About the Royal School for the Blind Charity
The Royal School for the Blind Charity Liverpool is a charity that runs both a School for young people aged 2-19 years old and an adult day service for young adults over the age of 19 with vision impairment, sensory, or additional needs. Although our funding comes from a variety of sources, we are starting to fundraise to support our income and make our work more sustainable for the future. Income generated will support the development of our pupils and young adults, prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life and encourage their independence, communication and mobility.
Why this role matters
We have ambitious plans for the future including building a new Centre to provide opportunities for therapies and independent growth for young people, and we know that developing sustainable voluntary income will be critical to achieving them. That's why we're investing in fundraising and creating this new role. As our first Development Manager, you'll have the opportunity to build our fundraising approach from the ground up, developing new relationships with individuals, businesses, communities and charitable funders and helping us tell the story of our work to new audiences.
Role Overview and Application Process
Job Title: Charity Development Manager
Hours: Full Time (37 hours per week)
Location: This role can be either office-based at the Royal School for the Blind Charity, or hybrid.
Responsible to: Charity Leadership Group and managed by Head of Central Services
Pay Scale: £35k - £40k, depending on experience (NJC 26-30)
Term: Two-year fixed term in the first instance, with the ambition to establish fundraising as a sustainable long-term function within the charity.
This is a rare opportunity to build and shape a new fundraising operation from the ground up, playing a pivotal role in the long-term growth and sustainability of the Royal School for the Blind Charity. As the function develops, there will be scope to expand its reach and impact, offering excellent potential for career progression.
The Charity Development Manager will lead efforts to secure vital income that underpins the charity’s vision and purpose, driving support through donor engagement, targeted campaigns, and strategic fundraising initiatives. Our long-term ambition is to build a diversified fundraising programme capable of generating approximately £400,000 annually. This role will be instrumental in developing and delivering a growing, high-performing fundraising portfolio.
We are looking for an experienced fundraising professional who can design and deliver a robust, evidence-based fundraising strategy. This will involve gaining a deep understanding of the charity’s mission, stakeholders, and audiences, as well as the broader funding landscape, creating a diversified and effective approach that maximizes income and long-term sustainability. This is an exciting time for the Charity as we become much more outward-looking. Alongside our existing work, we have begun a capital building project to enhance our resources. When completed, the new Rushton Centre will house facilities which are open to the public, including a hydrotherapy pool and a café. At the heart of this is a wish to make the Royal School for the Blind Charity part of the fabric of the City.
In this new post we are looking for someone who can help open up our work to the wider public: the role is well suited to an experienced fundraiser looking for autonomy and the opportunity to help shape the next chapter in the charity’s history.
Although this is a new standalone fundraising role, you won't be building the function in isolation. The post sits within a well-established and supportive team and will be strategically led by the Charity Leadership group and Board of Trustees. In addition, you will have access to colleagues across our services to help bring our impact to life, and support to develop campaigns and engage new audiences. Alongside this, the Charity is currently fundraising for a capital project for a significant new building to resource our activities and reach out into the wider community. Whilst this is a separate project, in the future there will be exciting opportunities to link the new building into the core fundraising strategy.
For full roles and responsibilities please see the application pack.
Applications close: 9am on Wednesday 21st October
Shortlisting: Thursday 22nd October
Interviews: Wednesday 4th November
Preferred start date: January 2027 (or as soon as possible)

Please note we do not accept CVs as a form of application. Please complete the application form attached.
Candidates are encouraged to book an informal chat with the Head of Central Services, to book this, please email HR. The email for HR can be found on the attached application pack.

