Inspiring people and communities to age and live well in later life
Age UK Cornwall & The Isles of Scilly is seeking an exceptional Chief Executive to lead one of Cornwall’s most respected charities into its next chapter.
For more than 50 years, we have worked alongside older people across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, helping people to remain independent, connected and able to enjoy later life with dignity, purpose and confidence.
Today, we support more than 150,000 people each year through services spanning information and advice, transport, hospital and home support, community wellbeing, social connection and initiatives delivered in partnership with health, care and voluntary sector organisations.
Following the planned retirement of our Chief Executive in March 2027, we are looking for an inspiring, collaborative and values-led leader to build on strong foundations and help shape our future.
The opportunity
Our next Chief Executive will inherit a financially stable organisation with an excellent reputation, committed colleagues and volunteers, strong governance and significant reach across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
But this is also a role with considerable opportunity ahead.
Cornwall has an ageing population and the environment in which health, care and voluntary organisations operate continues to change. We want Age UK Cornwall & The Isles of Scilly to be at the forefront of that change - not simply responding to need, but helping to shape how people experience later life across our communities.
You will work with our Board, colleagues, volunteers and partners to develop our strategy, strengthen and diversify our income, continue to evolve our services and increase our influence across the wider health and care system.
You will also build strong relationships across the Age UK network, ensuring that Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly contributes to and benefits from national learning, policy, collaboration and opportunities.
The leader we are seeking
We are looking for a leader who combines strategic vision with the credibility to guide a complex, service‑delivery organisation.
You will empower people to thrive, build leadership capacity and unite colleagues, volunteers and partners behind a shared purpose. You will be comfortable operating beyond organisational boundaries and developing influential relationships across health and social care, local government, commissioners, funders, businesses, communities and the wider voluntary sector.
Commercial awareness and financial acumen will be essential. You will understand what it takes to lead a sustainable organisation, diversify income and demonstrate the impact and value of our work.
Above all, you will share our belief that later life should be a time of opportunity, and that older people should have independence, choice and a meaningful voice in the decisions that affect them.
This is more than an opportunity to lead a successful charity. It is an opportunity to influence how Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly supports its ageing population and to lead an organisation with the reach, relationships and ambition to make a lasting difference.
To apply, please submit your CV together with a covering letter outlining your motivation for applying and how your skills, knowledge and experience equip you for the role. Please note that applications without a cover letter will not be considered. Applications should quote AGEUK.
Age UK Cornwall & The Isles of Scilly is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from candidates from all backgrounds and communities.

About the role:
For someone who has spent years moving between the streets, temporary accommodation and services that have not worked for them, having a home of their own can be life changing. But getting the keys is only the beginning. As our Specialist Housing First Worker in Redbridge, you’ll provide the intensive, persistent and highly personalised support people need to make that home feel safe, sustainable and genuinely theirs.
Housing First does things differently. You’ll work alongside people who have experienced repeated homelessness and multiple disadvantage, including people who may be mistrustful of services or have found traditional approaches difficult to engage with. Rather than expecting people to change before they can access housing, you’ll start from the belief that everyone has a right to a home. You’ll build relationships over time, work creatively around barriers and use active engagement and harm reduction approaches to support people towards the goals that matter to them.
Your work will stretch across housing, health, benefits, safeguarding and wider support. You’ll help people prepare for and settle into their accommodation, navigate rent and benefits, manage risks and build greater independence within their community. Just as importantly, you’ll bring together the professionals around each person, advocate firmly when systems get in the way and keep looking for another route when the obvious one has failed. This is a role that calls for sound judgement, patience and real tenacity: knowing when to challenge, when to adapt and how to remain alongside someone through setbacks as well as progress.
You’ll be joining a team committed to delivering Housing First with integrity and giving practitioners the flexibility to respond to people as individuals. You’ll have opportunities to deepen your specialist knowledge, strengthen your partnership working and advocacy skills, and develop your practice through supervision, reflective learning and training.
