About the role

We're looking for an experienced Finance Manager to take responsibility for Seaview's overall financial management, ensuring our transactions, procedures and records meet internal, charity and legal requirements. You'll work closely with our Service Managers, Honorary Treasurer and Board of Trustees on financial forecasting, business planning and grant applications, and you'll lead the development of budgeting and finance awareness across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Advise trustees on financial policy and prepare annual budgets, costings and appraisals
• Monitor income and expenditure against budget and produce regular management reports
• Liaise with bankers and investment managers and manage cash flow
• Oversee invoicing, fee and grant claims, and Gift Aid submissions
• Manage payroll, PAYE, NI and pension administration
• Maintain fixed asset and balance code schedules
• Review financial systems to minimise the risk of error or fraud and ensure statutory compliance
• Prepare draft statutory accounts in line with the Charities SORP, liaising with our Independent Examiner or auditor
• Provide financial information to support contracts and funding applications
• Line manage and support our Finance Officer, including supervision and appraisals
• Act as Charity Commission correspondent and company secretary for compliance purposes

What we're looking for

Essential:

• Proven experience of budget setting and budget management
• Proven experience producing statutory accounts for charities to a high standard
• A relevant accountancy qualification, or significant experience in management, finance or the voluntary sector
• A genuine understanding of, and commitment to, the culture and ethos in which Seaview operates
• Proven ability to lead a team to achieve outcomes, targets and deadlines

Job description:

The Finance Manager is responsible for leading the organisation’s financial management, planning, reporting and compliance for The Old Market Charitable Trust, as well as its trading subsidiary, TOM Bar Ltd.

As the senior finance professional within the organisation, the postholder will provide strategic financial leadership to the Executive Team and Board, ensuring financial sustainability while supporting artistic ambition and commercial growth.

Strategic Finance & Leadership

• Act as the organisation’s lead finance professional and trusted adviser to the co-CEO’s and Board.
• Lead annual budgeting, business planning and financial forecasting processes.
• Produce long-term financial models to support organisational growth and capital investment decisions.

Head of Finance and Operations, and Company Secretary
Purpose of the Role
The Head of Finance and Operations will be responsible for the financial integrity of the Independent Publishers Guild. They will provide financial and operational input to support the Chief Executive and Trustees’ strategic decisions. The role will include that of Company Secretary.

Duties
Finance

• Assist the IPG Chief Executive and Trustees in developing organisation growth strategies
• Responsible for the IPG budget and financial planning. Review and ensure adherence to the budgets for each functional area within the organisation
• Interpret financial information and provide updates and information as needed
• Ensure best practice to minimise financial risk and ensure that the company's financial practices are in line with statutory regulations and legislation
• Calculate and pay monthly salaries through Xero
• Deal with PAYE/NI and pay HMRC monthly
• Reconcile all bank accounts on at least a monthly basis
• Download sales invoice information from the IPG CRM (iMIS) and post into Xero
• Reconcile credit card transactions
• Reconcile sales figures between the IPG CRM (iMIS) and Xero

• Administer Company Pension Schemes

• Prepare end of year returns, Class 1A return, P60s etc

• Prepare monthly management accounts and ensure that the company’s statutory tax and reporting requirements are met on time

Operations

• Develop and maintain all necessary systems and procedures to ensure effective and efficient financial management within the company
• Create and maintain relationships with service providers and contractors, including banking institutions and investment companies
• Responsible for purchase and disposal of fixed assets for the organisation
• Liaise with BT re phone/broadband contracts
• Oversight of the Company’s HR record keeping

Company Secretary

• Provide a Company Secretarial function, including ensuring that all records are kept up to date at Companies House and the Charity Commission
• Liaise with the Charity Commission and Solicitors to ensure compliance
• Attend Board Meetings
• Attend AGM and present Accounts

Other

• Any other activities required by the Chief Executive and Trustees
• Experience of working for a charity desirable
• Accounting qualifications required (ACCA/ACA/CIMA/ICAS)
• This is a part-time, remote role – approx. one day a week

In this role you are responsible for day-to-day operational activity across both finance and HR functions, working closely with the Finance Officer and reporting to the Head of Finance (with ‘dotted line’ reporting to Director of Finance and Operations in respect of HR activity). 
The role requires effective use of systems to enable efficient processes, with responsibility for data held on the HR system and management of routine employee related processes including recruitment and onboarding. The role also shares responsibility for processing invoices and payments on the finance system, responding to queries from colleagues and 3rd party partners. You will provide support for Head of Finance and Director Finance and Operations where required, including data analysis, reporting and preparation of returns across both finance and HR remits.

