About the role:
Recovery is about more than addressing immediate needs. It is also about having somewhere to belong, opportunities to build confidence and skills, meaningful connections with other people, and the chance to take part in the community around you. As our Recovery and Opportunities Co-ordinator, you’ll help make those opportunities a reality for people experiencing homelessness and multiple disadvantage in our St John's Mansions service.
You’ll develop and coordinate our Recovery and Opportunities programme, creating activities and opportunities that reflect what clients actually want from their services and communities. You’ll work alongside clients, colleagues, volunteers and peer supporters to co-produce activities, build participation and make sure people are supported to get involved in ways that feel meaningful to them. You’ll also help equip others with the confidence, training and resources they need to deliver opportunities effectively.
A big part of the role happens beyond our services. You’ll build strong relationships with community organisations, local residents, statutory and voluntary-sector partners and other opportunities across Islington, opening doors for clients to access volunteering, education, cultural activities and wider community life. You’ll represent Single Homeless Project (SHP) at local forums and events, champion social value across our services and look for creative ways we can contribute positively to the communities our clients are part of.
You’ll also help us understand what is making a difference, monitoring participation and outcomes and using what we learn to strengthen the programme over time. It’s a role with plenty of scope for creativity and initiative, where you can turn relationships, ideas and client feedback into opportunities that reduce isolation, strengthen belonging and help people move forward with greater confidence, independence and purpose.

Community-led research sits at the heart of how High Trees works. Our approach aims to rebalance the role and power that communities have in deciding how research is informed, delivered and used to improve lives for Lambeth residents. Carney’s works differently by providing long-term, consistent, unconditional support with empathy; a safe space and activities including boxing, bike workshops, employment support, studio sessions, mentoring and key work. Inspired by boxing legend Mick Carney, the charity was founded in his name after his passing in 2011, building on work led by our co-founders. We aim to create a “virtuous cycle”: while support is free of charge, we ask that when young people are ready, they channel the positivity they have received into others. As a result, many go on to volunteer, mentor, join our staff team or even set up their own community initiatives. Former participants make up the majority of our workforce. They provide the most authentic role models, people who genuinely understand the challenges our young people face and who show what is possible. For our young people we strive for equality and aim to: Improve Physical and Mental Health; Improve Education, Skills and Employability; Improve Community Engagement; Reduce Offending and Reoffending.