About you:
- You have experience supporting people who have faced homelessness and multiple disadvantage, and understand how trauma, exclusion and repeated contact with services can affect trust and engagement.
- You understand the principles of Housing First and can translate them into flexible, strengths based and genuinely person led support.
- You’re persistent, creative and solutions focused, able to stay alongside people through setbacks and find different ways forward when traditional approaches have not worked.
- You can assess and manage risk confidently, respond calmly to difficult or rapidly changing situations and use sound professional judgement while keeping safeguarding central.
- You’re a strong advocate and relationship-builder, able to negotiate, challenge appropriately and bring housing providers, statutory services and community partners together around the person you’re supporting.
About us:
We’re London’s leading homelessness charity – and we get things done.
In a city where hundreds are forced into homelessness every day, our work has never been more needed or more challenging. And we’re not shying away. We’re rolling up our sleeves to make change and helping over 10,000 Londoners every year. We prevent homelessness, provide safe places to live and give people the opportunity to rebuild their lives and transform their futures. And we never give up.
We’re here for Londoners wherever they are on their journey. We start with trust, building relationships that help people feel safe, supported, and ready to move forward. Every day, we put people first in everything we do, challenging injustice and barriers that keep people from the safety, stability and opportunity they deserve. We stand alongside people as they rebuild and shape a future that feels their own.
Joining Single Homeless Project means joining a team that’s bold, compassionate and determined to do better for the people we support and for each other. You’ll work alongside colleagues with lived experience, in a space that’s trans-inclusive, disability-friendly, and actively striving to be anti-oppressive and equitable.
We’re not perfect, but we’re real. We listen. We learn. And we push forward, together. Because this isn’t just a job. It’s a chance to lead with empathy, spark change, and help build a London where no one is left behind.

Context
This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in a pioneering programme that could reshape how kinship families are supported across England.
Kinship is undertaking a pilot Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) of Kinship Connected, a Kinship Navigator programme designed to provide intensive, specialist support to kinship carers and help them navigate complex systems.
This is a multi-partner programme involving funders, independent evaluators, participating local authorities, internal delivery teams and kinship carers with lived experience.
Kinship Navigators are at the heart of delivery. You will work directly with kinship carers in the community and in their homes, providing intensive 1-to-1 support and facilitating local support groups, while working closely with local authority partners and other services.
Because the programme forms part of a pilot RCT, maintaining high-quality case records and accurate data collection is critical. Your work will contribute directly to the evidence base about what works for kinship families.
Each Navigator will support around 40 kinship carers over the delivery year, holding a caseload of approximately 20 families at any one time.
You will be part of a wider delivery team including the Programmes Manager, Mobilisation and Delivery Project Manager, research colleagues and other Kinship teams, working together to ensure the programme is delivered ethically, consistently and to a high standard
About the role:
The Kinship Navigator provides intensive, time-limited support to kinship carers through the Kinship Connected programme, a structured six-month intervention designed to help kinship families stabilise placements and access the support they need.
Working directly with kinship carers, you will build trusting relationships while completing structured assessments, goal setting and reviews to help families strengthen support networks and navigate services such as children’s social care, education, health and community support.
This is a community-facing role, working directly with kinship carers in homes, community spaces and through co-location with local authority teams and partner organisations.
The role requires a combination of high-quality relational practice and disciplined case recording. As part of the pilot RCT, accurate documentation of activity, progress and outcomes is essential to ensure the programme can be evaluated and improved.
You will work closely with the Programmes Manager, delivery team, researchers and local authority partners to ensure the programme is delivered consistently, ethically and to a high standard, with a strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in supporting kinship families from all backgrounds.

About School of Hard Knocks
School of Hard Knocks (SOHK) is one of the UK’s leading education charities, working in 29 secondary schools across England, Scotland, and Wales. Using rugby as a key delivery tool, we support young people who are struggling to engage in early secondary education - often because of anxiety, low confidence, disrupted home lives, or behavioural challenges rooted in trauma. For many of the children we support, life has already brought more hardship than most adults experience in a lifetime. Our purpose is clear: to help young people facing complex challenges break the cycle and move towards a safer, stronger, more hopeful future.
