Unreal offers support and information to people with lived experience of Depersonalisation and Derealisation (DPDR) - including people experiencing symptoms themselves and their carers, friends and families. We aim to raise awareness of DPDR, provide up-to date clinically-validated information, signpost people to relevant resources, push for policy change, assist in research studies and enable people living with DPDR to speak with others through our flagship Peer Support Programme to help support each other.
We are supported by a dedicated network of volunteers and ambassadors whose expertise and lived experience are central to what we do.
Despite being a small and relatively young charity, officially founded in 2019, we have established ourselves as the leading voice on DPDR in the UK and are proud of what we have achieved.
Unreal enters this next chapter from a position of real strength. We have established ourselves as the leading charity for DPDR in the UK, with a peer support programme that continues to grow in demand, strong relationships with clinicians, policymakers and researchers, and a clear strategic direction.
We have recently set our key priorities for 2026 to 2030, and we are looking for new board members who are excited to help us deliver on that ambition.
This is a significant moment for the charity. We are recruiting for trustees at a time when we have strong foundations, a clear sense of purpose, and real momentum. The people who join us now will help shape the next chapter of Unreal.

Be 18 years of age or older
Not be automatically disqualified under the Charities Act 2011. This includes any person: with undischarged bankruptcy those who has been declared bankrupt; that has entered into an IVA; been disqualified as a company director; or that has certain unspent criminal convictions relating to dishonesty, fraud or contempt of court
Have no safeguarding restrictions that would prevent you from working with vulnerable people

You will be helping your local community understand what a Read Easy group does; how local people can get the reading support they need; and how volunteers can help. At Women for Refugee Women, we support refugee and asylum-seeking women who have fled persecution to rebuild their lives on their own terms.
We have an overarching vision that women who come to the UK in search of safety experience a fair and compassionate asylum system and are supported to feel free, welcome and able to rebuild their lives. We currently work in three main areas:
Power: To support women who have sought asylum to reclaim their power through opportunities to develop new and existing skills, access information and advice, and build confidence and connections.
Influence: To amplify the voices of women who have sought asylum to wide audiences through research, events, creative projects, the arts, social media, print and digital media and other means of communication.

Role Description
Time commitment

The Pastoral and Environmental Network in the Horn of Africa (PENHA) is an African-led and inspired charity, established in 1989. Lay trustee role description
Purpose of role: Lay trustees enhance the knowledge, expertise, judgement, and balance available to the Board of Trustees to ensure a financially sound, healthy, and legally compliant organisation. Their principal assets will be their knowledge and expertise, independence, and the confidence and ability to be a critical friend of the Association.

Following a successful interview and satisfactory references, the lay trustee will be appointed for a three-year term commencing from the Annual Members’ Meeting in September 2026.
Time commitment
The Board of Trustees meets up to five times a year. The dates for board meetings are set 12 months in advance from October to September. Meetings normally take place on Fridays approximately every 8 weeks as either a half-day or full-day meeting at 21 Portland Place, London or via videoconference, but videoconferencing facilities will be available for all meetings.
Trustees are expected to attend each board meeting and to engage in communication between board meetings with staff and board colleagues as required.
Expenses
This role is voluntary and is unremunerated. Trustees will be reimbursed for their expenses for travel, hotel accommodation and subsistence when attending meetings. At Women for Refugee Women (WRW), we support refugee and asylum-seeking women who have fled persecution to rebuild their lives on their own terms.
We have an overarching vision that women who come to the UK in search of safety experience a fair and compassionate asylum system and are supported to feel free, welcome and able to rebuild their lives. We currently work in three main areas:
Power: To support women who have sought asylum to reclaim their power through opportunities to develop new and existing skills, access information and advice, and build confidence and connections.
Influence: To amplify the voices of women who have sought asylum to wide audiences through research, events, creative projects, the arts, social media, print and digital media and other means of communication.
Change: To support women who have sought asylum to influence public perceptions of refugees, and to challenge and change the UK’s asylum system so that it is fair and supportive.
Role Description
Time commitment
2-hour quarterly Board meetings - plus pre-reading of Board papers.
Full day annual strategy planning meeting.
1.5-hour quarterly Finance & HR Committee meetings - plus pre-reading of papers
Ad hoc events (including launches, networking events).
Quarterly supervision with the Co-Directors.
Term
An initial term of 3 years, renewable once up to a maximum of 6 years.
Salary
Trustee roles are voluntary. They are unpaid, though expenses incurred in the role will be reimbursed.

Responsibilities
Ensure WRW operates in line with its governing document and all legal and regulatory requirements
Fulfil the responsibilities of a trustee and company director, always acting in the best interests of the organisation
Lead the Board in setting strategic direction, priorities and goals, and in reviewing organisational performance
Work closely with the Co-Directors to guide and support the organisation’s work, while ensuring clear and appropriate accountability
Shape Board agendas and chair meetings to enable thoughtful discussion, constructive challenge and clear decision-making
Set the tone for Board culture, ensuring it is inclusive, collaborative and grounded in WRW’s values
Work in close partnership with the Co-Chair (where applicable), modelling collaborative and feminist leadership
Contribute your perspective to Board discussions to support informed and balanced decision-making
Ensure strong financial oversight, sustainability and responsible stewardship of resources
Help ensure strong and proportionate governance, systems and controls are in place
Safeguard WRW’s values, reputation and commitment to the women it works alongside
Support Board development, including recruitment, succession planning and maintaining a balance of skills and perspectives
Foster strong, open and respectful relationships between trustees and staff, maintaining appropriate governance boundaries
Represent WRW externally where appropriate, helping to build relationships and uphold its values and reputation

Front of House Volunteer
Information about the role
You’ll be the first point of contact for people coming to Shelter for housing, benefit or debt. This role supports the front-line service in the day-to-day operations of our housing, benefit and debt service in the hub and in our community settings.
Location: Shelter Lancashire Hub, Blackburn Central Library, Town Hall Street, Blackburn. Volunteering activity could be in the Hub or in our community settings.
Availability: Volunteering will take place within our Hub service hours of Monday-Friday, 9am – 5pm

Read Easy provides free, confidential, one to one reading coaching for adults who struggle with reading, through a network of volunteer groups.
Reading Coaches are paired with Readers and meet twice a week to guide them through Read Easy's phonics based Turning Pages programme.
Role of a Reading Coach:
● Developing the literacy skills of an adult Reader who has difficulty with reading
● Meeting with your Reader for two separate half hour sessions each week face to face in an approved venue or remotely on a video call or a combination of both
● Providing non-judgemental literacy support to your Reader
● Utilising your empathy and understanding to support your Reader
● Delivering the phonics based Turning Pages programme with guidance for coaches on every page and using other approved resources
● Keeping records of your meetings
● Liaising with your allocated Coordinator and Literacy Specialist
● Attending Coach meetings approximately every two months
● Working within Read Easy policies and procedures
Skills needed:
● Confident reading skills
● Clear communicator
● Ability to demonstrate empathy and understanding whilst maintaining boundaries
● Ability to talk and listen to the person you coach in a patient, positive, encouraging and purposeful way

The position is suitable for someone who is highly reliable, capable of taking initiative and with a track record of getting things done. You will need to be well-organised, good at building relationships with other members of the leadership team including the Chair, have fluent writing skills and be confident in producing agendas and decision records. You should be computer-literate and preferably have experience of using audio-visual meeting support equipment and desktop publishing software.
