to find and keep a home, grow their confidence, develop their skills, increase opportunities and ultimately prevent homelessness.
We help just over 4,000 young people each year across the West Midlands, with services in Birmingham, Coventry, Sandwell, Solihull, Warwickshire and Worcestershire. Our services range from providing supported accommodation to outreach, advice, support, employability and engagement services to help young people regain the stability they need to rebuild their lives, gain skills, confidence and employment and move on. The aim is to help them successfully break the ‘cycle of homelessness’ so that they can go on to experience a bright, fulfilling future and never return to a state where they are at risk of homelessness again.
About our Board
We are a registered provider of social housing, a charity and a company limited by guarantee, meaning our Board members are both Directors and Trustees.
To navigate our challenging regulatory landscape, we need to be tightly governed. At the heart of this is a Board with the right knowledge, values, skills and diversity, all whilst working towards our vision that homelessness should not be part of growing up.
As a member of St Basils’ Board, you will be a guardian of St Basils’ charitable purpose. You will be responsible for holding the Senior Leadership Team to account through constructive challenge and support, and for ensuring St Basils’ strategic priorities are met.
You will form part of St Basils’ governance framework, providing oversight of key business areas, such as business planning, safeguarding, risk, finance, health and safety, EDI and business development.
Our Board is made up of 14 members, 2 of which are designated for young people who have lived experience of homelessness and / or St Basils’ services.
St Basils has adopted the RACE Equality Code and is actively seeking applications for Board members from Black communities to ensure our Board is reflective of both the young people that we serve and our dedicated workforce.
About the Role
We are looking for a voluntary Director / Trustee with a professional background in safeguarding to join our Board as the Designated Safeguarding Board Member. Our new Board member will need to have a strong understanding of safeguarding, ideally with experience in supporting vulnerable young people.
As the Designated Safeguarding Board Member, you will:
- Work with St Basils’ Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to regularly review safeguarding reports, trends and serious incidents
- Act as a safeguarding champion at Board level, supporting other Directors / Trustees to develop their understanding and confidence in safeguarding
- Provide oversight of allegations or safeguarding concerns relating to staff, volunteers or Board Members
- Attend regular meetings and engage with services, staff and young people to maintain visibility of safeguarding in practice
- Support the Chair, CEO and DSL in ensuring appropriate governance oversight of serious safeguarding incidents, including reputational considerations
- Ensure the Board receives appropriate assurance on safeguarding risks and how they are managed
Our new Director / Trustee will sit on our Service Delivery & Development Committee which oversees both the housing elements of our services as well as the support / progression we provide to our young people. This committee meets virtually, one a quarter.
Although the role is voluntary, reasonable expenses will be paid for costs incurred in undertaking the role.
About You
You will be a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or have significant experience in a senior safeguarding role.
You will demonstrate sound judgement and be able to challenge confidently and constructively, although you do not need to have Board experience.
You will work within the principles of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and understand the needs of the diverse young people we serve.
You will put the needs of young people first, be passionate about ending youth homelessness and share our mission, vision and principles.
Time Commitment
You will need to be able to attend the majority of Board and Committee meetings, one of each is held each quarter (8 meetings total per year). Each meeting will last around 2 hours and will normally be held late afternoon/early evening (usually 4pm – 6pm). Board meetings are held in person at St Basils’ Head Office in Birmingham, and Committee meetings are held virtually via Microsoft Teams. The dates for meetings are set by calendar year, towards the end of the previous year.
Meeting papers will be shared via an online portal one week in advance of the meeting to allow for sufficient preparation time.
A Board away day is held each year, usually October, and every other year this includes an overnight stay. This will be fully paid for by St Basils.
We encourage Board members to visit our accommodation services to deepen understanding of our work and support effective governance and decision-making. We would like all Board members to make 2 visits a year if possible.
All travel expenses incurred in attending Board meetings / conducting site visits will be reimbursed by St Basils.

IKWRO is a registered charity which provides advice and support to Middle Eastern, North African and Afghan women and girls living in the UK, who have experienced, or are at risk of all forms of “honour” based abuse, including; forced marriage, child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM), or domestic abuse.
We work with women and girls of all ages, including lesbian women, bisexual women and trans women. We offer services in Kurdish, Farsi, Arabic, Dari, Pashto, Turkish and English.
The overall role of a treasurer is to:
- Maintain an overview of the organisations’ affairs
- Ensuring its financial viability
- Ensuring that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.
General responsibilities
- To ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
- To ensure that the organisation pursues its objects as defined in its governing document.
- To ensure the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects (the charity must not spend money on activities which are not included in its own objects, no matter how worthwhile or charitable those activities are).
- To contribute actively to the board of trustees' role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
- To safeguard the good name and values of the organisation.

