Liverpool Guild of Students is an independent, student-led charity dedicated to enhancing the student experience at the University of Liverpool. As they continue to strengthen their governance and long-term impact, they are seeking a committed and strategic individual to join their Board of Trustees and help guide their mission of creating an exceptional university experience for every student. 

About the Role 

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of students in Liverpool. As an External Trustee, you will play a key role in setting and monitoring the Guild's strategy, providing financial oversight, managing risk, and ensuring the organisation remains fit for purpose. The Board meets four times per year, with trustees also invited to sit on sub-committees covering Resources & Audit, People, Culture & EDI, and Governance & Appointments. 

The Guild is keen to hear from individuals who can think strategically, critically evaluate complex issues, and contribute meaningfully to Board discussions. They are particularly interested in candidates who bring networks within Liverpool, knowledge of the Higher Education sector or Students' Unions, experience of complex multi-service organisations, or expertise in EDI best practice. First-time trustees are warmly welcomed, and the Guild is committed to building an inclusive Board with diverse perspectives and backgrounds.

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Northern Projects reserve team on a dedicated learning and development programme to survey and monitor species such as great crested newts and white clawed crayfish.

This opportunity is for 6 months at 2 days per week

What will you be doing?

On this Voluntary Placement you will gain experience from survey and monitoring projects across the county. You will be based in YWT’s York office with field work predominantly carried out across North and West Yorkshire.  You will spend time with our project officers in undertaking activities on third party land, however there will also be the opportunity to shadow other members of the team to enhance your development. You could gain experience in the following areas:

• Species survey and monitoring as part of national and local schemes including environmental DNA (eDNA) and traditional methods
• Riparian ecology, restoration and monitoring
• Land management techniques to improve water quality
• Wetland habitat creation
• Undertaking practical tasks such as habitat creation and restoration
• Gain an understanding of budgets and project management tools
• Mapping, administrative and GIS work using QGIS and Survey123
• Helping to publicising project work via traditional communications, social media and engagement events
• Helping to set up survey work and events with volunteers and landowners
• Involvement in partnership projects and engaging with farmers, landowners and other stakeholders

We are seeking a passionate and strategic Head of Communications to lead our communication efforts and enhance our visibility. The role involves working closely with the CEO and collaborating with other members of the operations team to develop and implement effective communication strategies that resonate with our stakeholders, support our growth and amplify our charity's impact. This individual will have a budget to conduct campaigns and work with our partners in communications to ultimately grow our donor base.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Volunteering alongside colleagues including the branch coordinator/team leader, Cat Welfare team, branch development manager and Vet team to ensure that cat care policies, procedures and standards are applied
• Support fosterers to follow cat welfare policies and procedures
• Acting as the main point of contact within the branch for cat welfare and ensuring that welfare updates are shared and implemented effectively
• Supporting the branch by ensuring that accurate and up to date records of all cats helped are maintained, using specified systems
• Attending relevant volunteer training sessions and encouraging other volunteers to do likewise
• With the other volunteers, recruit, induct and support all branch fosterers and cat care volunteers
• Represent the branch at relevant meetings
• Play an active part in the branch committee, being part of the branch team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the cat adoption team leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with our policies and procedures

Time expectation

The time expectation for this role will vary depending on the number of volunteers and cats in care. Our cat welfare team leaders usually spend between 10 to 12 hours per week in this role which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

CONTEXT

The Women & Families Resource Centre (WFRC) is a registered charity based in

Wolverhampton which supports, empowers and advocates for women and children.

We aim to actively encourage women to be self-reliant, through empowering them to

identify their own needs, make their own choices and create their own solutions. We

offer a baby bank, a charity shop & various community support services to help

women facing crises or challenging situations.

Wolverhampton Baby Bank is a flagship project run by The Women & Families

Resource Centre, a registered charity supporting families with children aged 0-3.

