We are River Action

We are a small and agile campaigning organisation on a mission to rescue the UK’s rivers from a toxic cocktail of agricultural, sewage and industrial pollution and water shortages. We support community action, galvanise and mobilise public opinion, influence government policy, take legal actions and call out destructive industrial practices to incentivise changes that end river pollution and secure freshwater.

Who we are looking for

We're looking for an exceptional campaigner to lead an ambitious environmental campaigning  programme for just over a year to cover maternity leave. This is an exciting opportunity for an inspiring leader who can develop bold, strategic campaigns that shift public debate, influence decision-makers and deliver tangible environmental outcomes.

You'll be an experienced campaign strategist who understands that lasting change rarely comes from a single tactic. You'll know how to bring together compelling communications, evidence and investigations, grassroots mobilisation, political engagement, legal interventions and partnerships into integrated campaigns capable of changing policy, behaviour and corporate practice.

We're looking for someone who combines strategic vision with practical delivery. Someone who is comfortable making decisions in a fast-moving environment, spotting opportunities as they emerge and adapting campaigns to maximise impact.

Experience in environmental campaigning would be highly valuable, but above all we're looking for someone with an outstanding track record of leading successful campaigns that have shifted opinion, influenced policy or held powerful institutions to account.

What you’ll be doing:

As Head of Campaigns, you will be developing and delivering bold, integrated campaigns that drive lasting change for the UK's rivers. You'll lead and inspire a talented team of campaigners, helping them to develop innovative, impactful campaigns while fostering a collaborative, ambitious and supportive culture. You'll work closely with colleagues across communications, policy, legal, fundraising and research, ensuring our work is strategically aligned and greater than the sum of its parts.

Leading River Action's Campaigns Team, you will shape the organisation's campaigning strategy, ensuring our work is innovative, evidence-led and designed to influence public opinion, hold polluters to account and secure meaningful political and systemic change. You'll create campaigns that connect compelling storytelling with community mobilisation, strategic communications, political advocacy, legal action and partnerships, ensuring every part of our work contributes towards our mission to rescue the UK’s rivers.

You'll provide strategic leadership across the full campaign lifecycle, overseeing campaign planning, delivery, budgeting, resourcing and evaluation. You'll ensure our campaigns are informed by robust evidence, guided by clear objectives and measured against meaningful outcomes, using insight and learning to continually strengthen our impact.

You will lead River Action's communications and public profile, ensuring our campaigns cut through the national conversation, inspire public action and strengthen our reputation as one of the UK's leading environmental campaigning organisations. You’ll oversee media, messaging and campaign communications that amplify our voice and build public support for change.

Internally, you'll work in close partnership with the Head of Public Affairs to ensure our public campaigns reinforce and accelerate our political influencing work, while ensuring community campaigns and grassroots action inform our national priorities. You'll also work alongside the Head of Legal to develop campaigns involving strategic litigation to achieve change within and outside of court and legal processes, using legal action as a catalyst for wider public awareness, policy change and industry accountability.

As a member of River Action's Senior Management Team, you'll help shape the strategic direction of the organisation and contribute to organisational leadership beyond your own department. You'll work alongside the CEO and fellow Heads of Department to deliver our organisational strategy, embedding collaboration, innovation and impact across all areas of our work.

You'll also play a key role in securing the resources needed to deliver our ambitions. Working with the Head of Development, you'll help develop compelling funding proposals, inspire funders with our vision and demonstrate the impact of our work through robust monitoring, evaluation and reporting. Working with the Finance and Operations Manager, you'll oversee campaign budgets, ensuring resources are managed effectively and strategically.

Main Duties 

• Provide strategic leadership as a member of the Senior Management Team, supporting the CEO to deliver River Action's organisational strategy, theory of change and long-term vision.

• Lead the development and delivery of River Action's integrated campaigning strategy, ensuring our public campaigns drive measurable environmental, political and societal change.