Treasurer Roles & Responsibilities
Refugee Biriyani & Bananas is seeking a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees and provide strategic oversight of the organisation’s financial health. The Treasurer plays a key governance role, strengthening financial literacy at Board level and supporting sustainable growth. The Board is responsible for governance and strategy and does not manage day-to-day operations.
Refugee Biriyani & Bananas (RBB) is a growing charity registered with the Charity Commission (Charity No. 1189561). For the financial year ending 31 March 2025, RBB reported a total income of £423,041 and total expenditure of £373,007. As a charity with income above £250,000, we prepare annual accounts in accordance with the Charities SORP and undergo independent examination.
As our current treasurer prepares to step down, we are expanding our Board of Trustees to support the growth and future plans of our ambitious small charity. Board meetings take place every 12 weeks via video call, with opportunities for in-person gatherings throughout the year. Additional meetings may occasionally be required, either more frequently, in smaller groups, or one-to-one, depending on specific needs or exceptional circumstances.

About Refugee Biryani & Bananas
Refugee Biriyani & Bananas (RBB) began as a grassroots movement in 2015, in response to the Syrian refugee crisis. What started as a group of friends distributing 2,500 portions of biriyani and bananas in the unofficial camp for displaced people in Dunkirk, Northern France, has grown into a community-driven humanitarian organisation. Initially working under the umbrella of another organisation, RBB became independent to better address gaps in aid and advocacy for displaced people worldwide.

Our Approach
RBB is a mobile grassroots organisation, designed to respond rapidly and flexibly to emerging crises. Our main base of operations is on Chios Island, Greece, where we provide ongoing support to people who are displaced.
Since October 2023, we have also established community-led initiatives to support people affected by the war in Gaza, Palestine, as well as Sudanese and other displaced communities in Cairo, Egypt.
Beyond emergency relief, we remain committed to ongoing support through volunteers, translation services, medical care, aid, and advocacy until either local capacity builds or the situation changes. In addition, our Community Humanitarian Leaders Programme (CHLP) plays a vital role in this approach by strengthening the leadership of people who are displaced by building on their existing skills, networks and lived experience in humanitarian efforts.
Our field team comprises 90% individuals from refugee and asylum-seeking communities, representing Sudan, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Gambia, Ethiopia, Palestine, and Yemen. This diverse team is led by our founder and CEO, Ruhi Akhtar, alongside field coordinators / project managers.
We prioritise dignity and equity, involving displaced individuals in decision-making and collaboration. RBB's direct aid includes food, water, shelter, medical supplies, clothing, hygiene packs, and season-specific items like sunscreen or firewood. Needs assessments and communication with affected communities guide our actions, ensuring targeted, person-centered care.
Advocacy & Awareness
RBB amplifies the voices of displaced people by sharing their stories and raising awareness about often-overlooked realities. Through storytelling and advocacy, we aim to challenge injustice and inspire action.

About WAST
We are a grassroots organisation led-by and for women seeking asylum in Greater Manchester. We campaign for social justice and women's rights through a peer-led support model that helps women find their place in the UK. Women seeking asylum continue to live in a hostile environment where they often feel vulnerable and isolated. WAST (Women Asylum Seekers Together) seeks to combat this by offering a safe space where women can be heard, build confidence, and develop new skills.
The Roles
Due to the retirement of three long-standing trustees, we are recruiting four women to join our diverse Board of Trustees and help us deliver projects that the women themselves have identified as priorities.
One of these positions is for a Treasurer, who will support the Board in overseeing the charity’s finances, ensuring strong financial management and sustainability.
We are also particularly interested in recruiting more Trustees with lived experience of the asylum system, or the immigration system. WAST’s Chair and Honorary Chair have lived experience, and we would very much value more women with lived experience on our board.

