Chair of the Board — United St Saviour's Charity
For almost 500 years, we've supported Southwark's communities. Now we're looking for a new Chair to help lead our next chapter — including delivering the RIBA Stirling Prize-winning legacy of Appleby Blue into a bold ten-year strategy.
United St Saviour's Charity is a place-based community investor in Southwark, providing almshouses, grant-funding and community programmes that build resilience and connection across the borough. Over the last decade we've nearly doubled our housing provision and delivered Appleby Blue — a social housing development for older people that went on to win the RIBA Stirling Prize, the UK's most prestigious architecture award.
This role is for you if:
What you'll do
As Chair, you'll lead our Board of Trustees and work in close partnership with our Chief Executive, Martyn Craddock, providing support, guidance and constructive challenge to help the organisation deliver its strategic plan. You'll ensure the charity remains well governed, financially sustainable, and focused on delivering lasting impact for the people of Southwark — while acting as an ambassador for our values, purpose and reputation, including in situations that require urgent decision-making.
You'll be joining at a pivotal moment: we're scaling up our housing development pipeline, delivering a new Community Investment Strategy for 2025–2030, and increasingly being asked to share what we've learned with other boroughs and housing providers as our national influence grows.
Location and time commitment
Based in the London Borough of Southwark — Board and committee meetings take place at our offices and almshouses. This is a voluntary role (reasonable expenses met) requiring approximately 2–3 days a month, including four Board meetings a year, a Strategy and Reflection Day, and membership of one to two committees.
How to apply
Send a CV and covering letter to Alison Benzimra, Director of Strategy and Operations by 14 October 2026, setting out why you're interested and how your skills, experience and background fit what we're looking for. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview with a panel drawn from the Board in 23 November 2026.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

Bite Back is a registered charity in England & Wales (1180969) and Scotland (SC055240). Bite Back is led by young people - not consulted as an afterthought, but led. Over 70+ core youth activists who sit on our Youth Board directly shape our strategy, campaigns, and communications, supported by thousands of young people engaged across our UK networks.
Our staff team of about 30 people works in partnership with our Youth Board, using their professional networks and expertise to create platforms for young leaders to drive systemic change.
Bite Back is overseen by a dedicated Board of Trustees, led by Chair Dr. Dolly van Tulleken.
The Board is responsible for ensuring the charity fulfills its mission, remains strictly youth-led, and maintains robust financial and operational governance. Our Board currently includes experienced professionals across health, education, finance, campaigns, and youth engagement, alongside Youth Trustees who bring essential lived experience to our governance. As part of our commitment to making meaningful progress towards a movement where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered, Bite Back’s DEIB vision statement has been co-developed by Bite Back’s young people, staff and trustees:
A fair food system means our working culture and values - Real, Respectful, Resilient, Fresh and Energetic - reflects this vision. We support our staf , ambassadors and trustees to live Bite Back’s values in their work.
At Bite Back, DEIB means that our people are able to join and navigate the workplace, trusting they’ll be supported to thrive, and that we’ll respond with compassion and make change when things fall short. We recognise the systems of oppression which keep marginalised groups from power, and seek to proactively build equity. We are intentional about representation. We actively recruit under-represented voices, ensuring our staf team and youth board are representative of a wide variety of lived experiences.
We push to improve outcomes for those kept furthest from power, celebrate differences and ensure accessibility is built in, not added on. Our aspiration and intention is that Bite Back is an organisation that recognises, shares and acts on its power and responsibility to young people, employees, community and wider society, driving equity and inclusion in every space, and in every decision.
You can read more about how we approach DEI-B on our website.

● Proactive Inclusion: We actively recruit under-represented voices to our staff team and Board of Trustees, celebrating difference and embedding accessibility into everything we do by design.
● Continuous Improvement: We continually review and embed inclusive practices across our recruitment, organisational culture, campaign priorities, and board governance.

Our Volunteer Receptionist will be the first person that clients will talk to so it is essential that we offer a safe, welcoming and non-judgemental space and give them the right information about the services we offer. Given the demand that we face, volunteers help us do that.
What activities will you be involved in?
As part of our volunteer team, you will work with staff and fellow volunteers to:
Welcome clients to our office and Advocacy Drop-In Service, speaking with them to understand their needs in a professional and compassionate manner
Respond to queries from clients and members of the public via phone and email
Support clients to complete our online referral form
Help clients and referrers understand the services we offer and how to access them
Respond to new referrals and upload them onto our case management system
Contact clients to book appointments and follow up on referrals
Take messages for staff and volunteers and ensure they are passed on promptly
Log incoming mail and post outgoing mail for staff and volunteers
Help gather feedback from clients to support service improvement
Undertake other administrative tasks as required
As you become more experienced, you may be involved in giving basic advice, providing support letters and other duties.
What can you gain from this opportunity?
By volunteering with LRMN, you will:
• Make a difference to the lives of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees living in south-east London
• Be part of a diverse, knowledgeable and proactive team in an organisation that has been running for over 25 years
• Gain experience of admin work in an office environment

• Be provided out of pocket expenses to the value of £6 for lunch per day (if volunteering 4+ hours) & up to £15 travel expenses (when volunteering in the office for 4+ hours)
Is there induction and training?
Yes, we provide a comprehensive induction to all new volunteers. This covers roles and responsibilities, safeguarding, record keeping and use of our client management system (Advice Pro).
You will be provided with the training needed to perform the role and will have the opportunity to join training with the whole LRMN team.
Who are LRMN looking for?
We’re looking for someone who is:
• Passionate about supporting migrants, refugees and asylum seekers

• Excellent at communicating

LRMN is committed to equality and diversity. We pride ourselves on having a diverse team with a range of experiences. We encourage people with lived experience of the asylum and/or immigration system to apply. If you need additional support or adjustments to apply or volunteer, please contact us.

Join the Board of The Glasshouse as we embark on an ambitious new chapter.
The Glasshouse is a world-class venue and charity, home to unforgettable live music experiences, Royal Northern Sinfonia, a centre for music education and a thriving community of artists and music lovers. As we celebrate 20 years and embark on a bold third decade, we’re seeking new Trustees to help shape what comes next.
Every year, more than 2 million people engage with our work through 400+ concerts and gigs, 10,000+ classes and workshops and digital experiences. We’ve contributed £1bn to the UK economy, championed talent development and made music accessible to all.
We know that work histories alone don’t express all of what someone can offer, and we encourage applications from all professional backgrounds. We hope new Trustees might help us strengthen expertise or leadership in:
• Ambitious creative programming.
• Music, creative education and skills.
• Customer experience, marketing, and communications.
• Technological transformation, both creative and organisational.
• Developing commercial and philanthropic income.
• People, culture, and safeguarding.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences, particularly those whose voices are underrepresented on charity boards and within the cultural sector. We believe that different perspectives make us stronger and help us create a future where music is truly for everyone.
Commitment
This is an unpaid voluntary role, as is the case for charity Trustees. Trustees are expected to attend four Board meetings each year, an annual Board away day, and approximately four committee meetings annually, depending on committee membership. Reasonable expenses incurred in undertaking the role will be reimbursed in line with The Glasshouse’s expenses policy.
