We combine practical in-home support with innovative community-led projects that tackle inequalities and improve wellbeing.
We're looking for a Deputy Director who is excited by the opportunity to help lead this established local charity into its next chapter.
This is a role for someone who enjoys thinking strategically while also rolling up their sleeves to make things happen. You'll work alongside the Director to shape our future, develop new services, build partnerships and secure funding. This is a pivotal leadership role at a defining moment in TLG's journey.
As TLG works towards its vision of fullness of life for every child, no matter what struggles they face, we believe the opportunity before us is significant. The mental health challenges facing children continue to grow, whilst churches and schools are actively seeking effective ways to respond.
The vision for this role is to help TLG substantially increase its reach and impact by growing strategic partnerships with churches, schools and wider stakeholders. At the heart of this ambition is TLG's belief that lasting transformation happens when school, home and church work together, creating a powerful network of support around a child.
This Role’s Impact:
The Head of Strategic Engagement will lead TLG's growth strategy, translating vision into influence, opportunity and sustainable growth. They will help shape and strengthen TLG's growth culture, bringing greater strategic focus to relationship-building, networking, pipeline development and partnership acquisition across the organisation. In doing so, they will help develop a more intentional and effective approach to sales, enabling TLG to achieve its ambitious 2030 goals.
A key aspect of the role will be driving the growth of TLG's therapeutic support offer, requiring proven expertise in building demand, securing contracts and developing strategic relationships with schools, Multi-Academy Trusts, local authorities and other commissioning bodies.
Working across the organisation, the postholder will strengthen our collective ability to identify opportunities, open doors and expand our reach to children and families through church and school partnerships. Central to TLG’s future growth is our ambition to deepen and scale the partnership between church, school and home. The successful candidate will be passionate about increasing these connections, working towards our vision of transforming the lives of 10,000 children through 400 active church partnerships by 2030.
Alongside this, they will help unlock new ways for churches to engage with our mission, strengthening existing partnership models whilst pioneering new opportunities that connect churches more deeply with the needs of children and families in their communities.
At a time when unprecedented numbers of children are experiencing challenges with emotional wellbeing and mental health, this role offers the opportunity to mobilise the Church's response to one of the defining social challenges of our generation.
TLG is a Christian charity and, as a team, we want to bring our faith to the work we do; as such, we are recruiting an individual with a strong and vibrant Christian faith. We would welcome applications from candidates from diverse backgrounds to enable us to better reflect the needs of the communities we serve.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis prior to the closing date, so we would encourage you to apply as soon as you’re able. We reserve the right to interview and appoint prior to the closing date.
Hours: Full time (37.5 hours per week)
Closing Date: Wednesday 7th October
Initial Interviews: Tuesday 13th October – Online
Final Interviews: Monday 19th October – at our National Support Centre in West Yorkshire

Citizens UK
Citizens UK is the UK’s biggest, most diverse and most effective people-powered alliance. We bring communities and local organisations together to work on issues that matter; from campaigning for zebra crossings on dangerous roads, to reforming the immigration system, to the Living Wage campaign. We have a track record of winning change through hundreds of local and national campaigns. We know everyday people have the ability to shape the world around them. We believe that through developing local leaders, we can drive nationwide change and create community-led solutions to big and small problems.
Living Wage Foundation
The Living Wage movement began in 2001, after Citizens UK brought together communities in East London to discuss poverty and low pay. The campaign grew in momentum and soon required a mechanism to recognise employers who wanted to join the movement, which saw the establishment of the Living Wage Foundation in 2011.
Still part of Citizens UK today, the Living Wage Foundation continues to work with community organisations to make sure the voices of both workers and businesses are part of the Living Wage movement. We now work with over 16,000 employers, benefitting over 475,000 people and winning over £3bn of better wages for people who need it most.
Citizens UK works with a broad base of institutions across the political spectrum. At the Living Wage Foundation, we take the same deliberately broad-based approach and accredit all organisations who pay the real Living Wage to their directly and indirectly employed staff and are committed to tackling in work poverty. As a team we work across a range of industries and sectors to achieve this mission. We seek pragmatic coalitions in order to progress specific campaigns, and partnership around a particular issue such as Living Wage, does not imply an endorsement of broader purpose and policies.
Purpose
At Citizens UK, our organisers and project staff work within communities to develop leaders, strengthen organisations, campaign for change and organise across difference. There are various project roles and operational, communication, finance and HR roles that support the organisation and project staff and organisers to deliver on this mission and work. This work is rewarding and can be challenging; it requires a personal commitment to inclusion, a willingness to listen and disagree respectfully, and an interest in working in an organisation where our staff, member institutions and leaders will come from a diversity of backgrounds and often hold views that may be very different from our own. More information about how we operate within this context and build trusted relationships across difference can be found on our website and is covered in induction. Overall purpose of the role
Across London today, we estimate that one in two people do not have a Christian in their life who might share the gospel with them or invite them to church. Tragically it’s in London’s most deprived communities that people are least likely to hear this invitation.
That’s why we come alongside Christians across London and beyond – to encourage, equip and support them to make long-term connection with the people around them, and to invite them to follow Jesus. We seek to ignite a movement of mission in the local church.
The Communications and Marketing Team seeks to inspire Christians in London and beyond to join us in this mission. By telling stories that humanise those in gospel poverty, communicating the impact of missionary work, and producing content that is practical, prayer shaping, and mission mobilising, we are seeking to double the number of Christians and church leaders engaging with LCM over the next five years.
The Stories Lead contributes directly to this mission, playing a pivotal role as the conduit between what God is doing through LCM’s work with churches, training, and mission activity, and the audiences we seek to inspire. The role keeps close to the life of the mission, builds strong relationships with missionaries and colleagues, and captures compelling and inspiring stories from across the mission so they can be shared externally to invite people to pray, give, go, and join in the mission — and made available internally so teams across LCM can use them to do the same.
Key Responsibilities
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have proven experience working in the field of communications (with knowledge of best practice communication activities and methods), excellent and compelling storytelling ability with clear written communication, and an evangelical heart for Jesus!
There is an occupational requirement that the person appointed be an evangelical Christian.
Application Deadline
Please note that there is no closing date for applications, rather applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
Therefore, we encourage you to apply without delay to avoid disappointment, as the vacancy will close once a suitable candidate has been identified.
