About the Role

As Finance Manager, you will own the delivery of financial compliance, reporting and planning for the organisation. Reporting to the COO, you will provide leadership within the finance function, ensuring the accurate and timely production of management accounts, budgets and forecasts. You will focus on technical review, strategic financial analysis, Board reporting and business partnering with senior stakeholders, supporting effective organisational decision-making.

Key responsibilities include:

Management Reporting, Budgeting and Forecasting

• Review and quality-assure monthly management accounts.
• Provide strategic commentary and analysis for the COO and CEO.
• Lead the annual budget process and reforecasting cycle, setting timelines, assumptions and formats; direct the Financial Controller in the preparation of supporting schedules and present final outputs.
• Develop financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, pricing and scenario planning, providing recommendations to the COO and Leadership Team.

Board & Subcommittee Reporting and Governance

• Prepare financial performance, planning and reporting papers for the Board, Audit and Risk Committee, and Leadership Team.

Line Management and Finance Delivery

• Line manage the Financial Controller.
• Manage the relationship with external bookkeeping support.
• Act as the escalation point for complex finance queries.

Financial Control and Systems

• Design and maintain robust financial controls, processes and reconciliations.
• Drive the ongoing development and effective use of Xero to improve efficiency, reporting and quality.
• Ensure tax compliance across VAT, payroll and corporation tax returns.

Statutory Accounts

• Prepare annual statutory accounts (the financial section of the Annual Report).
• Review year-end working papers and analysis, responding to technical and judgement-based audit queries.

Business Partnering

• Act as finance business partner to senior budget holders and Leadership Team members.
• Set standards and frameworks for business partnering delivered by the Financial Controller.
• Meet regularly with senior budget holders to review financial performance, challenge assumptions and support decision-making.
• Lead complex financial analysis and provide advice to support departmental and project decisions.
• Provide financial input into organisational strategy, pricing and business development.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Qualified finance professional (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent)
• Proven experience in leading the delivery of high-quality management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis to support organisational decision-making
• Strong governance and financial control mindset, and proficiency in developing, maintaining and improving financial systems, policies and processes

Finance and Operations Officer – Forward Thinking

Forward Thinking is a small, dynamic charity where every member of staff makes a significant contribution. We are looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership of a varied role, works proactively in a small team and takes pride in supporting the smooth running of the organisation which works  in frontline mediation in conflict zones. 

Duties and Responsibilities

The Finance and Operations Officer plays a central role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of Forward Thinking. This is a varied role comprising approximately two days per week of office administration and operations and one day per week of bookkeeping and finance administration.

The successful candidate will take a hands-on approach to coordinating staff diaries, organising meetings, supporting governance and compliance, maintaining office systems and policies, and managing the charity’s day-to-day financial administration.

You will report directly to the Director of Forward Thinking and will be in regular contact with him to keep him informed of key developments.

To succeed in this role, you will be highly organised, capable of managing multiple priorities, able to work to deadlines and comfortable working independently within a small, collaborative team.

Essential Requirements

The role requires an individual with experience in office administration and bookkeeping, ideally within the charity or voluntary sector.

You will demonstrate the ability to organise meetings at short notice, coordinate diaries, prepare accurate minutes and maintain effective office systems. You will also be responsible for monitoring funding and reporting deadlines, ensuring compliance with the charity’s governing documents, and maintaining key organisational policies including safeguarding, health and safety, insurance and GDPR.

Experience using accounting software (preferably Sage Business Cloud) and strong Excel skills are essential.

3-5 years experience

About the Role/Role and Responsibilities 

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join the Medair UK team as we are seeking a part-time Head of Operations. The post holder will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of Medair UK's finance, HR, IT and governance functions, ensuring robust systems, effective controls, and compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements. They will support the Medair UK Director and Board of Trustees to ensure effective governance and management of the charity in accordance with best practice and ensure a sustainable operational platform is in place to support all Medair UK’s functions. We have an exciting opportunity for a Research and Production Officer to join our team based in Central London. After several years of research and development, we launched Testimony 360 in June 2024, a digital programme for UK secondary schools that uses interactive survivor testimony and virtual reality to innovatively teach about the Holocaust. Through the programme, students can interact with a recorded testimony of a Holocaust survivor, before seeing some of the sites they experienced using virtual reality headsets, all without leaving their classroom.

The successful candidate will serve as a member of the Trust’s Programmes Team, responsible for the research, post-production, testing and maintenance of interactive recorded testimony to ensure fluency and usability in the classroom. They will also be responsible for the ethical representation and engagement with the testimonies. We are looking for an individual with experience in research, with an understanding of the sensitive use of testimony, as well as experience of data management systems and platforms used for interactive testimony. They will have the ability to quickly learn how to use new technologies and programmes. As an expert in Holocaust education, you will also contribute to the successful delivery of our Testimony 360 programme through research and development of new content or digital resources. 

Key Responsibilities

Interactive survivor testimony

• Work on the development of interactive testimony, including any future capture, clipping, annotation, data / metadata input, and Alpha/Beta testing. Throughout testing, lead the AI training process ensuring the system’s accuracy and ensuring the respectful and ethical representation of survivors’ life-stories.
• Maintain regular contact with our partner organisation, the USC Shoah Foundation, including progress updates, shared learning, and required training.
• Support colleagues undertaking training and/or working on supportive post-production.
• Log activity and decisions regarding the post-production editing process, as discussed with members of the Testimony 360 team and/or USC Shoah Foundation.
• Organise and deliver Alpha and Beta testing stages, working directly with students both online and in-person to deliver test sessions and action any necessary follow-up (to ensure learning from test sessions is fed back).
• Develop and manage systems to ensure the maintenance, accuracy, ethics and security of interactive testimonies and ensure consistency of approach across teams.

Delivery

• Plan and deliver any future online Beta testing sessions as part of the development of interactive testimonies, sharing knowledge and expertise and supporting their delivery.
• Work with the Data and Evaluation Manager on external research and evaluation partnerships to assess the impact of Testimony 360 on students and teachers, ensuring findings are shared and used to continuously improve our digital education offers.

The position includes managing pension scheme administration—covering auto-enrolment, contributions, and opt-out processes—and collaborating closely with both the People and Finance teams to maintain accurate employee data and ensure payroll costs are correctly recorded and reported.

Additionally, you will produce monthly payroll reports, assist with financial and audit requirements, and respond to employee payroll queries promptly and professionally. This is a varied role that also offers opportunities to contribute to ad hoc tasks and reporting projects as required by the business.
 

About You:

To be successful as the Payroll Officer you will need to demonstrate proven experience in payroll processing, ideally within a medium to large organisation, along with a strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements. You should possess excellent numerical skills, with the ability to interpret data, perform accurate calculations, and apply sound financial understanding relevant to the position.
