Are you a kind, caring and compassionate individual who has a wonderful way of communicating with others within the local community - with the ability and enthusiasm to find out what support is needed?
An exciting opportunity to join our new volunteer service to help shape its future growth – and we want you to apply!
We are searching for a new Volunteer Coordinator to join our small, friendly team in recruiting, managing, and matching volunteers to help us in our mission – supporting unpaid Carers to have vital respite from their caring roles.
The role is full time 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday, and you will be working alongside our colleagues across Crossroads Care Kent - from our Care Managers to Project Managers for Young Carers and Dementia Outreach.
As well as recruitment skills, the right person for this team will have plenty of common sense and be able to provide a listening ear, supporting people to access the holistic help they need at difficult times.
Our service offers people appropriate information and guidance based on their individual circumstances and needs, so flexibility and good communication skills are essential attributes needed to carry out this special role.
The successful candidate will be able to work on their own initiative; will have a sensitive and sympathetic approach to difficult situations, strong organisational skills, and the ability to co-ordinate a large team of volunteers, so if you have experience of working in health, social care or third sector organisations, recruiting and managing people, and undertaking assessments of needs - we would love to hear from you.
The role is based in our Wateringbury office, but travel will be required in Kent to visit families, meet and interview volunteers and attend events - so a full driving licence and use of own car is essential.
As well as this exciting and rewarding role in a lovely team we offer a competitive salary, contributory pension scheme, great support and development, 28 days holiday pro rata increasing with service, enhanced sick pay and on-site parking.

An excellent communicator and relationship‑builder, you can influence and work collaboratively with people at all levels. You combine strong organisational and project‑management skills with sound judgement to turn plans into measurable outcomes. You're also an experienced people manager who enjoys developing others.
A background in higher education, fundraising, advancement, charity, membership or another relationship‑led environment would be valuable, but transferable experience is equally welcome.

We work with philanthropists, companies and trusts & foundations, building a community of generous and loyal supporters from our Patrons Circle and legacies to major grants and corporate partners. Our current focus is to secure a team target of £2M revenue income in this financial year, and deliver the funding needed to deliver First Light, a landmark capital transformation of the Royal Observatory Greenwich.
First Light is an £85M project to deliver an ambitious schedule of much needed repair to the unique built heritage, vital capital improvements to the site plus an embedded programme of activities to build the nation’s science capital. A focus on physical, cultural, intellectual and financial access will ensure that everyone can enjoy, and benefit from, all the Observatory has to offer.
Aiming to break ground winter 2025 and reopen in spring 2028, First Light will affirm the Royal Observatory as THE centre for the public understanding and enjoyment of astronomy - a place of awe and wonder.
This is an exciting time to join the Development Team as we begin to plan a high-profile public campaign, seek to secure a principal gift to close the campaign and liaise with our ambassadors to build our reach and reputation.
