We are seeking an exceptional advocate with a policy, legal or related digital rights campaigning background to work with us furthering privacy and civil liberties in the UK at one of the UK’s leading rights NGOs. Initially, this role will be principally challenging facial recognition surveillance and scrutinising police surveillance/AI powers.
The right Senior Advocacy Officer will help us to lobby UK Parliament to further privacy and wider rights at a critical time – when a legal framework on police use of facial recognition is very soon to be introduced, and police are expanding their use of AI and new surveillance technologies. About you
You’ll have 3+ years experience in a legal or policy capacity, or in a comparable advocacy environment that relied on your expertise on technology and rights issues – ideally involving facial recognition. You’ll have a strong track record of advocacy success.
You’ll be familiar with key litigation and policy issues in the area. You’ll also have excellent knowledge of British politics and UK parliamentary procedures and strong political contacts to match.
You’ll be at ease working on a strictly non-partisan, cross-party basis and grounding policy analysis in human rights and liberal principles.
You’ll be proactive in pitching policy, litigation and campaign ideas for the organisation to pursue within our work streams.
You’ll be an experienced spokesperson, confident undertaking live and recorded TV and radio interviews, talking to a variety of audiences and representing the organisation and our campaigns.

It offers the chance to build experience across a broad range of digital skills while working alongside colleagues with expertise in content, communications, web and multimedia. You’ll play an important part in keeping our digital channels running smoothly and helping the RSS deliver an engaging experience for more than 8,000 members and a much wider public audience.
The RSS is a 190-year-old organisation with a distinctly modern mission: to make sure data is at the heart of understanding and decision-making. You’ll be joining a team working to communicate that mission through digital channels, support a global professional community and help people engage with some of the most important questions around statistics, data and evidence today.

Digital channels and content delivery are a key part of the RSS offer. They support member engagement, help the Society communicate its work clearly and effectively, and enable staff, members and volunteers to take part in online activity, access information and connect with one another. - Provide first-line IT and AV support to staff, helping to resolve routine issues and escalating more complex or urgent issues promptly when required.
- Support online and face to face meetings involving staff, members and volunteers, including meeting set-up, practical troubleshooting and live support where needed.
- Assist colleagues and users to make effective use of relevant platforms and tools, particularly for online meetings, content-related tasks and routine digital processes.
3. Testing, reporting and systems support. Support the effective running and improvement of digital systems through testing, basic reporting and routine technical administration.
- Carry out testing and report issues clearly, including supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for websites, digital tools and related processes.

- Undertake general administration to support the work of the Digital and Content Team and related activity across the Society.
- Create and maintain user guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other practical documentation to support consistent ways of working.
- Keep records, documents and shared information organised and up to date so that colleagues can work efficiently and consistently.
