Community Voice isn’t a strand of work for us; it’s what all our work is built from.
We’re recruiting a Community Voice Officer to strengthen that work.
At Together Active, we work across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent to make it easier for people to be active in ways that work for their lives. But we’re also trying to change how systems behave; how decisions get made, who shapes them, and what counts as evidence.
This role is about embedding lived experience into the way we think, decide and act, as something that influences direction from the start, not as consultation at the end of a process.
You’ll spend time listening directly to communities, to partners, to the spaces where people feel overlooked or misunderstood. You’ll notice where assumptions don’t match reality. You’ll test ideas. You’ll bring insight back into the organisation and into partnerships, and you’ll be prepared to stand by it.
We exist to design out inactivity across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

About Better Society Capital (BSC):
Better Society Capital (BSC) is the UK's leading social impact-led investor. Our mission is to grow the amount of money invested in tackling social issues and inequalities in the UK; we do this by investing ourselves and enabling others to invest for impact too.
Since 2012, we have helped grow the UK's social impact investment market thirteen-fold, to more than £11 billion, proving that impact investing can scale when social outcomes and investment opportunity are genuinely aligned. We have committed more than £1 billion of our own capital to social impact investments and today hold a live portfolio of over 100 across the UK, primarily made into funds spanning early-stage and mature positions, all working towards lasting impact for the people and communities they serve.
We're now delivering our 2026–2030 strategy: mobilising £20–30 billion in capital to positively impact 15–20 million lives across the UK over the next decade. We're focusing our expertise and capital on four challenge areas: housing, economic opportunity, climate and energy, and health. These have been chosen because each combines urgent social need, proven investment models and a clear role for BSC to play.
This is BSC's next chapter. Building on everything we've proven since 2012, we're scaling with greater ambition and sharper focus, and looking for people who want to help shape how we get there.
The Opportunity:
We are recruiting an Investment Manager – Portfolio to take a leading role in the delivery of our existing portfolio including on special situations and exits.
You will take ownership of performance and manager relationships across a broad portfolio of social impact investments. You will build relationships with senior leaders at our fund managers and take responsibility for how these investments perform against their financial, social impact and systems change goals. You will also oversee several treasury holdings, held for financial return and sustainable outcomes, that support how we manage liquidity.
Across the wider social impact investment portfolio, you will take a leading role in its most demanding and consequential moments: acting as our specialist resource for complex special situations and exits, working alongside asset class teams to protect and recover financial value and impact, and shaping how BSC triages, manages and learns from these situations.
This is an opportunity to build a distinctive skillset across every asset class in which we invest, from portfolio management and manager relationships to restructuring, workouts and complex negotiation, developing cross-asset-class judgement that few comparable roles offer. We will create opportunities for you to contribute to new investments and strategic projects as our 2026–2030 strategy takes shape.
Our excellence in impact investing practice is recognised externally. In 2025 and 2026, BSC was placed on the BlueMark Global Practice Leaderboard after ranking in the top quartile across all 8 dimensions of the Operating Principles for Impact Management. You will help carry that standard forward.
We invest in our people as seriously as we invest our portfolio. You will accelerate your growth through hands-on experience, tailored training and collaboration with sector-leading specialists as well as gaining direct exposure to our Investment Committee and senior leadership.
What you will do:
Lead the performance management and manager relationships for a portfolio of social impact and treasury investments
- Manage a portfolio of social impact investments towards exit, delivering on financial returns, high social impact and systems change goals, including our charity bond investments and direct investments into or with fund managers.
- Share portfolio learnings that improve how we invest to benefit underserved and vulnerable individuals in the UK.
- Manage several treasury fixed income holdings alongside your primary social impact portfolio, overseeing performance of our externally managed mandate and contributing to strategic treasury initiatives such as asset allocation and ESG approach.
Take the lead on special situations and exits
- Take the lead on complex, often distressed special situations across the portfolio, including client portfolios, working alongside asset class teams to protect and recover value across financial, impact and systems change outcomes.
- Lead the active management of exits across the portfolio, partnering with asset class teams to bring investments through to exit.
Contribute to the management of our multi-asset portfolio
- Lead parts of our fund manager strategy delivery, working alongside asset class teams to prioritise and learn from our engagement with fund managers.
- Input into how we manage our overall portfolio performance, asset allocation and liquidity.
- Lead on discrete analysis as required across financial, impact and systems change at the whole portfolio level, advancing how we consider these dimensions in an integrated way to support learning and performance management.
- Over time, contribute to due diligence of potential new investments and strategic projects aligned with our 2026-2030 strategy.
Help lead the next phase of our market-leading impact investment approach
- Oversee and embed continuous improvement and learning from special situations and exits, sharpening how BSC manages risk across the portfolio.
- Lead and contribute to parts of our market-leading impact investing practice, with colleagues across BSC and with external partners.

Working closely with our Chief Executive and Senior Management Team, you’ll:
- Lead the migration from QuickBooks to Xero (or an agreed cloud accounting platform).
- Produce insightful monthly management accounts and financial reports.
- Develop budgets, forecasts and financial models.
- Present financial information to Trustees and senior managers.

- Lead the annual audit process.
- Line manage and develop our Finance Assistants.
- Help build a finance function fit for the future.

You’ll probably have experience of:
- Charity finance.
- Management accounting.
- Budgeting and forecasting.
- Audit preparation.
- Financial controls.
- Cloud accounting systems (Xero experience is highly desirable).
- Leading change and improving systems.
- Supporting non-finance managers.
- Working collaboratively with senior leaders and Trustees.
Most importantly, you’ll be someone who enjoys solving problems, embracing technology and helping organisations grow.
We ask you to apply by sending us your CV and cover letter (2 pages) demonstrating your experience.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
Harris Hill is working in partnership with a leading organisation supporting people living with HIV to recruit a Welfare Rights Advisor. This is an opportunity to join a purpose-driven team providing practical advice, advocacy and support to help people navigate complex welfare and benefits systems and maximise their income.
The role is predominantly remote, with the successful candidate required to attend HIV clinics across central London one day per week, usually for a half day, as part of an outreach-based service. The position is offered on a one-year contract, with the possibility of extension, and can be full-time or part-time, with a minimum commitment of two days per week.
As Welfare Rights Advisor, you will provide high-quality one-to-one welfare benefits advice and support to clients, assessing their needs, developing action plans and helping them access the financial support to which they are entitled. You will support clients with welfare forms, advocacy and tribunal attendance where required, while also making appropriate referrals to other specialist services. The role will involve working closely with health and social care organisations, delivering outreach in HIV clinics, organising workshops and training sessions for frontline professionals and NHS staff, and providing updates to colleagues on welfare and benefits legislation. You will also support and develop volunteers, contribute to drop-in sessions and ensure that client records, monitoring information and reports are maintained accurately and effectively.
You will be a qualified welfare rights adviser with at least two years’ experience providing welfare and benefits advice to vulnerable groups, alongside a strong understanding of the UK welfare and benefits system. Experience of casework systems, volunteer support, group facilitation or specialist areas such as housing, debt management or income maximisation would be advantageous, as would knowledge of Salesforce or languages in addition to English.