Alongside your clients, you’ll draw on a wide network of Single Homeless Project (SHP) and community services to help turn personal goals into meaningful outcomes.
Join us, and you’ll be part of an ambitious, values-led organisation where you’ll grow your skills, stretch your potential, and see the tangible difference your work makes - every single day. Whether you’re just starting out or ready for your next challenge, this is more than a job - it’s a career with purpose.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative Data and Fundraising Operations team at a time of significant growth. You will combine technical database work with stakeholder support, training and process improvement, helping colleagues use our systems confidently and effectively.
You do not need to know every system we use from day one. If you have strong data manipulation skills, enjoy solving complex problems and can quickly develop expertise in new technology, we would love to hear from you.
What makes this opportunity different
This role offers more than traditional database administration.
Our Data and Fundraising Operations team acts as the technical lead for many of the Charity’s systems and technical projects. Alongside developing your knowledge of Raiser’s Edge NXT, you’ll have opportunities to broaden your experience across Excel, Access, SharePoint, APIs, data integrations, reporting, automation and system implementation.
You’ll be joining a collaborative and supportive team where you can deepen your CRM expertise while developing a broader understanding of data, systems and digital processes within fundraising.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll help colleagues across the Charity get the best from our fundraising CRM and data by:
- Providing day-to-day support and troubleshooting for Raiser’s Edge NXT users
- Supporting fundraising teams as they move from Raiser’s Edge 7 to NXT
- Delivering clear training, guidance and practical support to CRM users
- Managing data imports, cleansing, audits and database administration
- Monitoring data quality and improving how supporter information is recorded
- Working with stakeholders to understand their needs and improve systems and processes
About you
You may already be working as a Database Officer, CRM Officer or charity data specialist and be ready to take the next step in your career.
You’re curious, proactive and solutions-focused. You enjoy investigating data and system issues, working with complex datasets and finding practical ways to improve processes. Just as importantly, you enjoy working with people and can explain technical information clearly to colleagues with different levels of confidence and experience.
You’ll bring:
- Proven ability to learn new systems quickly and develop advanced knowledge
- Strong data manipulation skills using Excel, Access or comparable tools
- Highly developed problem-solving skills
- The ability to investigate data or system issues methodically
- Experience managing several stakeholders and competing requirements
- The ability to draw out requirements and translate them into practical improvements
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical information clearly
- A proactive approach and a high level of initiative
It would be helpful, but not essential, if you have
- Experience of working within a charity
- Advanced knowledge of Raiser’s Edge 7 or Raiser’s Edge NXT
- Experience using ImportOmatic or a similar data import tool
- Experience designing and delivering systems training
- Experience creating user guidance or process documentation
- Experience supporting CRM adoption or system change
Benefits:
- Hybrid working, with approximately 40% of your time in the office and 60% working from home each month
- 27 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, rising to 29 days after five years
- A contributory pension scheme with employer contributions of up to 6%
- Life insurance for eligible pension scheme members
- Enhanced maternity and adoption leave and pay
- Employee assistance and confidential counselling services
- Flexible working options
- Subsidised on-site canteens
- A bright, modern Chelsea office close to South Kensington station
- The technology and equipment needed to work effectively from home

About You
You will be a highly organised, proactive and values-led programme professional with experience of coordinating and delivering complex programmes, partnerships or community-based work involving multiple organisations, communities and stakeholders.
You will be confident turning plans into practical action, coordinating people, workstreams, developing and delivering training, community leadership, networks and system-facing activity, and ensuring commitments are delivered and followed through.
You will understand REN’s anti-racist purpose, Happy Healthy You’s work and remit as programme partners and Bhip’s approach to turning lived experience and community insight into action and system change, with experience of working alongside Global Majority communities, VCSE organisations, community leaders and system partners.
You will understand the importance of data, evidence and evaluation in demonstrating impact and be committed to embedding consistent use of agreed programme systems and ways of working across REN’s delivery.
As a key member of the Bhip team, you will work with the Programme Lead and closely with the HHU Programme Manager to ensure REN and HHU delivery is joined up and complementary, sharing learning, coordinating interdependent activity and working together to contribute to Bhip’s outcomes.
You will be a practical, people-focused team player who builds strong working relationships and a positive, collaborative team culture. You will bring resilience, adaptability and strong problem-solving skills, with the confidence to get involved, make things happen and respond constructively as the programme develops and evolves.

You will coordinate and deliver a diverse portfolio of REN-led work that will evolve, innovate and create meaningful change, from developing and delivering anti-racism and structural discrimination training, supporting community leaders and mobilising REN’s VCSE network, to strengthening the Health Policy Forum and supporting wider influencing activity.
Working alongside the Programme Lead and wider Bhip team, you will help support and build a genuinely joined-up programme, with scope to shape new approaches and contribute learning that helps change how health and care services, organisations and systems respond to structural racism, discrimination and health inequity, locally and nationally.