Finance Administration

Role Overview:

The role will be carried out in the finance department, which is situated within Battersea Park. The role will be reporting to the Head of Finance. Regular duties would initially consist of, but not be limited to, the below. They will be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure they are in line with development needs. 

Central Services ensuresthe company operates smoothly and assists in working towards Enables strategic direction. Supporting the various services that make up Enable, Central Services consists of small and high output teams including Human Resources, Marcomms, Operations and Finance. Together, these teams make up the foundation of our business, driving our mission and fostering growth and development. 

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

• Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual reporting processes, delivering to the agreed timetable.
• Line manage the Finance Officer, providing guidance, objective setting, appraisal and performance management.
• Prepare and post all month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments and payroll journals.
• Post deferred and accrued income entries in Sage Intacct in line with the organisation’s revenue recognition policy.
• Run monthly depreciation, post fixed asset journals and maintain the fixed asset register.
• Process internal and external recharges.
• Review the bank and credit card reconciliations prepared by the Finance Officer and the debtors control account reconciliation prepared by the Credit Controller.
• Check the trial balance against the management accounts and prepare management accounts narratives and variance commentary for review by the Head of Finance.
• Compile and analyse financial data to create accurate and timely reports for management review.
• Take responsibility for all balance sheet reconciliations other than the debtors control account (prepared by the Credit Controller) and the bank and credit card accounts (prepared by the Finance Officer), ensuring reconciling items are investigated and cleared promptly.
• Review payment runs prepared by the Finance Officer ahead of approval by the Head of Finance, deputising as approver in the Head of Finance’s absence.
• Approve routine accounts receivable credit notes in line with delegated authority; credit notes above the delegated threshold and all write-offs are approved by the Head of Finance.
• Support the Credit Controller with receivables adjustments, write-offs and account queries.
• Apply accounting policies in line with relevant accounting standards and ensure they are followed across the organisation, escalating any issues to the Head of Finance.
• Assist with the preparation of the annual financial statements under the Charities SORP (FRS 102).
• Support the annual audit, preparing working papers and responding to auditor queries.
• Prepare and submit ONS returns.
• Assist with the preparation of budgets, forecasts and cash flow forecasts.
• Business partner with cross-functional teams, providing financial expertise, guidance and training as required.
• Provide recommendations to minimise risk and improve financial performance: identify areas for improvement, propose solutions and implement agreed changes.
• Provide Sage Intacct training and support to non-finance users.
• Act as the first point of contact for junior members of staff with operational and technical queries.

Skills and Experience:

• Qualified Accountant - ACCA/ACA/CIMA.
• Experience operating at Management Accountant level within a charity or not-for-profit environment.
• Knowledge of relevant accounting systems. Strong IT literacy, Microsoft Excel in particular.
• Demonstrable experience of owning a month-end close and full balance sheet reconciliation cycle.
• Strong attention to detail and able to produce work to a high level of accuracy.
• Good problem-solving ability.
• Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information to non-finance colleagues.
• Ability to prioritise and work independently to deadlines.
• Experience of Sage Intacct.
• Knowledge of the Charities SORP (FRS 102) and fund accounting.
• Experience of delivering system training to non-finance users.
• Experience of ONS or other statutory return submissions.

About the Role

We are looking to recruit a permanent Finance Manager to join our busy finance team, working 30-37 hours per week, over a minimum of 4 days.

As Finance Manager, you will:-

• Provide day-to-day operational leadership of the finance team, including supervision, workload coordination, ongoing staff development and continuous improvement of processes and procedures.
• Act as the main link between the Finance Director and the Finance Team, translating strategic direction into clear, effective delivery.
• Lead month-end processes including the preparation of accurate and timely management accounts, maintaining strong balance sheet control and exercising sound judgement on complex financial issues.
• Oversee income, credit control, cashflow, short-term forecasting and the administration of the finance system, ensuring data integrity, high-quality management information and appropriate escalation of risks or pressures.
• Support audit preparation and liaise with external auditors as required.
• Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support financial understanding, compliance and the effective resolution of issues.
• Act as the first point of escalation for operational finance issues, escalating to the Finance Director as appropriate.

