We are now seeking a Trustee to join our Board and serve as Chair of our Finance, Investment and Audit Committee and Honorary Treasurer.
This is a significant governance leadership role at an important point in Turn2us’s journey. As we look towards our next strategic chapter, the Board will play a vital role in balancing long-term ambition with strong financial stewardship and governance. Turn2us is well positioned, with a diversified asset base including property and investments, alongside Elizabeth Finn Homes, our care home business, which contributes around one-third of the charity’s income.
We are looking for a qualified accountant with substantial experience of financial leadership, governance and risk oversight. Experience within the charity sector would be valuable, as would familiarity with areas such as investment management, property, social housing or care services.
Alongside technical expertise, we are seeking someone who brings sound judgement, curiosity, humility and a collaborative approach. You will provide constructive challenge and strategic insight, helping the Board and executive team navigate an increasingly complex financial environment while ensuring the organisation remains focused on delivering impact for people facing financial insecurity.

Time commitment

Global’s Make Some Noise utilises the power and reach of Global’s platforms, talent, and client base to raise vital funds and awareness for the charities we support. We also work closely with Global staff 'Globallers’, to tap into their skills and experience, which allows us to build meaningful training and development opportunities for our small charities and maximise the partnership, events and on-air fundraising opportunities.

Global’s Make Some Noise actively supports around 100 charities a year, in communities across the UK. These charities are small (under £1million in revenue) but high in impact, and provide critical help for some of the most vulnerable in our society.
We run 3 programmes to build sustainability in small charities:

· A grants programme to fund vital services and equipment
· A learning and development programme to help upskill charities
Our mission is to ensure that nobody in the UK is left facing life’s toughest challenges alone. We deliver that mission through four key pillars :
· Providing shelter and safety; A safe home is essential, yet millions of people don’t live in one. We work with small charities that exist to support those who have no option but to live on the streets, in temporary accommodation or in unsafe or overcrowded houses.
· Supporting physical and mental health; We fund crucial services to ensure people can access the support they need to feel well. This includes funding hospice and care services, mental health helplines, respite support for people with disabilities and their families, and food banks for those living in poverty.
· Improving life skills; We’re supporting programmes that are dedicated to improving people’s life skills and future opportunities. This includes helping people get the education they need, upskilling them for the future, providing access to wellbeing support, and supporting them into employment.

THE TRUSTEE BOARD
The Trustee Board comprises of a mix of internal (Global employees) and external Trustees, with specialist knowledge aiming to cover different areas across charity governance, finance, grant making, partnerships, content production, staff engagement, fundraising and marketing. The full Board meet five times a year, with four quarterly Board meetings and one Strategy half day. Members of the Finance Committee meet four times a year, ahead of the main Board meeting. Additionally, there is a Nominations Committee, who meet as required to discuss Trustee/Senior Team appointments. Board members are encouraged to attend meetings in person at Global’s offices in Leicester Square or Holborn.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Trustees play an essential role in the governance of the Charity and its future development. The Trustees, while retaining total responsibility for the conduct of Global Charities’ affairs, delegate functions to the executive staff and the Grants Panel. The following matters are key Trustee responsibilities:
· Appointment of Trustees and of the Chair
· Appointment of Grants Panel and the Chair, and approval of Terms of Reference
· Appointment of Finance Committee and the Chair, and approval of Terms of Reference
· Approval of the Terms of Reference of any other Panels or Committees
· Agreement of strategy, and approval of strategic plans
· Approval of the Annual Budget and of all expenditure over £200,000

Role Description
· To contribute actively to the Board of Trustees’ role in giving strategic direction to the charity, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
· To make sure that Global Charities complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
· To make sure the charity uses its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects and that the charity does not spend money on activities that are not included in its own objects.
· To scrutinise Board papers, attend quarterly Board meetings and contribute to discussions and decision-making processes.
· To provide guidance on new initiatives and issues in which the Trustee has special expertise.
· To make sure risk management and control systems are in place, with clear delegated responsibilities to staff for managing and mitigating risk, and to monitor these on an ongoing basis.
· To approve annual charity budgets including approval of Senior Management pay rises and monitor financial performance against these budgets.
· To ensure that Global Charities has policies and practice that mean it is able to recruit, retain and develop high quality people.
· To act as an Ambassador for the charity and establish networks in support of the charity’s strategy and reputation.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
The Board is looking for an experienced candidate who brings experience across grant-making, impact measurement and understanding of diverse and marginalised communities. A candidate who also has experience in fundraising, particularly how to technical applications from large funders, Trusts or Foundations, would be beneficial but is not an essential element of this role.
Essential Experience and Knowledge
We are particularly looking for candidates with significant experience in one or more of the following:
· Overseeing or managing a grants portfolio, including assessment, due diligence and decision-making
· Developing, delivering or overseeing impact measurement, outcomes frameworks or programme evaluation
· Working at a senior level with or for diverse and marginalised communities
· Operating at a senior level in the charity, foundation or social impact sector.
· Significant charity governance experience and a strong understanding of Trustee responsibilities

The Charity has a fundraising subsidiary, Global Charities (Trading) Ltd, whose principal activity is to contribute to the fundraising for Global Charities.
The ultimate control of the Charity is vested in its member, Global Radio Ltd. The member delegates the running of the Charity and the safeguarding of its assets to the Trustees. The assigned Executive for the member is the CEO, Global, who is represented by the Director, Global Goodness.
Trustees do not receive remuneration, as their role is entirely voluntary. They can claim travel expenses to Board meetings and any essential meetings as agreed with the Chair.

