Camden People First is a user‑led organisation run by and for adults with learning disabilities. We promote independence, equality, and self‑advocacy across the London Borough of Camden. Our work centres on empowering people to speak up, make their own choices, and influence the services and policies that affect their lives.

This role supports our mission by helping adults with learning disabilities, build confidence, understand their rights, remove barriers and help them to take an active role in their community.

Role Purpose

To provide high‑quality, person‑centred advocacy for adults with learning disabilities, and neurodivergency in Camden. The Community Advocate helps individuals speak up, be heard, access services, challenge unfair treatment, and participate fully in decisions about their lives. The role also strengthens Camden People First’s presence in the community and supports our self‑advocacy groups.

As a Community Advocate, you will empower people to have a bigger voice, to be heard, and to be actively involved in decisions that affect their lives.

You will support individuals with issues including wellbeing and health, housing needs, accessing services, organising and attending meetings, and ensuring their rights are upheld.

Key Responsibilities

Advocacy & Empowerment

• Support adults with learning disabilities and neurodivergent) to express their views, wishes, and concerns in their own words.
• Provide independent advocacy during meetings, assessments, reviews, and care‑planning processes.
• Support people with a range of communication needs using accessible approaches (signs, symbols, photos, multimedia, etc).
• Help service users understand information and choices using accessible communication (Easy Read, plain English, visuals).
• Encourage and develop self‑advocacy skills so service users can speak up for themselves.
• Manage a caseload of up to 5 active cases at any time.
• Attend meetings and forums alongside service users.

Community Engagement

• Work in partnership with local services, including Camden Council Social Services, health providers, housing teams, and voluntary and community organisations.
• Promote the rights of people with learning disabilities across Camden.
• Support adults with learning disabilities to access community activities, employment, education, and social opportunities.

Casework & Representation

• Manage a caseload of individuals needing one‑to‑one advocacy.
• Attend multi‑agency meetings (such as MASH) to ensure the person’s voice is heard and respected.
• Challenge decisions or practices that undermine an adult with learning disabilities’ rights, wellbeing, or independence.

Safeguarding & Rights Protection

• Identify and report safeguarding concerns in line with Camden People First policies and statutory guidance.
• Promote the principles of the Mental Capacity Act, Care Act, Equality Act, and Human Rights Act and other legislation.
• Ensure all advocacy is independent, confidential, and led by the person.

Administration & Reporting

• Keep accurate case notes, outcome records, and monitoring information.
• Contribute to service evaluation, member feedback, and quality improvement.
• Support the development of accessible information and Easy Read materials.

Internal Relationships

Reports to the Director, with caseload-only supervision by the Volunteer Caseload Supervisor.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Level 4 Independent Advocacy qualification
• Experience working with people with learning disabilities or other vulnerable groups.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including accessible communication methods.
• Understanding of relevant legislation (MCA, Care Act, Equality Act).

Learning Disability Community Leader, L'Arche London

ABOUT THE ROLE

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week (including some evening and weekend working, and regular on-call)

Main purpose of the role

The Community Leader is responsible for ensuring that the Community is living the mission of L’Arche, by providing excellent and sustainable care and support services, support for  spirituality, and engaging with our neighbours and the wider community around us.

The Community Leader will:

• Lead the Community by responding to the needs, choices and context of our members while being faithful to the L'Arche UK Vision and Values, the L'Arche International Identity and Mission Statement, and to a co-created Community Mandate and plan.

Key essential criteria

• Senior leadership experience in support to adults with learning disabilities (or transferable skills and experience in a closely related field);
• Experience in leading, managing, and developing an organisation or large teams to deliver results, maintain compliance and quality, and to respond to risks and opportunities;
• Good financial planning skills and experiences of successfully managing a substantial budget;
• Ability to think strategically and work collaboratively to develop and implement community plans;
• Experience of living or working alongside people with learning disabilities and/or autistic individuals;

Learning Disability Practice and Projects Lead

The Role

We are looking for a Learning Disability Practice and Projects Lead to lead a flagship new UK wide project (Making it Matter) to increase direct engagement with young people who have been historically excluded from engagement activities. You will drive change and improvement in learning disability practice through raising awareness of and leading the team that implements co-produced training workshops and promote best practice in support for people with severe learning disabilities.

You will also contribute to the leadership of the charity as a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT).

