Job Purpose

The Communications Manager will play a leading role in driving Career Ready’s communications activity, working alongside the Head of Communications and colleagues across the charity.

This role will put you at the heart of a range of projects, ensuring that we provide high-quality communications and content that support our programme delivery, stakeholder engagement, and brand awareness.

Role Responsibilities

Stakeholder communications

· Work with the Head of Communications and other internal stakeholders to author and distribute stakeholder communications via relevant channels to support partnership and programme delivery.

· Deliver key colleague communications, including weekly and monthly staff bulletins, and surveys, aligning it to the strategic purpose of the charity and ensuring effective knowledge sharing and staff engagement.

· Support with the delivery of stakeholder marketing campaigns across a range of audiences.

Content and resource production

· Develop and implement a social media content strategy, including day-to-day channel management. 

· Support with the writing, editing, and collation of written content, including case studies, blog content, and news articles.

· Update and produce key publications for our programme delivery, including liaising with colleagues and suppliers to oversee design, content, and production in line with our brand guidelines.

· Work independently and with the Head of Communications and external providers on the creation of creative media content, including photoshoots, graphics, and videos.  

Brand assurance

· Provide advice and guidance to colleagues to ensure all communications are in line with our brand guidelines and tone of voice.

· Help to develop and implement brand assets for use by all colleagues.  

Wider responsibilities

· The post holder will have additional responsibilities and projects set by the Head of Communications, including but not limited to website maintenance, event support, and supporting press and media engagement.

Person Specification

Essential skills and experience:

· Demonstrable experience of working in an internal, fast-paced communications-based role

· Excellent planning and project management skills, able to prioritise and meet deadlines.

· Strong writing, editing, and visual skills.

· Experience of using Adobe design platforms (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).

· Experience of using email distribution platforms (Campaign Monitor or similar).

· Relevant IT skills, including the Office 365 suite.

· Experience of developing and driving forward social media accounts.

Desirable skills and experience:

· Well-developed digital skills to help manage our WordPress website.

· Knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory frameworks including GDPR compliance.

• As brand guardian ensure that the brand’s values, messaging and visual identity are consistently represented across all touchpoints and throughout the organisation, including maintaining high standards of quality for all branded materials and manage the use of all communications suppliers for Turn2us.
• Lead the organisation’s accumulation of insights about stakeholders' experiences of Turn2us and lead the charity’s continued development of the brand’s articulation.
• Support internal stakeholders, including Elizabeth Finn Homes, partners, and funders on the brand’s values, identity, and guidelines through training, inductions and up-to-date brand guidelines.
• Collaboratively develop Turn2us’ marketing and communications strategy and develop an annual calendar of activity in harmony with our work, vision, purpose, values and strategy.
• Develop and manage our traditional and social media presence as well as developing profile through collaboration with key influencers, editors and journalists.
• In partnership with the Head of Supporter Engagement and the Head of Policy and Influence, plan and execute content marketing campaigns, including creating and distributing digital content including blog posts, articles, videos and infographics.
• Plan and lead the delivery of key publications and events including the Annual Report and stakeholder engagement events.
• Define, develop and implement national campaigns aimed at key poverty issues in order to raise awareness of the charity’s services.
• Work in coalition with a range of stakeholders to drive greater impact for awareness and understanding of key issues for people facing financial insecurity.
• Provide inspiring leadership and support to the Communications team, creating a high performing culture to ensure the successful delivery of department and organisational objectives.

Who are Women’s Aid?   

Women’s Aid is the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. We are a federation of over 170 organisations which provide just under 300 local lifesaving services to women and children across England. Purpose of the Senior Communications Officer role:   

As Senior Communications Officer, the successful candidate will be a creative, agile and impactful professional, who will play a pivotal role in shaping Women’s Aid’s communications campaigns, working closely with the Communications Manager and the Head of Media, Brand and Relationships. The successful candidate will take the lead on generating creative, engaging content and ideas for Women’s Aid communications – including major campaign moments and brand awareness. Key duties and responsibilities of the Senior Communications Officer: 

• To be the key communications officer representing the communications team, developing the key messaging of external campaigns, brand-building and communications for the organisation and developing public awareness of these.

• To lead on planning, drafting and implementing a communications plan for Women’s Aid key communications campaigns such as International Women’s Day, 16 Days, as well as wider organisational projects, incorporating press and social media and providing media support as required. 

• To develop relevant media and social media contacts, as well as contacts in the sector, to maximise the reach and coverage of key communications campaigns as well as wider organisational projects. 

• To work with colleagues to ensure the campaigns take an intersectional approach and centres the most marginalised voices. 

• To work with a diverse range of survivor case studies and media spokespeople, including Women’s Aid member organisations, and to ensure they are treated in an appropriate and safe manner.

• To help identify both proactive and reactive media opportunities. 

• To write blogs, news articles and promotional copy for Women’s Aid.

• To proof and typeset publications as required.

• To be part of the communications team out-of-hours on call rota for media calls.

What we are looking for in our Senior Communications Officer: 

• At least two years experience working in communications/journalism/publications or similar. 

• Experience of liaising with a variety of individuals and organisations of all seniorities, internally and externally. 

• Experience of maintaining systems for information storage and retrieval.

