About the roles
Last year we launched our most ambitious strategy yet - Change Happens Now. To deliver on its promise, we have identified a phased and prioritised pipeline of cross-cutting strategic programmes that will move us closer to a future where, by 2050, everyone diagnosed with breast cancer lives - and is supported to live well.
We’re now looking for 2 Strategic Programme Leads to help deliver our strategy. You’ll work in our Strategy, Planning & Innovation (SPI) team, which is responsible for strategic change programmes, planning, innovation and involvement.
Both posts share the same job description and grade and will work flexibly across SPI’s full portfolio. However, each role has a distinct focus area and differs in contract type:
- Role 1 - Health Systems and Improvement – Permanent: This role focus is in health systems and improvement, which will include leading place-based programmes, stewarding UK-wide health-improvement standards, and building the external relationships needed to deliver system-level change.
- Role 2 - Engagement at Scale – 2 year fixed term. This role focus is in ‘engagement at scale’ programmes, in its first year, it will include programme leadership of our universal offer, an organisation-wide programme aimed at delivering an accessible support offer for everyone affected by breast cancer. It will also include providing strategic partnership for other large-scale programmes, such as healthcare professional engagement initiatives and behaviour change.
While each role has a primary focus area, we expect both post-holders to be flexible and adaptable. Priorities change, and you'll need to be equally comfortable working across specialisms, seeing the focus areas as a starting point which will evolve with organisational priorities.
About you
Whilst both roles are the same, given the specialisms, for role 1, we're particularly interested in candidates with experience of external connectivity across the UK health system landscape and a working knowledge of NHS structures, integrated care systems, clinical pathways and health inequalities. For role 2, we're particularly interested in candidates with experience of scaled engagement work, such as leading public engagement, support or community programmes.
For both roles, you’ll be able to get into the detail when it matters, including the design and sequencing of the programme itself. On some programmes you'll be the strategic lead, owning the work from start to finish and being the trusted strategic advisor to expert leaders. On others you'll partner an expert team, bringing the wider organisation in behind their delivery and working through the barriers that hold progress back.
You'll be confident leading, designing and running pilots and prototypes, with clear measures of success and an evidence-led approach to learning and improvement, ensuring you keep lived experience of breast cancer at the heart of your work. You'll be comfortable with ambiguity, making progress at pace without losing rigour, and you'll bring an innovation mindset, creating the conditions, methods and permission for teams to test, scale and embed new ways of working.
Most importantly, you'll be able to be flexible in your workload, and motivated by the chance to lead change in an organisation that wants to be brave, determined and ambitious - one that backs innovation, challenges the status quo when it needs to, and is willing to commit to the big, multi-year work that real impact requires.

You'll shape how we engage and retain schools, lead and develop a team of Programme Leaders, and broaden your expertise across network management, programme delivery, and organisational growth.
Working closely with the Senior Education Manager, the Education and Impact Manager and colleagues across the organisation, you'll grow participation across our school network, build strong and trusted relationships with schools, teachers and partners, ensure our flagship programmes run brilliantly, and create the engagement that enables more children and young people to become active citizens.
If you have a track record of leading delivery, building senior stakeholder relationships, managing teams and turning ambition into sustained engagement and growth, we'd love to hear from you.
This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of a critical organisational function, broaden your leadership and delivery portfolio, and play a leading role in the growth of an ambitious national charity.
We're looking for someone who brings:
-
Drive that delivers quality results
-
Comfort with intensive and high-volume delivery of network, programme and/or relationships
-
Enthusiasm for problem-solving, in a team and proactively in your role
-
An ability to learn fast and self-teach, from databases to how we communicate internally
-
A desire to develop your skills as a well-rounded member of a social impact organisation
Why Join Us?
This is a high-impact role with real scope to shape how Young Citizens grows, engages and retains its national network of schools, and how we deliver programmes that reach thousands of young people. You will work closely with senior leadership, take ownership of a key organisational function, lead and develop a team of Programme Leaders, and directly contribute to scaling our impact over the coming years.
You will join a purpose-led, ambitious and collaborative team committed to strengthening democracy by equipping young people with the skills, knowledge and confidence to participate actively in society.
We are a growing, agile organisation with a strong focus on learning and development. We invest in our people and provide real opportunities to build expertise, take ownership and grow alongside the organisation as we scale over the next three years.
We combine a results-driven culture with flexibility in how we work. Our benefits include 28+ days of annual leave (plus 8 bank holidays), volunteering days, office closure over the Christmas period, full pension contributions on the first 8%, and enhanced leave packages.
As a relatively small yet national team, you will have the opportunity to work across the organisation and closely with senior leadership, influencing how we improve our programmes, and see the direct impact of your work on our mission.
If you're looking for a role where you can develop your career, take on real responsibility, and help strengthen democracy through education, we'd love to hear from you.

This is an opportunity to join our Individual Giving team as a Growth Officer, with two roles available within the Growth function. These posts are focused on how we build stronger, more valuable relationships with existing supporters, increasing engagement through targeted cross-sell, thoughtful upsell and reactivation activity that brings lapsed supporters back into active giving. You’ll play a central role in delivering structured journeys that ensure supporters are receiving the right asks, at the right time, in a way that feels relevant and well coordinated across our wider fundraising activity.
Come and be part of the leading Armed Forces charity, making a difference to the lives of those who have served to keep us safe and protect our way of life.
Working closely with managers, senior stakeholders, data teams and agency partners, you’ll help turn audience insight into clear, well planned and effectively delivered campaigns. This role is about building and delivering targeted communications that respond to supporter behaviour and lifecycle stage, not one off activity, but planned journeys that are tested, measured and improved over time. You’ll be responsible for supporting planning, briefing and delivery, making sure activity is coordinated across teams, clearly understood by stakeholders, and aligned with wider Growth and Individual Giving priorities.
This role will suit someone who is highly organised, comfortable working at pace, and confident managing multiple priorities across different stakeholders and deadlines. You’ll need to communicate clearly, keep delivery on track, and work within structured processes while still contributing ideas that improve performance and efficiency. Most importantly, you’ll bring a practical, delivery focused mindset, someone who can take planned activity and make it happen properly, while helping us build stronger, more effective supporter relationships over time.
Fundraising sits at the heart of The Royal British Legion’s 10-year strategy, and we’re investing in the people, skills and ideas that will drive growth and strengthen our support for the Armed Forces community. Our Fundraising portfolio is broad and dynamic, spanning major corporate partnerships to our sector leading charity Lottery. We’re investing in growth, evolving how we work, and putting supporters at the centre of everything we do. This is an exciting time to join us. You’ll be part of a collaborative, forward-thinking team, helping shape the future of our fundraising and the impact we achieve together.
If you are applying for multiple Fundraising roles at the same ‘Officer’ or ‘Manager’ title, you are welcome to use the same supporting statement across applications. However, we would encourage tailoring your statement where possible, particularly if applying for roles across different teams or titles.