The Brigantia Learning Trust Governance Model is different to the way a governing body in a non-academy or traditional school undertakes governance.
Essentially, there are four elements to the governance of the Brigantia Learning Trust academies – local councils that are delivered via the Academy Advisory Councils (AAC), Trust governance, delivered via the Full Board of Trustees (Non-Executive Directors), the Trust Leadership Team (Executive Directors) and the Trust Members.
The Board of Trustees has 4 sub-committees, concerned with Finance, Risk & Audit, HR, Education & Standards and Remuneration along with the four Academy Advisory Councils: Brigantia Hill Fort, Hinde House (2-16), Yewlands and Longley Park Sixth Form. As the trust continues to grow, and the Academy Advisory Councils become more experienced and confident, greater delegated powers will be identified and approved by the Board of Trustees.
Local Councils - The Academy Advisory Council
Each AAC consists of a group of people who could be parents, community nominees, academy staff. They will meet with the academy (Executive) Principal, Associate Principal and other senior leaders where appropriate. In attendance at these meetings will be Link Trustees and members of the Trust Executive Team may be in attendance. This is to ensure that the voice of the local stake holders is heard first-hand by the Board of Trustees.
The Brigantia Learning Trust Board has established six key roles for Academy Advisory Councils:
• To advise/act as a critical friend to the (Executive) Principal of the academy
• To advise the Trustees about local issues they need to consider that affect the academy
• To support the Safeguarding Trustee with localised academy information
• Represent the interest of the academy community in the running of the academy
• Represent the academy in its community
• Provide support to the (Executive) Principal in undertaking appropriate day to day procedures that are essential to the life of the academy
The six roles translate specifically into the following tasks that the AAC undertakes:
• To act as a key link between the academy, parents and local community
• To support the work of the academy in the community
• To help on the ground with the implementation of certain academy policies
• To offer challenging but positive and proactive support to the (Executive) Principal
• To regularly discuss the academy’s performance in relation to the KPIs (Key
• Performance Indicators)
The difference between Brigantia Learning Trust Governance and a traditional Governing Body
By comparison to a traditional school Governing Body:
• The AAC’s role is not to “manage” the Academy as such. This is done through the Trust Leadership Team and the Board of Trustees. Therefore, the AAC is not required to take decisions on staff or financial matters affecting the Academy. As an Academy Advisor you should have an understanding of strategic issues that impact on the Academy, and be updated on them regularly by the Principal, but you are not required to have direct responsibility for them.
• As the Trust Leadership Team and Board of Trustees takes responsibility for educational standards, legal compliance and financial viability, the AAC then has the time to investigate the impact of policy on the ground, to see how they are working, and explore how the Brigantia Learning Trust ethos is being understood and expressed in the way the Academy operates. As an Academy Advisor, your view as a parent or as part of the community is vital in this discussion.
3. HOW THE AAC OPERATES
Expectations
Brigantia Learning Trust understands that the role of an Academy Advisor is voluntary, however, in order for the Academy Advisory Council to function efficiently and effectively, there are certain expectations of Academy Advisors in order to achieve this.
i) Meetings
Meetings of the AAC take place 3 times over the academic year. The meeting is prepared by the Principal and the Chair of the AAC, and the process is supported by the clerk to the AAC. You will receive a link to the agenda and papers in advance of the meeting from the clerk electronically.
Meetings are usually held after school or at other times as agreed locally by all Academy Advisors.
ii) Contribution at meetings and outside of meetings
Academy Advisors are expected to come to meetings prepared; having read and familiarised themselves with the agenda and accompanying papers as well as being prepared to ask relevant questions (Please see section 3.2 for further detail and examples).
iii) Business Interest and code of conduct
Academy Advisors are required to declare any business or other interests in any item being discussed at the AAC meeting. The Academy Advisers are asked to abide by the AAC Code of Conduct. The AAC clerk will provide the appropriate forms for AAC members to sign.
iv) AAC Responsibilities
Academy Advisors should make every effort to visit the Academy during the Academy day; all visits must be planned and focused on areas as agreed by the full Academy Advisory Council. Visits inform the work of the AAC and provide valuable information for support and challenge to the Academy’s Leadership Team. AAC members are asked to report on their visit using the appropriate form. This report will be presented at the AAC meetings, and a central record of all visits will be held by the Clerk to the Board of Trustees.
v) Skills Audit
All Academy Advisors are expected to complete a skills audit at the beginning of every academic year, this assists the Trust Executive and Trustees to identify gaps in skills and arrange appropriate training.
vi) Safeguarding
All Academy Advisors are required to have an up-to-date enhanced DBS check, as well as undertake annual safeguarding training as required, this will be delivered at the first AAC meeting of the academic year.
