We have an opportunity for a Welfare Benefits Advisor to join our Customer Income Team in Bristol.
This is a hybrid working role with a minimum of 2 days per week in the office
The Role
As a Welfare Benefits Advisor, you'll provide our customers with budgeting and welfare benefit advice.
This will include completing Income and Expenditure statements, giving budgeting advice, benefit & grant applications, and signposting for additional support.
You'll be working with both internal and external partners including Housing Benefit, Department of Works and Pensions and independent money, debt or legal advice services
To be successful in this role you'll need:
- An up-to-date working knowledge of the benefits system
- Experience of supporting customers to complete statements and applications
- The ability to work with internal and external partners to achieve the best outcome for the customer
- Experience of supporting vulnerable customers with kindness and empathy
- Effective decision-making skills, a diplomatic and confidential approach and the ability to prioritise a busy workload.
You'll need to travel in this role, so having a car and full driving licence is essential.
In the last four years we have tripled our turnover, moved from delivery at one site to having thirteen outreaches and have doubled the number of clients we are seeing. We are now looking for an enthusiastic, full time Welfare Benefits Worker to build up a much needed Welfare Rights Unit. We have a small unit of volunteers who support clients with appeals, and our next stage is to build a volunteer based form filling service. Whilst holding a small caseload of your own, it is the development of this service that would be your principal task.
To be successful you will need to be a qualified Citizens Advice Adviser, preferably with experience of delivering Benefits casework, and to be able to develop and lead volunteers. If the longer term Welfare Rights Unit project interests you but this post would not be an option for you as it stands, we would also welcome a conversation.

About the role
We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Interim Visiting Caseworker to join our Services & Grants team for 12 months. This home-based role will support clients across the North West of England, with regular travel to meet clients and work with partners.
You will manage a varied caseload, complete in-depth assessments by phone, video call or face to face, and provide practical advice, advocacy and ongoing support to clients experiencing crisis, distress, financial difficulty, disability, long-term health conditions or other complex challenges.
Key responsibilities

- Follow safeguarding, confidentiality, data protection and lone working procedures at all times.
About you
You will have significant experience supporting people in distress or crisis, including people living with disability, long-term health conditions or complex personal circumstances.
You will be confident managing a caseload, assessing needs, prioritising effectively and building trust while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
- Strong knowledge of welfare benefits and client support services.
- Excellent communication, administration and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently from home and travel regularly across the North West.
- Willingness to travel to London at least once a month, and more often where required.
- Experience of grant administration, partnership working, CRM systems or benefit appeals would be advantageous.

The Carer Financial Wellbeing Coordinator will provide day-to-day line management and support to Welfare Benefits Advisors, oversee the quality of financial wellbeing services, and work collaboratively to develop innovative and accessible support for carers.
The role includes providing welfare benefits and financial wellbeing advice, supporting complex cases where appropriate, delivering workshops and training, developing resources, and identifying opportunities to strengthen our support offer.
You will work closely with teams across Carers Support West Sussex to ensure carers receive joined-up support and that financial wellbeing is embedded throughout our services. You will also contribute to service development, impact monitoring and continuous improvement, helping us demonstrate the difference our services make to carers across the county.
The role is a mix of remote/home working and community-based delivery, with travel across West Sussex required to attend meetings, deliver workshops and support carers and partners in local communities.
Key Responsibilities:
• Line Management: Provide day-to-day line management, supervision and support to the Welfare Benefits Advisors, including workload allocation, performance management and development.
• Information & Guidance: Deliver high-quality welfare benefits and financial wellbeing advice to carers, including complex cases where appropriate, taking a holistic approach to financial wellbeing, considering benefits, grants, financial resilience and wider income maximisation.
• Facilitate Learning: Design and deliver group sessions face-to-face in the community and online, videos, resources, workshops and information sessions for carers and deliver training and briefings for CSWS staff and volunteers to build confidence in identifying and responding to carers’ financial concerns.
• Data Recording: Maintain accurate and timely records on CSWS Client Record Management systems to support monitoring, reporting and service improvement.

• Partnership Working: Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to ensure carers receive timely, joined-up support.

