Summary of Main Duties and Objectives of the Job:

Shelter Manchester are recruiting two Housing Rights Workers, as part of our @Home Service, to undertake preventative work with families at risk of homelessness, so that they can sustain a safe and secure home.
Your role will be to deliver high quality housing advice and advocacy in school settings to families at risk of becoming homeless and experiencing housing issues. You will plan and deliver holistic casework to families and support them to resolve their housing situation, as well as recording quantitative and qualitative data to evidence the impact of these interventions.

About you
You will have the ability to engage and work collaboratively with individuals, communities and a variety of stakeholders, including running group workshops and presentations. You will support people experiencing a range of complex challenges, including severe mental health difficulties, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, psychotic experiences and substance misuse, using de-escalation and other appropriate non-clinical interventions. Working within the boundaries of the role, you will assess risks, develop and review safety plans, collaborate with external agencies and escalate concerns when specialist, clinical or emergency intervention is required. You will also play an important role in helping residents develop practical life skills, prepare for discharge and create sustainable plans for maintaining their wellbeing and independence beyond the service.

We are looking for someone with experience of supporting people experiencing mental health difficulties and complex needs within a mental health, social care, housing, crisis or community-based setting. You will have a good understanding of the impact that mental health crisis can have on individuals and be confident in delivering person-centred, recovery-focused support that is strengths-based, trauma-informed and psychologically informed. You will be comfortable working with people experiencing significant emotional distress and able to recognise changes in presentation, assess risk and respond appropriately within the boundaries of a non-clinical role.
You will be a collaborative and compassionate professional with a strong understanding of safeguarding, risk management, confidentiality and professional boundaries. You'll be able to work effectively with a range of professionals, services and partner agencies, maintain accurate records using electronic systems, and demonstrate a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of your work. An understanding of co-production and the importance of involving people with lived experience in shaping support is also essential.

About the role
You will deliver high quality housing advice and advocacy in line with the hub’s local community priorities and work with people who are experiencing homelessness and bad housing to identify issues facing local communities.You will plan and deliver casework to individuals and communities to resolve their housing situation and engage with community groups, local organisations and individuals to understand local housing issues and raise awareness of people’s rights.
The role also works in local community settings and with community groups to deliver advice and rights awareness workshops and make sure that people with lived experience of homelessness have opportunities to share their story, give their opinions and participate in the design and delivery of Shelter services. Offering day to day support to volunteers, providing learning, shadowing and mentoring and being a consistent role model for our values are also key aspects of the role.
About you
You are able to listen to, engage and work with individuals and communities, including people with lived experience of homelessness. You will have experience, knowledge of and/or proven ability in housing and homelessness advice and advocacy and are able to progress to specialist level knowledge, as well as the ability to carry out casework related interviews, maintain detailed case records, advise and support clients to make informed decisions.A proven record of delivering group workshops and presentations is essential, as is a collaborative, flexible and professional approach to your work.

Case Work-Navigators undertake an exciting role providing the link between formal health and social care and wider community forms of support. You will have the opportunity to work with clients aged 16 years of age and above, helping to identify ways to improve health, sustain wellbeing and quality of daily living.
You will get to know what sort of services and activities best suit people’s needs using a personalised approach. Researching, planning and mapping how a person connects to the service that’s right for them.