Responsibilities will include:

• Leading a five-year project to increase direct engagement with young people who have been historically excluded from engagement activities because they do not communicate using speech and/or are assessed as not having capacity
• Drive change and improvement in learning disability practice through training workshops
• Build on well-established relationships to promote best practice
• As a member of the Senior Management Team

About You

• The issues facing children, young people and adults with severe or profound learning disabilities, whose behaviours may be described as challenging and their families
• Best practice in supporting people with learning disabilities whose behaviours may be described as challenging
• Management and/or leadership experience relevant and transferrable to this role including people management, project leadership, experience of contributing to and representing organisational objectives and budget management

You will also have good IT skills, proficient in Office 365 applications including PowerPoint and SharePoint and able to learn and adapt to new applications

About the Organisation

This is a varied role in a friendly and supportive small national charity focussed specifically on the needs of children, young people and adults with severe learning disabilities whose behaviour challenges, and their families. There is no statutory funding and the organisation relies on voluntary income to fund its work.  Income is sourced primarily from Trusts and Foundations to maintain independence. Strategic Leadership:

Job description

Purpose:

1. To assist in the planning and delivery of individual educational programmes designed to meet the social, learning and developmental needs of each young person.

2. To work with the First Start Manager as a member of a team.

3. To support young people with disabilities and/or on the autism spectrum to access the local community, services, events, education and training.

4. To support young people on the autism spectrum, with associated learning and or physical disabilities to access their own individualised programmes.

5. Support Worker / Drivers - To drive the service members accessing the First Start Service to and from the service premises and to other destinations as required.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

1. To assist in organising and providing a range of stimulating, challenging and interesting educational activities that are relevant to the needs of the individual, meeting their educational, social and developmental needs.

2. To actively participate in the delivery of a high-quality service that adheres to the Tower Project’s policies and procedures.

3. To ensure the service is delivered in consultation and partnership with Service members, Parents/ Carers, Colleges/ Schools and other relevant parties.

Duties:

1. To work directly with young people as required by the First Start Manager.

2. To support First Start service members from a person-centered approach, recognising, valuing and seeking to reinforce individual identity by way of responses and informed choices.

Knowledge:

Essential:

Context of Job

AFK is a national charity helping young disabled people develop their independence and find employment.  As part of this we provide bespoke travel training on London’s public transport network to and from school, college and work placements in the North London area.

We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible candidates to train and support young people to travel specified journeys safely and independently using public transport.

Overall Job Purpose

To train and support a young person to travel a specified journey safely and independently using public transport.  Record your observations and give feedback to the travel training coordinator, the young person and their family.  To take part in reviews of training as it progresses.

Working Conditions

• Casual working assignment with no minimum hours guaranteed

• Each assignment must be mutually agreed by both parties

Responsibilities

• Support a young person door-to-door as they travel on public transport.
• Familiarise yourself with the following documents –

1. Journey Plan – describes the route you and the trainee will follow, and the alternative route(s) if the need arises. 
2. Risk Assessment – outlines the support needs of the trainee, and risks and strategies to mitigate them.

• Record your observations using standardised forms and relay your observations to the travel training coordinator on a weekly basis.
• Allow the young person to learn independently and only guide, support or intervene when necessary (this will be included in your induction)
• Approach travel training in a positive manner by reinforcing achievements and viewing obstacles as opportunities to learn.  Discuss strategies and agree solutions with the young person, their family and the travel training coordinator.
• To contact the travel training coordinator immediately if there are any emergencies or unexpected situations.
• Ensure that the young person is trained to use the alternative route safely and independently.
• Ensure that the young person learns and/or knows how to contact parents or carers in case of an emergency
• Any issues or concerns must be raised with the travel training coordinator or the business development manager.

Main Duties

The Squad Club is looking for an enthusiastic and creative Club Leader to run our Juniors Club (ages 15–25) on Thursday evenings in Wimbledon, SW19.

This is a part‑time, fixed‑term role (8 hours per week, 40 weeks a year) paid at £13.85 per hour, with a mix of onsite and remote working.

The Squad is a small, volunteer‑run charity supporting young people and adults with learning disabilities through fun, inclusive weekly social clubs. Our members come to Squad to make friends, try new activities, build confidence, and enjoy a safe space where they can truly be themselves. Our clubs also give families and carers vital respite time.

About the Role

We’re looking for someone who can plan and deliver engaging weekly sessions, lead our Thursday night club, and work closely with volunteers, families, and our Operations Manager. You’ll help shape our annual programme, champion member voice, and make sure every session is safe, inclusive, and full of opportunities for learning and fun.

• Planning and delivering a varied programme of activities