The SOHK Schools Programme is a two-year intervention working with cohorts of around 20 pupils from Year 7 through to Year 9. Pupils are selected by the school and are typically among the hardest to reach young people. Each week, we deliver half a day of rugby training and classroom sessions built around our 3Cs framework, covering topics such as growth mindset, goal setting, and decision-making, alongside monthly one-to-one sessions with every pupil. The programme’s impact is evaluated by SOHK staff, teachers, parents, and the pupils themselves.
90% of our participants report feeling more confident and more engaged with school after taking part, with long-term effects on attendance, attainment, and life outcomes. Find out more about our Schools Programme.
Since 2023, SOHK has been proud to partner with Impetus, a charity that invests in and supports organisations helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds succeed. This partnership combines investment with strategic and organisational development support, helping to strengthen our impact and set SOHK up for sustainable growth.
We are proud to be delivering long-term programmes that meaningfully reach hundreds of young people each year - but the societal need is vast. Our ambitious four-year strategic plan targets growth, aiming to bring our impactful programme to hundreds more young people each year.
“Despite the usual challenges that every education or sport for development charity faces, School of Hard Knocks really is unique. It is not so much what we deliver at a programme level (which is of course brilliant) but who we are as a team. If you are a values-led leader and love the idea of ‘team’, then School of Hard Knocks is the place for you.”
- Ken Cowen, Founder and outgoing CEO

DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND RESOURCES
- Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week)
- Contract: Permanent
- Salary: £70,000 - £75,000 depending on experience
- Location: Oxford/Hybrid
Church Mission Society connects with people at the edges – of church, of society, and of our comfort zones – all over the world to help share God’s love in creative ways and see our world made new. None of that is possible without someone making sure the money, the infrastructure and the governance behind it are rock solid. That's this role.
As Director of Finance and Resources, you'll sit on the Senior Leadership Team with genuine breadth of responsibility; financial strategy and management, investments, treasury, risk, legal and regulatory compliance, property and facilities, IT and cyber security, and corporate governance. You'll also hold oversight of CMS' residual pension-related responsibilities following the transfer of its defined-benefit pension liabilities, one of the more technical, long-tail parts of the brief.
It's a lot under one roof, and that's the honest challenge - this isn't a role for someone who wants to specialise in just one thing. You'll move comfortably between a board paper on investment strategy and a decision about the office lease, often in the same week. In return, you get real influence; you'll be a trusted adviser to the CEO and board, four direct reports (Head of Finance, Head of ICT, Facilities Manager and Head of Legal) who need your steer, and a seat at the table where CMS's biggest decisions get made.
We're looking for a qualified accountant with senior finance leadership experience, ideally from a charity, not-for-profit or values-led organisation, who can operate credibly at executive and board level. You'll know your way around financial planning, audit, internal controls and management reporting, and you'll have led teams before.
But the technical skills are only half of it. CMS needs someone with the wisdom to balance prudent stewardship against a sensible appetite for risk, the courage to hold a firm line when it matters, and the humility to lead in a way that lets other people do their best work. Above all, you'll believe that finance exists to serve the mission, not the other way round.
This post carries an Occupational Requirement, under Part 1 of Schedule 9 to the Equality Act 2010, that the postholder is a practising Christian, and all applicants must be wholeheartedly committed to the aims, ethos and values of Church Mission Society, including its Ethos Statement.
Closing date: Monday 12 October 2026
First stage interviews with CMS: Monday 2 November (online)
Second stage interviews with CMS: Monday 9 November (in person)

About the role
This is a technical leadership role, helping deliver the modernisation of the technology that lets our community of over a million people take action every day on the issues they care about. Our enterprise scale tools are being re-built into a modern, modular platform and you’ll be joining the team as a leader in this work
You’ll be the second senior engineer on the team, joining as an equal partner to our existing senior engineer. This role requires an experienced technology leader with a proven track record of delivering great product and engineering outcomes — someone who has already shaped product engineering strategy, architected and engineered great products, developed people and teams, and established engineering standards through the delivery of significant projects at this level.