• Develop and oversee a portfolio of ambitious national campaigns, identifying opportunities to influence public opinion, policy, regulation and industry practice through innovative and impactful campaigning.

• Lead River Action's communications, media and public engagement strategy, ensuring compelling storytelling, strong brand visibility and effective use of traditional, digital and social media to grow our influence and supporter base.

• Lead the planning and delivery of River Action’s creative interventions and actions, from polling, petitions and shareholder actions to public protests and high-profile actions.

• Serve as a senior public representative and spokesperson for River Action, building the organisation's profile and influence through media engagement, public speaking, stakeholder engagement and high-profile external events.

• Oversee River Action's digital campaigning platforms, including the strategic development of our website and digital engagement tools.

• Work closely with the Head of Public Affairs  to ensure campaigns and political advocacy are fully integrated, maximising opportunities to influence government, regulators and decision-makers.

• Work closely with the Head of Public Affairs to ensure grassroots action informs national campaigns, and national campaigns empower and amplify community action.

• Work with the Head of Legal to identify, develop and deliver strategic legal interventions that strengthen campaigns, increase accountability and drive systemic change beyond the courtroom.

• Build and maintain influential relationships with campaign partners, coalitions, NGOs, academics, community organisations, funders and other key stakeholders to maximise collective impact.

• Lead campaign planning, governance and delivery, ensuring campaigns are effectively resourced, managed and evaluated against agreed objectives, budgets and monitoring, evaluation and reporting (MER) frameworks.

• Lead, inspire and develop the Campaigns Team, fostering a collaborative, creative and high-performing culture that enables colleagues to thrive and deliver exceptional work.

• Work with the CEO, Head of Development and senior colleagues to secure funding for campaign activities, contributing to funding proposals, donor engagement and impact reporting.

• Work with the Finance and Operations Manager to develop, monitor and manage campaign budgets, ensuring resources are used effectively and strategically.

• Support organisational reporting by contributing to Board papers, quarterly and annual reports, organisational planning and performance monitoring.

River Action is looking to develop a campaign around water security in the UK to launch in 2027. Please put together a campaign brief setting out the challenges faced, how we would develop and deliver this campaign including campaign asks; campaign outcomes; public, political and legal tactics; routes for funding and resource requirements.

Your campaign brief should be no longer than 2 sides of A4.

The Head of Learning leads Impact on Urban Health’s approach to turning evidence into organisational insight, learning and influence. The role is responsible for building the systems, practices and products that help us synthesise what we are learning from programmes, innovation, place-based work, evaluation, research, lived experience and external evidence, and use that learning to shape strategy, funding, delivery and external influence. • Lead Impact on Urban Health’s approach to insight synthesis and sense-making, establishing clear processes for bringing together evaluation findings, programme learning, research, data, lived experience and external evidence to identify what we are learning, what it means, and how it should inform future decisions.

Advocates for International Development (A4ID) is seeking to appoint a Project Officer to join the Legal Services Team at a pivotal moment in our organisation’s journey.

A4ID partners with world’s top legal professionals and development organisations to facilitate high-quality, free legal and technical support to advance the SDGs and improve the Rule of Law. A4ID is currently working hard to make its vision and mission a reality through its innovative pro bono broker service and bespoke pro bono projects; its acclaimed thought leadership and policy work; its Rule of Law Expertise UK Programme; and its international project work.

Purpose of the Role

The role of the Project Officer – Legal Services (POLS) is to support the PBLS team’s mission to advance the UN SDGs by brokering pro bono legal assistance from legal experts in support of international NGOs globally. The POLS will do this by coordinating the internal processes for project sourcing, scoping and allocating, and utilising legal expertise within these processes and when providing external training and communications.