• Experience of online communications/websites/social media, including Content Management Systems. 

• Experience delivering public-facing campaigns with a range of stakeholders. 

• Experience in getting effective PR results. 

• Ability to produce high quality written material, for copy writing, copy editing and publicity materials, posters and press releases. 

• Capable of translating complex information into audience-friendly messages. 

• Ability to carry out a range of research and information-gathering activities. 

• IT skills, including accurate data inputting skills, ability to use Microsoft programmes, understanding of Content Management Systems and troubleshooting simple website problems,  and willingness to learn new packages and IT skills as required.

The Head of Lotteries and Gaming will lead the charities Lotteries and Gaming team which has the goal of generating and inspiring support from both new and existing supporters.

Main Responsibilities:

• Develop a clear vision and strategy to deliver sustainable income growth within the Lotteries and Gaming channel.
• Drive and oversee all day-to-day activity around lotteries and gaming, ensuring campaigns are effectively coordinated and that broader teams are enabled to support delivery
• Proactively find ways to increase the impact of the Lottery and Raffle income streams by developing and testing new approaches to player recruitment, retention and engagement
• Take ownership of and oversee day-to-day lottery administration processes
• Working with the Head of Supporter Services ensure an exceptional welcome experience for new supporters and work collaboratively to ensure that ongoing processes for thanking are effective 
• Manage external suppliers ensuring that expected quality and service levels are maintained whilst cultivating a culture of a mutually beneficial partnership.

Duties and responsibilities

Content Planning

• To assist in the creation of communications and content plans to support the Marketing & Engagement Manager in the delivery of key Union marketing activity, such as Welcome Week and election.

Cardiomyopathy UK is a specialist national charity for people affected by cardiomyopathy, a condition that affects the heart muscle.

This is an exciting time to join us as we embark on our new 5-year strategy. We have set ambitious goals to reach more people affected by cardiomyopathy, and this role will play a key part in helping us to achieve them.

We are looking for an experienced and inspiring marketing and communications person to join our Fundraising and Marketing team. You will be working alongside our existing Marketing and Communications Officer, where you will both be responsible for raising the profile of the charity across multiple channels so that more people can access our services and support our work, ensuring that key messages, tone of voice and brand guidelines are implemented effectively and consistently across the charity.

You will have a proven track record of working in marketing and communications, copy writing with excellent attention to detail. This role includes writing news articles and case studies, managing social media and website updates. Working collaboratively across the team, you will work alongside the marketing team to help develop, deliver and co-ordinate an integrated and effective marketing and communications plan.

As a small charity, this post is very much “hands-on” and requires an ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at a time.

About you

About the role

This role will line-manage four direct reports, delivering communications and marketing activity across the organisation. Working closely with the Head of Communications and Marketing, key activities for 2024/25 will include updating our content management system; rolling out a new marketing function within our CRM; delivering agreed communications elements for our 60th anniversary programme; and working with colleagues to ensure all digital marketing activity is integrated, value for money, agile by design and delivers against our strategic priorities.

The Communications Manager leads and oversees THET’s communications function.

This is a new role to deliver projects to raise our profile, enhance our brand visibility, drive engagement, raise income and help us to develop positive relationships with our key stakeholders and audiences.

Key responsibilities, reporting to the Head of Marketing and Communications:

• General: Provide day-to-day marketing and communications support to the wider organisation and to promote our programme delivery and our philanthropy advice offers.
• Web: Regularly review and update existing website content, including responding to requests from across the team.
• Social media: Manage the social media calendar, including sourcing and creating content, across all platforms – in line with our content and marketing strategy.
• Engagement and evaluation: Grow engagement with our channels and evaluate our social media and web activity as well as manage our Google analytics, producing reports as required.
• E-communications: Create e-newsletters, e-bulletins and deliver other email marketing as needed and manage relevant mailing lists in line with GDPR.
• Storytelling: Build our storytelling resources (case studies, photos, film) to enable us to demonstrate the impact of our work and to inspire more donors to support us and groups to apply for grants.
• Copywriting: Create copy as needed for marketing collateral and publications, reports, campaigns and website.
• Press and PR: Research stories, produce press releases and case studies, maintain media lists and record and evaluate media coverage.
• Brand Management: Manage our library of brand assets. Liaise with grant recipients regarding the acknowledgement of our funding and use of our logo. Review and establish a new online Photo Library, ensuring imagery is collected and stored in line with GDPR.
• Printed materials: Manage the design and production of reports and marketing collateral.
• Events: Support the delivery of organisational events and attend relevant external events to promote our programme delivery and our philanthropy advice offers.
• Video editing and creation: Develop our capacity to produce our own video content to support our marketing and communications activities.
• External suppliers: Liaise with printers, web agency, caterers and other suppliers when required.
• Contribute as a team member to the overall development of the Community Foundation.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of Marketing and Communications.

This is a full-time (Monday - Friday working 9am - 5pm) position and with opportunities for hybrid working with some time each week in our office in central Devizes. (Please note during the probation period the successful candidate will be expected to be in the office up to four days a week). Occasional travel throughout Wiltshire and Swindon will be required so the ideal candidate will be based in the county and therefore a driving licence is desirable.
