We aim to raise awareness of DPDR, provide up-to date clinically-validated information, signpost people to relevant resources, push for policy change, assist in research studies and enable people living with DPDR to speak with others through our flagship Peer Support Programme to help support each other.
We are supported by a dedicated network of volunteers and ambassadors whose expertise and lived experience are central to what we do.

Help shape the future of the UK's leading LGBT+ young people's charity.
From school bullying and family estrangement to inequality in the workplace, growing up LGBT+ is still unacceptably tough. We want every young person to have the opportunity to thrive and grow up knowing that being LGBT+ is something to be celebrated.
Since our founding, Just Like Us has grown significantly in both scale and impact. Today, 4 in 5 secondary schools and thousands of primaries across the UK engage with our programmes, we have the UK’s largest cohort of LGBT+ volunteers aged 18 to 25, and our annual income exceeds £1 million. We have published landmark research reports that shape public opinion and influence government policy, and built a network of 14,000+ teachers who support LGBT+ inclusive education.
As we enter our next phase of development, we are seeking an exceptional Chair to lead our Board of Trustees and help guide the organisation through a period of continued growth, increasing organisational maturity and evolving opportunities.
This is an opportunity to provide strategic leadership to an ambitious national charity at an exciting point in its development. We are looking for a Chair who can lead our Board with confidence and sound judgement, support our Chief Executive through the next phase of organisational growth, and help ensure we remain financially resilient, well governed and firmly focused on our mission.
While the Chair will be an important ambassador for the charity, this is first and foremost a governance leadership role. We are looking for someone who understands how effective Boards operate; who can foster constructive challenge and collaboration, and who enjoys helping organisations and people realise their potential.
You may already be an experienced Chair, Trustee or Non-Executive Director, or you may bring substantial executive leadership experience and have worked closely with Boards throughout your career. We welcome candidates with good knowledge of charity governance, from across the charity, education, health, public, commercial and wider social impact sectors who can demonstrate strategic leadership and sound judgement.
We are particularly interested in individuals who have experience of supporting organisations through growth and increasing organisational complexity, who understand the importance of balancing ambition with sustainability, and who can act as a trusted partner to both the board and Chief Executive.
A strong external profile and established networks may be valuable in helping us build partnerships and extend our reach, however, we are equally interested in candidates whose strength lies in leading boards, navigating complexity and building high-performing governance.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who shares our commitment to improving the lives of LGBT+ young people. We would particularly welcome applications from candidates with lived experience as an LGBT+ person, recognising the valuable perspective this can bring to the role.
This is an unremunerated voluntary position, with reasonable expenses reimbursed. The expected commitment is approximately two per month, including board meetings, preparation, occasional committee meetings and representing the charity at key events.
If you are excited by the opportunity to help shape the future of an ambitious, values-led organisation making a tangible difference to the lives of LGBT+ young people across the UK, we would be delighted to hear from you.
If you are excited by the opportunity to help shape the future of Just Like Us, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please send your CV and a covering letter setting out your motivation for the role and the experience you would bring as Chair of Trustees, to our email as specified in the recruitment pack, by 17:00 on Friday 21 August 2026

