Executive Director, External Affairs

Reporting to the CEO and serving as a member of the Executive Team, this role will bring together policy, advocacy, strategic partnerships, media, communications, philanthropy and income diversification into one coherent external affairs directorate. It is a significant opportunity to shape how the organisation is understood, supported and positioned globally across governments, multilateral institutions, philanthropy, civil society, security and defence audiences, and emerging funding markets.

The Executive Director, External Affairs will lead the organisation’s global voice and external positioning, ensuring the organisation speaks with clarity, authority and impact. They will build high-level partnerships, open new doors, diversify income, strengthen thought leadership and help articulate the relevance of the organisation’s work to humanitarian, security, stabilisation and recovery agendas, while safeguarding the organisation’s humanitarian principles and values.

We are seeking an exceptional senior leader with a strong track record in external affairs, policy, advocacy, partnerships, strategic communications or income generation within a complex international environment. We are looking for a Temporary Policy Advice and Support Officer to provide support to the committees, line managers and senior policy advisers for high profile member body. You will need extensive experience working with and supporting committees with drafting agendas, briefings, and minute taking.

The Role
Support line managers and senior policy advisers within the team, by undertaking research, analysis and draft written reports on policy issues specific to committee, as required
Contribute to the development of guidance and other materials to support members to comply with policy, regulations, legislation etc, as required
Produce drafts of committee updates
Contribute to the development of committee newsletters or other communications with members
Provide support to smooth running of committees within area of responsibility (including arranging meetings, collating/despatching agenda and papers, attending meetings, developing draft minutes for review, recording and following up completion to report back to committee) as required

The Candidate
Ability to grasp new policy concepts quickly to undertake research and analysis of policy issues
Ability to draft minutes, policy reports and briefings for review by line manager and/or relevant committee lead
Ability to provide support to ensure smooth running of committees
Ability to work flexibly, picking up new areas of work and responding to areas of need in a positive manner
Quick thinker ability to respond decisively to issues on the day of committee meetings (eg. IT failure, catering issues etc)

What the job involves

As Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, you’ll play a central role in helping us understand and demonstrate the real difference our work makes. You’ll manage the development and delivery of monitoring and evaluation frameworks for our Health Equity, Services and Improvement directorate, ensuring we can track our progress against Prostate Cancer UK’s new strategy with confidence. As part of the Data and Evidence team, you’ll bring together data and insight to tell a clear story about our impact for men and the wider healthcare system.

In this role, you’ll design practical, meaningful ways to measure success, from shaping our key performance indicators to strengthening how we collect and use data over time. You’ll draw on information from multiple sources to build a joined-up view of our activity, and use clear, engaging data visualisation to bring your findings to life. You’ll also support reporting to boards and committees, presenting evidence in a way that is accessible, relevant and supports good decision-making.

You’ll work closely with colleagues across the organisation, helping them evaluate their work and feel more confident using data in their day-to-day roles. By championing a culture of evidence-based decision making and continuous learning, you’ll help teams see the value of monitoring and evaluation and use it to improve what they do.

Alongside this, you’ll keep a strong overview of activity across the directorate, using data and insight to spot trends, highlight opportunities and drive improvements. You’ll also contribute to the ongoing development of our data and insight approach, helping us strengthen the quality, consistency and impact of how we evaluate and report on our work.

What we want from you

You’ll bring strong expertise in monitoring, evaluation and learning, with experience of applying approaches such as theory of change, outcome harvesting and logic models in practice. You’ll be skilled at evaluating public health or similar programmes, with a strong understanding of impact measurement and the ability to work with both qualitative and quantitative data. Experience in data visualisation is important, and familiarity with tools like Tableau or Power BI would be a bonus.

You’ll be comfortable designing surveys and using a range of data collection techniques, alongside a good understanding of UK health data sources. Just as importantly, you’ll be able to communicate complex findings in a clear and engaging way, helping others understand what the data is telling us and why it matters.

You’ll be well organised, with strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills, able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. You’ll enjoy working collaboratively across teams, building strong relationships and supporting colleagues to use data with confidence in their day-to-day work.

Purpose of the role

As Deputy CEO of Leeds Older People’s Forum, you will play a pivotal leadership role in driving our mission to ensure older people in Leeds have the opportunities, choices and support they need to live the life they want. 

Working closely with the CEO, you will shape organisational strategy, influence policy and system change, and build strong partnerships with decision‑makers, funders and our third sector member organisations. 

What’s involved? 

