Community Rail Network is a national not-for-profit organisation, which is in the process of applying for charitable status, supporting a growing ‘community rail’ movement, which helps communities get the most from their railways, promotes sustainable and inclusive travel, coordinates volunteering and place-making, and brings people together.
Community rail is made up of 77 community-based organisations, and around 1,300 station volunteer groups and other community-led initiatives around Britain. Their activities range from creative projects for young people, to advising train operators on service improvements, to building travel confidence among marginalised groups, to biodiversity projects at stations, to promoting greener tourism by rail.
Our enthusiastic team of 24 works from home in dispersed locations, but we come together regularly in person and online. About this role, and your main responsibilities
Our current CEO is moving on after nine years in role, leaving the organisation, team and wider movement in a strong and empowered position to deliver on the next phase of our development.
Your opportunity is to lead the organisation, and to deliver on our new five-year strategy setting an ambitious course for the future during a period of major transformation for our railways and the wider transport system. You will ensure that we are:
As CEO, you will lead a passionate and experienced senior leadership team with three direct reports, while working closely with and reporting into our Board, key partners and funders, and ensuing an engaging, empowering, tenacious approach across all we do.
Advocacy of community rail and its benefits will be high on your agenda, and you will be working closely across multiple stakeholders including UK and devolved national governments, regional and local authorities as well as forging collaborative partnerships with like-minded organisations.
Maintaining our community-centric ethos, you will need to ensure we're effective in enabling members to unlock greater value from the railways at a grassroots level, while drawing on their insights to affect wider change. With hundreds of member groups and organisations across Britain delivering life-changing, place-enhancing work, you will have a solid foundation to build on, to take community rail forward and expand our impact in the years ahead.
Last, but not least, you will be responsible for ensuring the strong and effective governance of the organisation, modelling our governing principles, values and behaviours, and ensuring that we have robust financial and resource management in place.

The role will involve extensive travel within Britain as part of building your profile and that of the organisation with central and devolved government in Scotland and Wales, and increasingly with the devolved regions of England.
There is flexibility on location given the requirement to travel and that your office will be home-based. You will need to travel to in-person quarterly team meetings (usually in London or West Yorkshire) and to Board meetings which alternate between online and London. It is expected that travel will be by public transport and easy access to the rail network is therefore required to ensure journeys can be made sustainably.
This is a full-time position, 37 hours per week. We use a flexi-time system with core hours 10am-3pm, and are committed to being a flexible, supportive and understanding employer. This is a permanent position with a probationary period of six months.
Benefits: 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (rising up to 30 days, plus Bank Holidays, in line with long service); pension with employer contribution of 7%; and access to Employee Assistance Programme.

The role

What we are looking for
The ideal candidate will be an experienced and highly organised operations professional with a strong background in membership or customer operations, ideally within a complex or high-volume environment. The successful candidate will bring a deep understanding of CRM systems (preferably Salesforce), payment processes, operational governance and data protection/GDPR, alongside proven experience of improving systems, workflows and cyclical operational processes.

This role is critical to supporting a highly performing group of staff and trustees as we seek to transform lives through the prevention and treatment of blindness. This role will sit within the Business Support Team, which is responsible for the day to day running of the organisation and will be crucial in creating a revised HR strategy and ensuring that the organisation’s compliance with key statutory and regulatory requirements are maintained at all times. The successful postholder will work collaboratively with the Director of Finance and Operations to meet these objectives, but also will have a central role in identifying opportunities for growth within the HR and Governance function to ensure that good practice, wellbeing and compliance work hand in hand with one another and is embedded within the ethos of the organisation for the benefit of its staff and, ultimately, our beneficiaries.

We are looking for someone who has a Level 5 CIPD or equivalent qualification with demonstrable experience in supporting and developing a HR strategy and/or working at an EA level working with senior executives across different sectors. We’re looking for a friendly, organised and proactive Finance Officer to join our small and welcoming team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with detail, likes helping others understand finance processes, and wants their work to genuinely make a difference. This role is only being offered in a full time, permanent capacity.
You’ll be right at the heart of the organisation, supporting our finance and grants work and helping keep things running smoothly behind the scenes. What you’ll be doing
Finance & grants support
Looking after day‑to‑day bookkeeping using Xero, including accurate coding of transactions
Reconciling bank accounts and Barclaycard statements each month
Setting up and maintaining supplier and donor records, including bank details
Supporting colleagues with ApprovalMax, Coretime and timesheet processing
Reviewing staff and volunteer expenses to make sure they follow our policies
Preparing supplier payment runs for review
Helping set up project codes, tracking categories and staff rates
Supporting grants administration, including budget monitoring and donor reporting
Pulling together financial information and evidence for audits and funder reports
Working closely with the Finance Manager on reporting, reconciliations and planning
General & team support

About you
You’re approachable, well‑organised and comfortable working with numbers and systems. You enjoy helping others, take pride in doing things accurately, and are happy juggling a range of tasks. You will be confident, with the ability to seek out and solve problems on your own initiative, whilst working within a supportive framework.
You’ll need:
An AAT Level 2 qualification or equivalent hands‑on finance experience
At least one year’s experience in a finance or accounting role

About the role:
As Interim Executive Director, you'll be deputy to the CEO and a core member of our Senior Leadership Team. Strategy & Leadership
Provide executive leadership to the organisation, fostering a high-performance, inclusive and values-led culture aligned with the charity’s mission.

Hold executive accountability for organisational compliance, risk management, and operational integrity. Act as the lead for the charity in the event of a serious data or H&S incident.
Lead the organisational risk register and risk management, ensuring risks are proactively identified, mitigated, managed and communicated to our board of Trustees and the CEO

Play a key role in planning and delivering the 10-year anniversary event in May 2027.

The Association of Illustrators (AOI) is the UK’s professional body for illustration, supporting illustrators, animators, educators and creative organisations in the UK and internationally. We provide professional guidance, deliver industry events, run the World Illustration Awards, and advocate for a thriving and sustainable illustration industry.
We are currently developing new partnerships and more sustainable income streams to support a growing programme of activity, including mentorship, bursaries and accessibility-focused initiatives.
About the Role
We are seeking a freelance, fixed term Sponsorship & Partnerships Manager to support the development of corporate sponsorship opportunities across AOI programmes.
This is a hands-on role that mixes strategy with outreach. You’ll be identifying partners, starting conversations and helping shape the offer as you go. The successful candidate will work from existing sponsorship materials, refining and adapting them for different audiences, while leading engagement with prospective partners.
The role will prioritise the World Illustration Awards, alongside selected AOI programmes such as mentorship and bursary initiatives, with a focus on building a strong pipeline and turning conversations into real partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
•Refine and tailor existing sponsorship materials for different audiences, sectors and programmes
•Identify and research prospective corporate partners aligned with AOI’s work and community
•Lead targeted outreach to priority prospects, including both warm and cold approaches

•Develop higher-value partnership opportunities, including a headline exhibition sponsor and additional strategic partners aligned with the profile and reach of WIA
Secondary Focus: AOI Mentorship Programme
•Alongside WIA, our mentorship programme is a key priority, with a clear funding target of £10,000 per year, ideally secured through multi-year (minimum 3-year) partnerships
•The focus will be on identifying partners aligned with talent development, education and access, and positioning the mentorship programme as a meaningful, impact-led opportunity.

By the end of the contract, we expect:
