Job description

Children and young people in London matter; their voices, experiences, and futures. They deserve every chance to make the most of their lives. But too many young people can't because they don't have the opportunities to help them thrive. This is where transformational youth work comes in, offering somewhere to go, something to do, someone to trust.

The Fundraising and Communications Officer plays a vital and diverse role in the success of the Fundraising and Communications Directorate and London Youth as a whole. As well as taking on your own specific projects, you will offer support to the wider Fundraising and Communications Directorate across events, different income streams, and communications projects as we work to achieve our targets in excess of £3.6m. You will collaborate with colleagues, funders, and partners and meet youth workers and young people as we look to engage and inspire audiences in support of transformational youth work.

What you will be doing

  • Support the Corporate Partnerships Account Manager to deliver challenging events, digital fundraising and volunteering.
  • Support the Fundraising and Communications directorate in the development and delivery of events, including the London Youth Awards, site visits, lunch and learns, Born Ambitious, and the AGM.
  • Support the Fundraising and Communications directorate in the development and implementation of a new income stream.
  • Support the Communications team on the development and delivery of on and offline communications assets.
  • Be the first point of contact for all fundraising and communications enquiries.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to ensure all pages on our website are up to date, accurate and compelling, and position our charity as a credible partner of funders.
  • Undertake research on behalf of the Fundraising and Communications teams as appropriate.
  • Provide essential administrative support to the Fundraising and Communications Directorate.
  • Ensure all information is recorded in an accurate and timely manner across all relevant systems and in line with relevant processes and procedures, including Salesforce and Sharepoint.
  • Contribute to the team's annual plans, strategies, budget planning, and reforecasts where appropriate.
  • Understand, support and communicate the vision, mission, and aims of London Youth and the needs of young people and youth organisations.
  • Reflect our inclusive culture in your day-to-day work and support a positive health & safety and safeguarding culture in your interactions with colleagues, young people, and youth organisations.
  • Follow our organisations anti-racism principles and practices as you actively promote and respect diversity and inclusion in all aspects of your work and working relationships.

What you bring to the role

Knowledge and Experience:

  • A good understanding of income streams and how fundraising teams function.
  • A good understanding of communications teams, their key responsibilities, and how they function.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to engage with stakeholders.
  • Proven administrative experience.
  • Experience of support on the development and delivery of events.
  • Demonstrable experience of undertaking and present research.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading on projects.

Attributes and Behaviours:

  • Passionate about and committed to improving the lives of children and young people.
  • A demonstrable sense of ambition and drive, underpinned by a can-do attitude.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative.
  • Collaborative team member, willing to seek advice and support from others.
  • Creative mindset.
  • Commitment to quality and attention to detail.
  • Problem solver and comfortable working in a changing and flexible environment.
  • Resilient and able to adapt and thrive in a target-driven team.
  • Passion for personal and professional development with willingness to learn new skills.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends when required.

You will be able to demonstrate our values of being:

  • Ambitious
  • Collaborative
  • Inclusive
  • Accountable

Why work at London Youth

  • Generous holiday allowance - 39 days paid holiday each year (including bank holidays and closure days).

  • Free access for you and your family to the Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Free Health Care Cash Plan.
