Job description

Forward Leeds is the alcohol and drug service in Leeds for adults, young people and families. Forward Leeds is delivered by 4 services in partnership, led by Waythrough.

This exciting volunteer role would suit someone with an empathetic, non-judgmental attitude who can build strong working relationships with others. This is a fantastic opportunity to get hands on experience in a drug and alcohol service and put your passion for supporting and advocating for vulnerable people to great use. 

The role:

This role will support service users who are experiencing co-occurring mental health and addiction (COMHAD) issues. The COMHAD team provide specialist care for service users with mental health and addiction support needs.

Tasks may include:

  • Provide support for clients throughout their recovery journey 
  • Provide support for clients with any unmet needs (health, housing, benefits, criminal justice, for example) 
  • Provide suitable emotional support for clients
  • Support staff with providing urine tests for clients
  • Asist with writing up case notes 
  • To develop and knowledge and understanding of an individuals’ recovery plan, and how to collaboratively create one.
  • Adhere to risk management, health and safety guidelines and any relevant policies relating to the role
  • Help to complete comprehensive assessments & any other relevant paperwork
  • Potential to work up to recording information on SystmOne (our internal system) and co-working on a caseload
  • Supporting staff with admin responsibilities such as phoning GPs, making pre-assessment phone calls with clients, phone check ins between assessments, and contacting disengaged clients.
  • Potential to support staff with home visits
  • Discussing blood born virus (BBV) testing with clients and discussing harm reduction advice such as naloxone kits
  • Using SystmOne to record and update service users’ information

Training: Prior to start date, a volunteer is required to attend the one-day induction workshop offered online or in person. Following start date, volunteers have access to our training platform, workday, and may be asked to complete several training modules applicable to their role within their first 3 months.