About Us
We are a globally focused non-profit organisation, grounded in Christian values, committed to helping communities grow through education, empowerment, and poverty relief. Our programmes support families, strengthen livelihoods, and build resilience by responding to real community needs.
Through long-term partnerships and sustainable approaches, we create opportunities that encourage self-reliance and deliver lasting impact, helping individuals and families move toward stability, dignity, and a better future.
Why Join Us?
Join Project Yananai and be part of something bigger than a role. As a growing, purpose-driven organisation working across multiple countries, we offer the opportunity to shape meaningful change while developing your career, skills and experience.
Here, your voice matters. Your ideas help shape direction, and your work delivers visible, real-world impact. You’ll collaborate with a diverse, global team, gain exposure to strategic initiatives, and grow through hands-on experience in a dynamic, evolving environment.
We recognise the importance of flexibility. Our approach to working hours supports you to contribute in a way that works alongside your personal and professional commitments, within a collaborative and outcome-focused environment.
If you are motivated by purpose, energised by pace, and want to contribute to something truly meaningful, we’d love to hear from you!
Shape Our Voice. Tell Our Story. Drive Global Impact.
Project Yananai is seeking an exceptional, hands‑on communications leader to join our Global Executive Leadership Team as Director of Communications. This is a rare opportunity to build and execute a global communications strategy from the ground up—developing compelling materials, managing digital platforms, and directly crafting the messages that will secure partnerships, inspire donors, and amplify the stories of communities we serve.
If you are a strategic thinker who is equally comfortable writing a high‑value funding proposal, designing a donor newsletter, and managing a social media campaign—and you thrive in a mission‑driven, fast‑paced environment—this role offers you the platform to shape the voice of a high‑performing global nonprofit.
Our integrated Theory of Change - the Project Yananai Ecosystem - brings together three core activities that work synergistically to create lasting impact: Family Foundations, Sustainable Skills Development, Relief Operations.
This is an opportunity to join a collegial group of highly skilled, specialised, and experienced professionals - each a leader in their respective domain - who are collectively committed to building a high‑performing global nonprofit that meets the highest standards of governance, impact measurement, and operational excellence.
The Role
As Director of Communications, you will be the architect and hands‑on executor of Project Yananai’s global communications strategy. You will ensure that our brand, our story, and our impact are communicated with clarity, consistency, and creativity across all channels - from donor communications and funding proposals to social media, press relations, and internal team updates.
This is not a purely strategic role; you will be expected to lead by doing. You will draft high‑value communications materials yourself, manage digital platforms, and produce content that resonates with diverse audiences - donors, partners, governments, and the communities we serve. You will work closely with the Chief Advancement Officer, the Director of Strategic Partnerships, Director of Funding, the Deputy Chief Advancement Officer, and National Management Teams to ensure that our communications are aligned with fundraising priorities and partnership objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Communications Strategy & Brand Management
- Develop and execute a comprehensive global communications strategy that supports Project Yananai’s mission, Theory of Change, and growth objectives.
- Establish and maintain a strong, consistent brand identity across all channels and materials, ensuring alignment with organisational values and visual identity guidelines.
- Lead the creation of key messaging frameworks, ensuring that our story is compelling, authentic, and tailored to diverse audiences.
Hands‑On Content Creation & Production
- Personally draft and edit high‑value communications materials, including:
- Funding proposals and donor impact reports
- Press releases, media statements, and op‑eds
- Website copy, blog posts, and case studies
- Newsletters, email campaigns, and stewardship communications
- Social media content (LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
- Internal communications (team updates, newsletters, leadership messages)
- Design and produce visual content using design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) to create compelling graphics, infographics, and presentation materials.
- Manage the production of multimedia content, including videos, photography, and audio, in collaboration with program teams and external partners as needed.
Digital Platforms & Tools
- Oversee the organisation’s digital presence, including the website, social media channels, and email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Salesforce Marketing Cloud).
- Manage and optimise content management systems, ensuring that the website is up‑to‑date, user‑friendly, and aligned with SEO best practices.
- Use analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, social media insights) to monitor performance, measure engagement, and inform strategy.
Donor & Partner Communications
- Work closely with the Advancement team to develop compelling communications that support fundraising, partnership development, and donor stewardship.
- Lead the production of high‑quality donor reports, proposals, and pitch decks that articulate impact and build trust.
- Ensure that all donor‑facing materials are consistent, professional, and aligned with regulatory requirements (including Fundraising Regulator standards).
Media Relations & Public Affairs
- Build and maintain relationships with key journalists, media outlets, and sector influencers.
- Draft and distribute press releases, manage media inquiries, and coordinate interviews with senior leadership.
- Identify opportunities for thought leadership, including speaking engagements, conference presentations, and contributed articles.
Internal Communications
- Develop and implement an internal communications strategy that keeps our global team informed, engaged, and aligned with organisational priorities.
- Draft and distribute regular internal updates, including leadership messages, team newsletters, and operational announcements.
- Ensure that National Management Teams have the communications tools and support they need to share local stories and coordinate messaging.
Team Leadership & Capacity Building
- Build and lead a growing communications function, including recruiting, managing, and mentoring staff and volunteers as the team expands.
- Provide training and guidance to colleagues across the organisation on communications best practices, brand consistency, and storytelling.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure that all communications comply with UK charity law, Fundraising Regulator requirements, data protection regulations (UK GDPR), and local laws in our focus countries.
- Maintain accurate records of communications activities and materials.

