- Engage directly with major donors, trusts and foundations to cultivate, solicit and steward high-value gifts, working with senior colleagues, Trustees and Campaign Board members as appropriate to maximise outcomes.
- Oversee and direct cultivation and stewardship activity across the capital campaigns team, ensuring delivery of agreed fundraising strategies and a structured and strategic approach to progressing prospects and delivering income targets, while working closely with the wider Development team to ensure a coordinated and consistent approach to donor engagement.
- Expand the philanthropic prospect base by identifying new opportunities and supporting approaches to high‑value or discreet funders.
- Oversee the preparation of high‑quality briefings, materials and follow‑up for senior‑level donor meetings and solicitations.
- Coordinate all donor hospitality activity for the campaign, liaising with colleagues across the Development team and other teams as required, including events, briefings, site visits and other cultivation opportunities.
- Lead the implementation of donor recognition and stewardship frameworks, ensuring consistent, high‑quality supporter experiences.

We're at a pivotal moment. As we close out one organisational strategy and launch a bold new direction, we need someone to rethink our social channels from the ground up. With a combined following of 600k+ across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn, our youth mental health content sparks millions of engagements a year. This role is a rare chance to take a subject impacting 1 in 5 young people under 25 and turn it into content our audiences actively follow, engage with and feel part of. You'll have real strategic aptitude, a talented team of two ready to be led, and a mandate to be bold.
About this role
The Social Media Manager will own and evolve YoungMinds' social media strategy from the ground up, leading a small, passionate team to create standout, community-led content for a highly engaged audience of 600k+. Our channels are increasingly critical to reaching young people and the parents and adults in their lives - and this role sits right at the centre of mobilising them around our new organisational direction, using insight and creative instinct to reach the people who need us most.
You'll take an audience-first, insight-led approach - finding the right tone and format for every platform. Never clinical. Never performative. Always rooted in genuine community and support. You'll work in a true test-and-learn environment, free to experiment, take creative risks and push our social presence further than it's ever gone.
The role will involve:
- Embodying AJEDI values in content creation - prioritising the lived experience of minoritised young people, including Black, racially minoritised and LGBTQ+ young people
- Leading the development of a refreshed social media strategy across YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and emerging platforms
- Turning a sensitive, high-stakes subject into content people actively choose to engage with
- Leading and mentoring a creative team (2 x Social Media Officers, one with a specific focus on video content)
- Championing and safeguarding brand, tone and messaging at every stage
- Collaborating with young people, partners and creators to co-produce authentic stories and campaign
- Overseeing proactive community management, including responding safely to disclosures and safeguarding concerns
- Empowering young people to share their stories safely and confidently
- Working across teams to deliver high-impact content for fundraising, services, marketing and awareness
- Capturing the impact of events and turning real-life stories into content that inspires action
- Leading projects with agencies and internal teams
- Tracking, evaluating and amplifying success through insight
- Overseeing day-to-day social media operations
- Innovating and experimenting to reach, support and inspire young people
Working environment
We are currently working with a hybrid working model, where there is the option of working from home combined with 4-12 days a month of working in the office.
About you
The post holder will have the following:
- Experience shaping and delivering a social media strategy with real strategic ownership
- Experience using excellent written and visual communication and storytelling skills to turn complex, sensitive or systemic issues into engaging content
- Experience managing social media channels on behalf of an organisation, with a following of 100k+
- Experience overseeing community management at scale via a community management platform (e.g. Sprout or equivalent)
- Experience leading and mentoring a team to execute high-quality content and manage competing deadlines
- Ability to deliver compelling, youth-focused content, led by trends and insight
- Ability to take a trauma-informed approach to communication and crisis response
- Candidates will also be assessed on a short written task focused on how they will embody YoungMinds' values around anti-racism, justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in their day-to-day role
We welcome applications from Black and Minoritised, LGBTQ+ groups and those with disabilities, as they are currently under-represented.
YoungMinds is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we therefore expect all staff and volunteers to do the same. We ask all staff to undertake safeguarding training when they join us.

Who We Are

Our new 2025–2030 Strategy sets out a bold vision: A borough recognised for resilience, inclusion and community connection.