About You

We need you to bring:

• AAT Level 4 Qualification or significant equivalent finance experience in a similar role, with responsibility for management accounts, reconciliations and income monitoring.
• Experience coordinating month-end processes and working across multiple income streams, contracts or funding arrangements.
• A methodical, organised approach to prioritising work and managing competing deadlines.
• Strong analytical skills and sound professional judgement, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues, identify financial and organisational risk and escalate issues appropriately.
• Experience supervising, supporting and developing others within a finance setting, with a collaborative leadership style and a commitment to continuous improvement.
• Confidence using financial systems and Microsoft Excel at an intermediate to advanced level.
• A clear commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and to the values of The Advocacy People.

The following attributes are also desirable:-

• Experience working in the voluntary or charitable sector, including knowledge of SORP accounting, year-end accounts and liaison with auditors.
• Experience working with local authority contracts or complex funding environments.
• Part-qualified or fully qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA)

As this role is home based with occasional travel you will need to have access to use of public transport or own car. If using a car, you must have Class 1 or 2 Business Use on your car Insurance. Flexibility with working hours, a good mobile signal and broadband service are essential.

Following the launch of our new strategic approach, our Operations and Membership Lead will provide the operational, financial and administrative backbone of the organisation — keeping our finances and governance on track, and coordinating our network of over 70 member organisations.

Finance, operations and governance (70%) — manage bookkeeping in QuickBooks, coordinate banking, prepare management accounts, support grant financial reporting, maintain internal systems (SharePoint, IT), lead on policy compliance (safeguarding, GDPR, health and safety), and support Board governance and statutory filings.

Membership coordination (30%) — manage the end-to-end membership process from enquiries to renewals, coordinate member surveys and data, and organise our events — quarterly member meetings, roundtables and webinars.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Management Accountant to play a pivotal role in the finance team of a Charity-led group during an exciting phase of growth. Reporting into the Finance & Operations Director, you will take ownership of delivering accurate, timely and insightful management reporting that supports operational performance and strategic decision-making.

Key responsibilities across both companies will include:

The role oversees financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, restricted fund management, audit and year end processes, investment oversight, HR administration, and operational workflows. It also supports the modernisation of financial systems and digital processes to ensure efficiency and good governance.

The Finance Manager liaises with all areas of the Society and acts as the senior financial adviser to the Director, Treasurer, SMT and trustees. They attend and provide reports to the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee and Council, attend SMT meetings as required, and line manage the Finance and Operations Officer. 

Main Responsibilities

Strategic Financial Leadership

• Lead financial strategy, reserves planning, long term forecasting and financial modelling.
• Embed financial insight into organisational decision making across all departments.
• Provide financial analysis and advice to SMT, Director, Treasurer and trustees.
• Support the modernisation of financial systems, digital workflows and reporting structures.

Financial Governance and Compliance

• Ensure compliance with OSCR, HMRC, SORP, VAT, PAYE and statutory reporting requirements.
• Lead statutory submissions including OSCR returns, HMRC filings and annual compliance documentation.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, including segregation of duties, dual authorisation and documented procedures.

• Lead preparation of year end accounts and manage the audit process.

Investment Oversight

• Liaise with investment managers.
• Oversee investment reporting, reserve fund monitoring and alignment with financial strategy.
• Ensure investment movements and dividends are accurately recorded.

Management Reporting

• Produce monthly management accounts, departmental reports, restricted fund reconciliations and projections.
• Provide quarterly financial reports to trustees, including trend analysis, variances and strategic indicators.
• Oversee accuracy and integrity of financial data within Sage and integrated systems.

Budgeting and Forecasting

• Lead annual budgeting with SMT, Director and Treasurer.
• Provide monthly budget monitoring, variance analysis and recommendations for corrective action.
• Support project managers with financial planning for restricted fund applications and reporting.

Restricted Fund Oversight

• Ensure accurate reconciliations, funder aligned reporting and compliance with donor conditions.
• Support fundraising staff with financial information for bids, stewardship and donor reporting.

HR Oversight

• Oversee HR administration delivered by the Finance & Operations Officer.
• Ensure accurate timesheet collation, leave management, staff records and compliance with HR policies.
• Support SMT with HR-related financial planning including salary budgeting and workforce planning.
• Liaise with external HR providers as required.

Operational Oversight

• Oversee procurement, supplier management and administrative workflows.
• Ensure operational systems support efficiency, compliance and digital working.
• Provide oversight of membership financial processes within S360 and ensure financial integration with Sage.

Leadership

• Line manage the Finance & Operations Officer, providing direction, support and professional development.
• Provide financial guidance to SMT, trustees and project leads.
• Attend SMT, Finance, Audit & Risk Committee and other committees as required.