A key focus of this role is to source and scope out the weekly pro bono projects and forms. The POLS will also engage law firms and other legal stakeholders, conduct due diligence, allocate projects, maintain project records, gather feedback, prepare internal reports and external communications and undertake other administrative tasks as necessary (e.g. updating software and implementing process changes). Other key responsibilities include assisting the Pro Bono Services Lead (PBSL) with any bespoke projects, assisting with training events for Development Partners on relevant legal topics, and engaging key Legal or Development Partners on any specific areas of legal interest or need.Key Responsibilities

Broker Service And Operational Responsibilities

The POLS is responsible for supporting PBLS and undertaking relevant responsibilities and duties, including:

• Sourcing, scoping and allocating pro bono legal projects between international development partners and legal partners efficiently and in required timescales.
• Quality assurance of projects and deliverables to ensure stakeholder needs are met. This includes establishing and delivering on internal reporting protocols, narrative reports, high-quality data gathering, and any other required external documentation.
• Managing feedback and progress reviews in relation to A4ID project stakeholders.
• Coordinating learning, thought leadership and training outputs and activities bilaterally between legal and development experts, including briefings, publications, training and learning events, particularly those with a legal focus.
• Working with the CSO Officer on direct outreach for building new partnerships with Development Organisations (NGOs and CSOs).
• Supporting PBSL in managing A4ID’s existing network of legal experts, and expanding the network by engaging with new legal experts.
• Assisting with trialing online pro bono platforms, such as Paladin and Justice Connect.
• Coordinating recruitment, line management and training of volunteers.
• Supporting PBSL with other internal processes to advance the mission of A4ID, as needed.

Marketing & Events

The POLS will support relevant marketing activities related to PBLS. This includes:

• Representing A4ID and increasing visibility of PBLS services at events related to legal pro bono at UK, regional and international levels.  
• Developing relevant external communications and material for social media and newsletters, particularly those with a legal focus.
• Drafting case studies and develop-related external communications (e.g. presentations, website articles and social media posts).

Fundraising and Income Generation

The PBLO will support relevant business development activities related to PBLS including:

• Draft and scope relevant applications and proposals (identified trusts, foundation or institutions).
• Support and provide input into income generation activities/proposal development for existing and new  pro bono products, services, and projects.
• Maintain and develop relationships with contributing legal partners, including participating in regular account management meetings to manage relationships.
• As needed, work across departments/teams support and contribute to overall fundraising and proposals, in line with the organisational strategy.
• Support assessments and mapping of potential funding sources, e.g. trusts, foundations or institutional funding.
• Conduct due diligence and onboarding of any potential new Legal Partners.
• Support and deliver other tasks as required by PBSL.

 Person Specification

• Law degree (in any jurisdiction).
• Four years of experience working in a legal setting, including law firms or legal charities.
• Strong experience of working independently and delivering tasks in a timely manner.
• Previous brokerage experience (ideally in a legal environment).

About the role 

The Administrative Assistant plays a key role in supporting the effective delivery of services,  projects, events and member communications across the organisation. The Advocacy Director holds primary responsibility for delivering ECC’s advocacy strategy internationally and within the UK. This strategy aims to ensure states’ legal obligations on casualty recording are recognised and upheld globally, and that casualty data is used effectively to shape policy responses to conflict.

ECC’s advocacy work is focused primarily within the human rights and humanitarian multilateral fora in Geneva, but also incorporates work with New York-based UN targets within the security field. The Advocacy Director will be ECC's most senior external face after the Executive Director. The Role 

The Finance Business Partner – Grants will play a key role in strengthening collaboration between Finance and Grants teams, supporting the effective financial management of the grants portfolio. The role will focus on building strong relationships with Grants stakeholders, developing a solid understanding of the granting process, and providing clear, timely financial information to support informed decision-making. 

The role acts as a link between Finance and Grants, translating financial data into meaningful insights for Grants teams, while ensuring financial considerations are appropriately reflected in granting decisions.