- Minimum 10 years’ experience in communications, public relations, or marketing, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven track record of developing and executing communications strategies for international organisations, preferably in the non‑profit or development sector.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with demonstrated ability to craft compelling narratives for diverse audiences (donors, media, internal teams).
- Hands‑on experience with design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) and content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Drupal).
- Proficiency with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Salesforce) and social media management tools.

- Proficiency in analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) to measure and optimise performance.
- Highly collaborative, with proven ability to work across cultures and geographies.
- Creative and innovative, with a strong visual eye and ability to produce high‑quality content.
- High integrity, discretion, and alignment with Project Yananai’s mission and values.

The board sets and monitors the strategic direction of the charity, although the implementation of strategy is achieved through the executive team. Vision Action’s constitution allows for up to 12 trustees, who can serve a maximum of three consecutive terms of three years. Vision Action is a company limited by guarantee and the trustees are its legal directors. The trustee role is voluntary, although relevant expenses incurred in the course of fulfilling trustee responsibilities are reimbursable in line with organisational policy.
Trustees are appointed by the Vision Action board of trustees annually at the board meeting following the Annual General Meeting (AGM). The time commitment involved in being a trustee includes attendance at four board meetings per year, one of which is an all-day strategy session. Board meetings are typically held for half a day on a weekday afternoon, with at least half the meetings taking place online. Board papers are circulated in advance for review and preparation.
In addition, trustees are expected to attend the AGM, which is usually held on a weekend, as well as occasional members’ forums or other Vision Action events, which are often arranged alongside board meetings in the evening. Trustees may also be asked to participate in ad hoc meetings or online discussions relating to specific topics. Sub-committee meetings are also held in advance of board meetings, and trustees are also expected to participate in one or more of these groups depending on their expertise and responsibilities. Trustees will also be expected to commit time to undertake a full induction process.
Main tasks
Charity trustees have ultimate responsibility for directing the affairs of the charity and ensuring it is solvent, well-run and delivering the charitable outcomes for the benefit of the public for which it has been set up. Each trustee will be expected to join one of the two sub-committees (Programmes and Research; Fundraising and Finance). The committees meet (in person or remotely) at least four times per year, usually timed with or in advance of the board meetings.
General responsibilities
- Ensure th[JT1] at Vision Action complies with its governing document (i.e. its constitution[JT2] and byelaws), charity law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
- Ensure that Vision Action pursues its objects as defined in its governing document.
- Ensure Vision Action applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects, i.e. it must not spend money on activities which are not included in the objects, however worthwhile they may be.
- Contribute actively to the board’s role in the formulation and review of strategy, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
- Safeguard the good name and values of Vision Action and maintain good relations with its members.

- Strive for Vision Action to reflect the full diversity of society in all its activities.
- Ensure the financial stability of Vision Action.
- Protect and manage the property of Vision Action and ensure the proper investment of its funds.
- Appoint and support key leadership and monitor their performance.
In addition to the above statutory responsibilities, each trustee should attend board meetings and use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board reach sound decisions. This may involve leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, evaluation or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise; and then always upholding the decisions taken by Board. Trustees are also expected to support Vision Action’s fundraising initiatives.