Through donated essentials and community engagement, we provide much-needed

items such as:

• Essential supplies for babies and toddlers, including nappies, wipes, clothing, toys,

and bedding.

• Support services for new parents, including drop-in groups and befriending for

pregnant women and new mothers.

• Referrals and resources to connect families with additional community services.

Scope and Span

The Listing, Inventory & Photography Officer is responsible for accurately recording, organizing, and visually documenting donated items within the Baby Bank.

This role ensures that all items are properly listed, photographed, categorized, and updated in the inventory system to maintain transparency, quality control, and efficient distribution.

• Categorize items by type, size, age range, and condition

• Take clear photographs of items for listing in the online platform

• Ensure items are correctly labeled and stored in designated areas

• Update stock levels and item status in tracking sheets or inventory tools

• Coordinate with Sorting Team to confirm item condition before listing

• Maintain organized digital folders for item photos

• Flag missing, damaged, or mismatched inventory to the Team Lead

• Follow all operational SOPs for data entry and documentation

We provide support and guidance from our National Cat Centre and through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. We offer engaging online and face-to-face training, expenses and have policies and processes to help volunteers get the most out of their time with us.

About Make A Smile

Make A Smile is a UK charity dedicated to bringing joy, play, and magical experiences to children facing illness, disability, or disadvantage. Volunteers dress as beloved characters and deliver uplifting activities, from hospital visits and care‑centre sessions to arts, crafts, stories, and games - ensuring every child gets the chance to enjoy their childhood. Our Trustees and Central Officers help keep the charity running smoothly across the UK, acting “in the best interests of Make a Smile” and ensuring volunteers are well‑trained, supported, and empowered.

About the Role

The Sign Language Officer leads Make A Smile’s British Sign Language (BSL) and Makaton training programme, ensuring volunteers gain the communication skills needed to create magical, inclusive interactions at events. You will oversee teachers, develop engaging lesson plans, and ensure volunteers progress through training effectively.

Key Responsibilities

You will play a central role in developing and delivering high‑quality sign language training. Responsibilities include:

● Overseeing BSL and Makaton teachers and supporting them in running weekly sessions.

● Recruiting suitable teachers or supporting new teachers to develop their skills to the required level.

● Ensuring the charity can offer training at multiple levels (Beginners, Improvers, Novice, Intermediate) for both BSL and Makaton.

● Reviewing and approving lesson plans, ensuring content focuses on vocabulary and phrases useful for Make A Smile events.

● Managing volunteer applications for training, selecting participants based on commitment and likelihood of attending events.

● Supporting weekly sessions by ensuring attendance is taken, volunteers are engaged, and teachers have the resources they need.

● Stepping in to run a session or arranging cover if a teacher is unavailable.

● Monitoring volunteer engagement and removing volunteers from the programme if attendance or participation is consistently poor.

● Ensuring asynchronous training materials on the dashboard remain relevant and accessible.

● Reporting on training progress, volunteer engagement, and teacher needs at monthly Charity Leadership Meetings.

Skills and Qualities We’re Looking For

This role suits someone organised, supportive, and passionate about inclusive communication. You’ll thrive if you bring:

● Strong organisational and coordination skills.

● Confidence in supporting and guiding teachers.

● Creativity in helping shape engaging, event‑focused lesson plans.

● A proactive, solution‑focused mindset.

● An interest in BSL or Makaton (you do not need to be fluent - teachers deliver the content).

Time Commitment

Sign Language Officers are expected to contribute around 4 hours per week, including supporting teachers, reviewing lesson plans, managing training groups, and attending monthly Charity Leadership Meetings.

● A comprehensive handover and access to all systems (OneDrive, Simvoly, WhatsApp communities).

● Guidance from the Chair and fellow Trustees.

● Access to existing lesson plans, training materials, and templates.

Sign Language Officers must act in line with charity standards, including professionalism, confidentiality, and reliability. You must be able to attend monthly meetings and engage actively in communication channels. A DBS check may be required depending on involvement with events.