1. To see an increased and actively engaged support base giving regularly to sustain the work of SAT-7, so that SAT-7 UK is raising a sustainable £4M with over 3,500 donors.

2. Supporters and funders have a deepened understanding of the challenges faced by Christians and the people of the MENA region, and impact of SAT-7, to create opportunities to pray, engage and partner for change.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Write engaging content for a range of platforms, including print and digital, such as articles, scripts and email copy
• Prepare episode templates, invite and research guests for the ‘Around the Table’ podcast with captivating and informative topics through highlighting regional issues and Christian context
• Assist the Senior Editor in writing copy and copy editing for prayer resources, such as monthly 7 Ways to Pray and seasonal campaigns at Lent and Advent, that will encourage prayer engagement, raise awareness of SAT-7’s work and expand SAT-7’s support base
• Show how God is at work in the MENA, and mobilise increased prayer for the issues affecting different people groups and MENA Christians
• Inform supporters and the wider public about the context, news, challenges and opportunities for the MENA region and Church
• Assist the Senior Editor in the production of copy for Insight magazine, writing effective and inspiring copy to demonstrate the impact of SAT-7 and inspire supporters to take action
• Repurpose written content from SAT-7’s international office for use across a range of platforms, and adapt and upload articles to the SAT-7 UK website
• Gather news and contextual information to generate content for flagship supporter publications, and support other teams as required (e.g. for events, campaigns, appeals, church presentations, prayer updates and reports)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure consistent messaging, branding and tone of voice and that content conforms to SAT-7 security, communication and style guides for a range of different audiences
• Communicate sensitively and positively about the MENA region and the work of SAT-7
• Assist the Communications & Marketing Manager and other colleagues as required
• Operate at all times within relevant statutory requirements and guidelines, following best practice recommendations wherever possible, and especially ensure compliance with the Fundraising Regulator Code and GDPR legislation

Essential Skills and Abilities Required

• A degree-level qualification in Communications, English, Politics or a similar field

We train specialist dogs to detect the odour of human disease, providing life-saving alert assistance dogs to people with complex health problems across the UK and collaborating with NHS Trusts and other researchers and Universities both in the UK and internationally to advance the early diagnosis of disease.

We are looking for someone with the skills, experience and passion to join our Canine Services Department, and to be responsible for the recruitment, training and development of dog supply volunteers.

Responsibilities of the Role:

Recruitment of Volunteers (puppy socialisers, holiday cover, and fosterers)

• To liaise with volunteering team regarding current recruitment areas and support on the ground recruitment activities in the relevant regions, involving volunteers and dogs where appropriate
• To manage the process of dog volunteer recruitment
• To oversee that necessary checks have been completed to assess prospective new dog volunteers, including home, workplace, pet dog and children assessments, when required
• Inform stakeholders when a dog volunteer is signed off and ready to have an MDD living with them
• Achieve monthly targets as set by the Head of Dog Supply and Canine Services

Training of Volunteers:

• Deliver effective training by organising dog handling classes before volunteers receive their Medical Detection Dog
• Oversee the online training pathway for all dog volunteers
• Ensure all dog volunteers have received and read the training manual, addressing any questions they may have
• Be the first point of contact for all dog volunteers during the application and training process
• Link volunteers with appropriate buddies prior to placement of a puppy/dog

Other:

• To manage the Puppy Socialisers Facebook page, delivering key training messages via this platform.
• Update the Harlequin CRM and Assemble database promptly to maintain accurate and up to date records of all dog volunteers, e.g. what training they have received etc.
• Support the Dog Training and Partnership Instructor in matching and allocating dog volunteers with MDD puppies
• Support the charity’s fundraising, communications and volunteering teams as required, specifically in relation to your area
• Share best practice with colleagues across the charity
• Other tasks or ad hoc duties agreed with your line manager to ensure the successful running of the charity

Person Specification

Essential

• Experience in planning and coordinating volunteer recruitment events and recruiting volunteers
