Allotment Volunteer

Location: Belburn Allotments Darlington

Timing: 3 hours per week, every Thursdays

Training: Volunteers have access to Waythrough’s training platform, LearningKind, and will be asked to complete 1 day Induction Workshop prior to start

The role:

Allotment Volunteers will support with the running of a weekly allotment group. This is an active volunteer role that will include a range of gardening related tasks as well as being a friendly, welcoming face to people who join the group.

Tasks may include:

• Help with setting up and packing away before and after each session
• Providing support and guidance on all things allotment and gardening related; including what to plant when and how to look after the growing plants
• Suggesting how to cook the produce and sharing potential recipes

Personal qualities:

• An interest in gardening and the outdoors
• Knowledge of how to plant, grow and cook seasonal produce
• Professional, Honest and Committed
• Basic IT skills – some eLearning-based training will need to be completed

About Us:

We aim to offer ways for local people with a housing need to secure/maintain accommodation and to live independent. We offer a drop-in service daily for anyone who has a housing need.

Our services include the following:

• Support for all – anyone over the age of 25 who needs support to secure or maintain their accommodation.
• Darlington Intensive mental health team – 18 plus who have a mental health diagnosis and have an intensive housing need.
• Positive Support Pathway – Young persons service where we offer floating support as well as having 9 dispersed units in the Darlington area where YP will be allocated a support worker for the time they reside in their supported accommodation.

We aim to offer ways for local people with mental health challenges to become more independent and confident through gardening. As a charity, our project offers housing solutions for those with mental health having trouble with their housing situation. In addition to our regular support, we provide a gardening allotment group in partnership with First Stop.

Volunteer Branch Organiser

Across the UK, our local branches help disabled people live the lives they choose. Every year, our skilled volunteers respond to thousands of requests, designing and creating bespoke equipment free of charge.

As a Branch Organiser, you’ll play a key role in helping to make sure your local branch runs smoothly and effectively. You’ll recruit, welcome, and support volunteers, ensuring the team’s work meets the needs of disabled people in your area. You’ll bring motivation, leadership, and strong communication and organisational skills to the heart of your branch.

What the role involves

This is a varied role where local needs shape what you’ll be working on, but it often includes:

• Coordinating the activities of our local branch to undertake and meet the needs of referrals in your area
• Organising and chairing the branch meetings
• Leading the branch’s shared responsibility for planning and completing referrals
• Coordinating the recruitment, induction, and ongoing support of new local branch volunteers
• Approving income and expenditure with the other branch bank account signatories and ensuring, with the Treasurer that our financial requirements and policies relating to branches are followed
• Ensuring the branch’s activities comply with policies to keep people safe
• Acting as a key point of contact, maintaining regular communication between volunteers and staff.

What You’ll Do

Bring joy and stimulation to people living with dementia by planning and running creative, engaging activities at our day care centre, that encourage connection, laughter and participation. You’ll us your skills and imagination to lead sessions centred around an activity area of your choice such as music, movement, theatre, storytelling, arts, cooking or gardening.

You will:

· Plan and deliver fun and inclusive activity sessions for day centre members living with dementia

· Adapt activities to suit individual needs and abilities

· Encourage participation and build confidence among members

· Work alongside staff to ensure sessions run safely and smoothly

Skills You’ll Use or Develop

· Creativity and the ability to engage people

• Use your experience, skills or networks to support and strengthen the organisation

The Board meets every two months, in person and online (usually weekday evenings). Between meetings, you may be asked to support areas linked to your skills or interests.

What your role will involve

Being a till volunteer includes all the same responsibilities as a shop volunteer, however, when you’re ready, we’ll provide you with additional training to:

• Talk to customers about Gift Aid and other fundraising initiatives.

Burning Nights CRPS Support is seeking a passionate and creative Content Lead Volunteer to help shape and deliver engaging content that raises awareness of a rare chronic pain condition, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), supports those impacted and strengthens our charity’s voice across multiple platforms.

This is an exciting leadership opportunity to guide and inspire a team of volunteer content writers, oversee content planning and development, and play a key role in delivering our communications strategy. From website articles and member publications to awareness campaigns and digital content, your work will help ensure that people living with CRPS, their families, healthcare professionals and supporters have access to high-quality, accurate and engaging information.

Chair of the Board – cultural leadership, governance, collection development, and strategic advocacy

Peter Scott Gallery Charitable Trust (PSGCT) is the registered charity responsible for the Peter Scott Gallery, a distinctive and valued part of Lancaster Arts and Lancaster University. The Gallery is an Accredited Museum and holds a rich and varied collection spanning thousands of years, from ancient Egypt and Greece to contemporary art, including works by major artists such as Barbara Hepworth, L. S. Lowry and Terry Frost.

Lancaster Arts is an Arts Council England NPO, with a mission rooted in social and environmental justice and a belief in the power of artistic practice to inspire change, provoke critical thinking and create shared experiences. The Gallery plays a vital role in connecting artistic excellence with research, teaching, public engagement and the wider cultural life of the region.

PSGCT is now seeking a new Chair of the Board to provide thoughtful leadership, uphold strong governance, support financial resilience and act as an ambassador for the Gallery and its ambitions. Working closely with the Curator, Director of Lancaster Arts, fellow Trustees, Lancaster Arts Board and university colleagues, the Chair will help ensure the Trust continues to thrive and that the collection is developed, interpreted and shared with ambition and care.

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

• A strong track record of leadership in the cultural sector
• Prior experience as a Trustee, ideally with experience of chairing Boards, committees, meetings or events
• A strategic outlook and with the confidence to convene diverse stakeholders and support active, informed and mutually supportive Board contribution

You will also share Lancaster Arts’ commitment to inclusion, environmental responsibility and socially engaged arts practice, and bring the confidence, networks and enthusiasm to act as an ambassador and connector for the Peter Scott Gallery and Lancaster Arts.

What will you be doing? 

As part of a governing board, you’ll: 

• Set strategic direction, helping to define the college’s mission and goals 

• Hold leadership to account, monitoring finances, performance, and outcomes 

• Ensure governance excellence, making decisions in the best interests of learners and stakeholders 

• Act as a charity trustee, ensuring financial sustainability and legal compliance 

You’ll also engage with senior leaders and external stakeholders, including local employers, regulators, and community partners.

Prior education experience is not required. Full induction and training are provided, with access to DfE-funded development and peer mentoring where needed. 

Time commitment 

Expect to give approximately 1–2 days per month, including: 

• Attending board and committee meetings (in person or remote) 

• Reading papers and preparing questions 

• Participating in training and occasional college visits 

The time commitment is manageable alongside a full-time role – and many employers actively support staff to take on governance roles as part of their professional development. 

Where you’ll be needed 

Some colleges offer remote governance and meetings take place online. This may suit you best, or we may suggest a role where you volunteer on a hybrid basis at a college within a reasonable distance from you. We are recruiting governors for colleges across England, with new opportunities added regularly.

What we need from you

This is a highly flexible role, and you can choose how you’d like to get involved. Opportunities include:

• Face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping at fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, and monitoring collection tins
• Online fundraising – setting up online appeals and writing engaging cat case studies to maximise donations
• Marketing and promotion – spreading the word about fundraising activities via social media and local press
• Administration – processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, and completing Gift Aid paperwork
• Championing our work – helping to develop new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement
• Photography – capturing images of cats in care, cats we’re helping, fundraising events, and all things Cats Protection
