Job description

The Refuge & Accommodation Services Senior Caseworker supports the Refuge & Accommodation Services Manager in the operational delivery of LBWP's refuge and dispersed accommodation services.

The postholder provides first-line line management, supervision and practice leadership to Refuge & Accommodation Caseworkers and Child Specialists, ensuring women and children receive high-quality, trauma-informed and culturally responsive support.

Alongside managing a team of Caseworkers, the postholder may hold a reduced caseload of women with more complex support needs, oversee day-to-day operational issues, monitor the quality of casework and safeguarding practice, and support the Manager to ensure accommodation services are safe, effective and meet organisational and contractual standards. The post is based in Haringey with an expectation to work across Newham when it is required.  This is a 0.5 role wiht a possibilty to  be full time subject to funding.

The Senior Caseworker deputises for the Refuge & Accommodation Services Manager in their absence where appropriate.

This is a part time role, requiring 3 days per week (35 hours per week pro rata). There is potential for the role to increase to full-time hours in the future, subject to funding.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Line Management

  • Line manage a team of Refuge & Accommodation Caseworkers and Child Specialists, providing regular supervision, case management oversight, performance reviews, wellbeing support and development in line with LBWP policies.
  • Support staff to deliver high-quality, women-centred, trauma-informed and culturally responsive services.
  • Monitor individual workloads, allocate cases in consultation with the Manager and ensure resources are used effectively.
  • Support the induction, mentoring and ongoing development of new staff.
  • Identify learning and development needs and contribute to continuous improvement across the team.
  • Escalate performance, capability or conduct issues to the Refuge & Accommodation Services Manager, supporting formal processes where required.