About You:

General Information
Big Local Works (BLW) is a community-focused economic support and regeneration charity based in Bermondsey, South East London. We want to help create a thriving, inclusive local economy and community in which everyone can participate.
To make this happen, we maximise local people’s financial and economic wellbeing to reduce poverty and hardship, and give them support to find sustainable, active routes out of poverty, including through employment and enterprise.
We deliver our support in the community through three main services:
· Expert welfare and benefits advice and advocacy for local people experiencing poverty and hardship
· Employability Skills training and coaching to help people access ways of increasing their earned income
· Start-up and enterprise support for clients who wish to start trading on the local ‘Blue Market’
Our current Welfare Benefits Advisor is on leave of absence, so this role is temporary cover until the end of the year. We are looking for someone for an immediate start.
The role of the Welfare Benefits Support and Information officer is the relief of financial need by the provision of free advice, information, support and advocacy for Southwark Residents
Key Tasks include:
· To provide a generalist welfare benefits advice, information and casework service to clients using the services at BLW
· To provide a review of possible benefit entitlements and support clients to make claims, submit forms and applications as appropriate.
· Ensure advice service provided by BLW is effective and efficient, meets best practice and is of a consistently high quality, delivering a high level of customer care and client satisfaction.
· To provide welfare benefits support in a variety of settings i.e. drop-ins and community spaces, to provide advice and information, and welfare benefit checks to ensure individuals have accessible support.
· Help clients understand benefit decisions, represent clients who have been turned down for benefits, deal with reviews, and, where appropriate, prepare for and attend appeals tribunals.
· Maintain detailed case records for the purpose of continuity of casework, information retrieval, statistical monitoring and report preparation.
What you need to bring:
· A good understanding of the Welfare Benefits system to deliver an advice casework service
· Good administration skills and ability to develop own caseload and prioritising work.
· Ability to use IT, Word and Excel in the provision of advice
· Ability to research, analyse and interpret complex information
· Numeracy skills required to understand statistics and check calculations
· Use IT for statistical recording, record keeping and document production.
· Able to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders
· Keep up to date with legislation, policies and procedures and undertake appropriate training.
· Demonstrate commitment to the aims and policies of the BLW’s service.
· Abide by health and safety and safeguarding guidelines and share responsibility for own safety and that of colleagues.
· A good understanding of- and commitment to the aims and principles of the charity and its equal opportunities policies.

About the role
This role will lead our agenda around the role of welfare to support the working age population to maintain good health and support people with long term health conditions or disability when they are unable to work or participate. The Commission for Healthier Working Lives identified a number of issues with welfare support which effectively disincentivise people from accessing and staying in work and the purpose of this role is to make the case for change and point to potential solutions.
The post holder will have a strong understanding of the current welfare agenda, and particularly what this means for people with long term health conditions and disability. Working with the Senior Fellow, you will identify the opportunities to shape better policy, providing decision makers with the evidence and clear recommendations. As well as conducting your own analysis, you will help commission policy research projects from internal and external experts and provide oversight for these projects.
Developing your own profile as an expert, you will also lead or support drafting of external outputs, speak at external events and grow and maintain external stakeholder relationships. The role provides a real opportunity to have a voice to influence the future shape of health and welfare policies and practice.

This is a joint venture between Citizens Advice Woking (CAW) and i-access, the drug and alcohol community service which offers specialist assessment, support, and treatment to people in Surrey who want help with their drug and/or alcohol use. The role is fixed term to the end of March 2027, but it is hoped that it will continue, subject to funding.
We are looking for a highly motivated person to join our specialist team. It is essential that the applicant has recent experience of advising clients, at Citizens Advice or another comparable organisation.
You will need to demonstrate that you can cope with a demanding caseload and that you are able to monitor and manage your own caseload to meet deadlines. The successful candidate will be required to work with i-access service users, either remotely or in person, the role is to provide information, advice, and casework in all areas of generalist advice, but particularly in the areas of welfare benefits, debt, and housing. Patience and empathy are essential.
The i-access adviser will need to travel to the three i-access locations in Guildford, Redhill, and Chertsey as well as to CAW’s office in Woking. It's likely the role will also entail working remotely from home, which will require a confidential work space and reliable Wi-Fi.
We will require the successful candidate to be screened by the DBS. However, a criminal record will not necessarily be a bar to your being able to take up the job.

About the role