For many years, we have maintained a spectrum of different in-house products and are now building a modular platform, and your experience of leading on projects or products like this will be extremely valuable to us.
AI first development is central to our operational and development model and this role will offer you the opportunity to work with a team who’ve already proven that we can use AI development tools to deliver for our organisation. We’re looking to you to help us explore and achieve even more.
We’re on a mission to create an elegant, stable and highly effective platform that sits at the core of our mission – to make our country a fairer, more respectful, more sustainable place, and we’re excited to learn how you’ll help with this.
You will have real agency and influence within a small, growing team to try new things and contribute to making a real-world impact. You will help deliver our product roadmap and identify areas for technological innovation that will continue an exciting new chapter of 38 Degrees. Day-to-day, we are working out how to deliver cutting-edge software development in the age of AI and we are excited for the successful candidate to be a core part of this process.
This is a rare opportunity to help redesign a tech stack, develop a best practice AI-enabled software development model with the highest technical standards and deliver a sector-leading set of tools for one of the biggest campaigning organisations in the UK.
There are no formal education requirements for this role. As long as you can show us that you have the skills we don’t mind where you got them from! To be successful in your application you must meet the requirements of this role and answer the questions below which are part of the selection criteria. Without completion of this task your application cannot be considered.
Your background and experience
We are looking for someone with experience leading development, teams, products and technical standards – you’ll be adept at setting direction and bringing others with you. You’re someone who’s accountable and takes ownership, delivering what they promise. You’re always striving to improve and effective at motivating others to follow the standards you set. You will have experience developing software using AI tools, and be brimming with ideas about how a small technology team can make the most of tools like Claude Code to multiply our impact and how you’ll use your influence in the team to make that happen.
You’re someone who understands the discipline around leading and maintaining a product, not just working across technologies. You are creative and curious when it comes to solving business problems, comfortable asking users “why” and understanding what they are trying to achieve, and you enjoy collaborating to identify and deliver the best technical solutions. You understand the non-profit campaigning domain we’re operating in, or you’re excited to learn. You demonstrate the specific technical expertise the role requires while also applying product-outcomes-thinking best practice to work effectively with end users.
You are a patient and clear communicator with non-technical stakeholders, and you’re motivated by achieving real lasting business impact and collaboratively solving business problems with users rather than simply delivering requested features. You’re driven by the opportunity to build best-in-class campaign tools and deliver professional, high-quality work that makes our tech products a joy for users and supporters to interact with.
You are flexible, as comfortable responding to short-notice reactive requests and staying cool-headed in a crisis as you are pushing forward longer-term product development work. You’re eagle-eyed when it comes to tackling technical debt and putting effective processes in place to maintain high-quality development. You’ll be keen to play a key part in shaping the culture and professional standards of our team.
And finally – you’ll need a passion for being part of our mission to make the country a fairer, more respectful, more sustainable place, and a hunger to give our supporters the power to help make that happen.
Full job description: Salary Scale F1 – Senior Developer _ Campaign Technologist

38 Degrees is a community of more than a million people who – in a moment away from their busy days – take small actions on issues they care about, which all add up to something bigger, a movement for a better Britain for everyone who calls our country home.
A Britain where we all get a fair chance in life and where the place we were born, or the area we live in, doesn’t decide that chance. Where we protect our planet and hold those in power to account for doing the same, and where we are treated, and treat one another, with respect.
In the space of a week, millions of supporters could be campaigning on anything from protecting our NHS and stopping cuts to Universal Credit, to saving local green spaces and protecting our democracy.
38 Degrees is fiercely independent. We are primarily funded by small donations from hundreds of thousands of members of the public from all over the UK. This independence means we never have to hold ourselves back from taking on those with power and can truly listen to our supporters.