Summary of role
We are looking for teachers with a recognised ESOL qualification to support clients on a 1:1 basis with speaking, reading and writing English for an hour or so each week.
How does this role make a difference?
This support provided by volunteers to our clients really helps them progress with their English. Often clients do not have opportunities to learn English outside of the classroom or interact with a British-born person, so this opportunity is invaluable to them. Improving our clients English also enables individuals to access our other services such as, the employment team and digital inclusion, which will in turn, improve their employment prospects and assist in integration in their local community.

Our clients are refugees, migrants and asylum seekers who are unable to afford or access English classes at colleges. We have many clients at the Centre who need one-to-one support with their English, mostly around listening and speaking, fluency and confidence building. We can also offer additional sessions to clients who are accessing external ESOL classes who feel they need additional 1:1 support.

Our small friendly Charity Shop in South Westminster
As well as being an important source of revenue for the Centre, the shop on Horseferry Road is the public face of the Cardinal Hume Centre to the residents and workers of Westminster. It can be a very busy environment with lots of regular customers. You will be part of a friendly, international team! You will be part of the fundraising team, raising funds to support the work of the Cardinal Hume Centre and promoting the work of the Centre to the public. Typically, the Charity Shop raises in the region of £50,000 per year.
What will you be doing?
Flexibility will be given where possible, but in general, volunteers will undertake the following tasks as part of this role:
· Customer service on the till
· Cashing up at the end of the day and walking the takings round to the reception and handing in to Finance Team
· Greeting and helping customers
· Replenishing the stock on the shop floor
· Sorting donations
· Helping present top items in window display and around the shop

There are more responsibilities you can take on in the shop, for example; opening and closing the shop, cashing up at the end of the day and helping with the induction of new volunteers. Furthermore, if you want to expand your experience in the voluntary sector, you can combine your role in the shop with a volunteer role elsewhere in the organisation.
What are we looking for?
No special qualifications are needed to work in our shop, as relevant training will be given, however, we will be asking for the following qualities:
· Over 16+
· Good spoken English needed – at least Entry Level 3
· The ability to contribute to a positive team culture and atmosphere
· Be able to provide a friendly, high-quality service to customers
· A commitment to equal opportunities and to treating all individuals who visit or work in the shop with dignity and respect
· Physically fit - able to lift light bags and boxes and to comfortably use the stairs between the shop floor and the stock room. Manual handling training will be given.
What is the time commitment?
The shop opening hours are 10am – 4.30pm, Monday – Friday. A full or half day (10 – 1pm or 1 – 4.30pm) is ideal, but we are flexible and are grateful for even a couple of hours help each week. Ideally, volunteers will commit to a period of at least 4 months.
How will you be supported?
· You will be supported and trained in all areas of retail and customer service by the Charity Shop Manager and the Assistant Shop Manager.
· You will receive a Centre induction from a Volunteer Coordinator
· You will be reimbursed for reasonable and agreed ‘out-of-pocket’ expenses such as travel and also lunch if working a full day.
· For volunteers who stay for more than three months, we are happy to provide a reference.
The Centre enables families, children and young people to overcome poverty and avoid homelessness.

Communications Team Lead (Volunteer)
We are seeking a creative and experienced Communications Team Lead to play a vital role in raising awareness of the mission of Bounds Green Food Bank and drive donations. They will be responsible for leading a team of volunteers and assisting the team in coming up with creative ways to spread the word of the food bank.
About Bounds Green Food Bank:
Open since June 2020, we serve over 4,600 children and adults in the community. We are committed to improving lives by providing food and essential household items to build a healthy, hunger-free tomorrow. The role:
Create and lead on communication campaigns and initiatives to raise funds, recruit volunteers and promote our impact
Manage a fantastic Communications Team of remote volunteers with specific roles (social media, website management, business partnership, graphics and community liaison), providing guidance and managing workload
Work closely with the Fundraising Lead to create effective fundraising campaigns through newsletters, social media, flyers, events and our website.
Liaise with the other team leads via a group chat and occasional team meetings, staying up to date with changes across the charity and providing input from the Comms Team
Person specification:
Previous experience in marketing, communications, or related fields preferred.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, motivate and inspire a team of volunteers.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