The Deputy CEO will support the CEO drive LOPF’s mission and lead delivery of its key outcomes for older people in Leeds. The role combines strategy, influence and leadership, including:

• Shaping and delivering LOPF strategy and developing new ideas that improve the lives of older people.

• Influencing policy and system change by building strong relationships with decision‑makers and ensuring the third sector has a voice at city‑wide boards.

• Supporting and strengthening our third sector members through learning, grant‑making, network support and helping members access funding.

About Adolescent Health Study

The Adolescent Health Study (AHS) is an ambitious new UKRI-funded initiative to establish a prospective, longitudinal population study that will generate a globally leading open science data platform and research resource. AHS aims to recruit at least 100,000 young people aged eight to 18 years from across the UK and to follow their mental and physical health and wellbeing over at least 10 years. It plans to collect data through questions and measures; to obtain bio-samples for a wide range of genomic and other high-throughput assays; and to capture linked data relevant to health and wellbeing from participants’ health, education and other administrative records. Recruitment will take place mainly through schools. There will be a strong emphasis on engaging with and involving young people, schools, parents and other relevant stakeholders in the design and delivery of the study, as well as on including young people that represent as wide as possible a range of backgrounds, experiences and characteristics. AHS will focus on enabling a wide range of research, including studies of the critical biological and social developments that occur during the transition from childhood to adulthood and the determinants of both mental and physical health and wellbeing in adolescents and young adults.

Purpose of the post

The HR Officer plays a key role in delivering an effective, professional, and compliant HR service across the organisation. Supporting both operational HR processes and employee experience, the post holder will contribute to attracting, developing, and retaining talent in a collaborative and values-driven research environment.

Main responsibilities

HR Operations & Administration Support

• Lead recruitment campaigns in consultation with hiring managers, including drafting job adverts, short-listing and coordinating interviews.
• Manage employee life cycle process, including background checks, onboarding and offboarding.
• Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in compliance with GDPR and organisational policies.
• Administer HR systems, contracts, and employment documentation.
• Manage relationship with 3rd party suppliers including HR consultancy and DBS check providers.
• Support payroll preparation including monthly absence reporting and ensuring accurate data submission and coordination with Finance/Payroll.
• Support the wider central administrative team as required.

 Employee Relations

• Provide first-line HR advice to managers and staff on policies, procedures, and employment matters.
• Support casework relating to absence, performance, disciplinary, and grievance processes.
• Support managers and the COO with complex people cases, working with the external HR partner as required.
• Promote a positive and inclusive working culture aligned with the organisation’s values.

Learning & Development

• Coordinate training activities and support professional development initiatives for research and support staff.
• Some delivery of internal people-related training
• Assist in identifying skills gaps and contributing to workforce development plans.

Policy & Compliance

• Ensure HR practices comply with employment legislation, charity sector regulations, and best practice.
• Monitor and assist with the development, review, and implementation of HR policies and procedures, including handbook updates.
• Support equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) initiatives across the organisation.

HR Projects & Continuous Improvement

• Contribute to HR projects such as staff engagement, wellbeing initiatives, and organisational development.
• Support the implementation of HR systems improvements and process efficiencies.
• Collect and analyse HR data to inform decision-making and reporting.

Knowledge, skills and experience 

Essential

1. Experience in an HR administrative or officer-level role.
2. Sound knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
3. CIPD Level 3 or equivalent.
4. Experience of supporting payroll and finance processes.
5. Proven ability to establish and evolve people processes in a growing organisation.
6. Proficiency in HR systems, such as BreatheHR or equivalent, and Microsoft Office applications.
7. Experience of working in organisations with multiple staffing arrangements i.e. direct employees, secondees, contractors etc.
8. Strong organisational and administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.
9. Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
10. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Desirable

1. CIPD Level 5 qualification (or working towards).
2. Experience working in the charity, academic, or research sector.
3. Experience supporting EDI and wellbeing initiatives.
4. Familiarity with public funded and/or project-based staffing environments.
5. Experience supporting or negotiating secondment arrangements, particularly within academic, charity or research environments.

Dimensions

• This is a full-time role, 37.5 hours per week, offered initially as an 18-month fixed-term contract with potential route to permanency.
• Flexible working across several geographical locations in the UK.  Travel may be required to AHS locations and partner organisations.
• AHS is a national organisation, and our activities take place across the UK.

• Excellent stewardship of major donor and corporate relationships, including keeping donors up to date with Rosa’s work through events and meetings, written reports and newsletters
• Manage a portfolio of individual donors, major donors and corporates
• Coordinate and deliver successful in person donor engagement events, currently twice a year with one large event in March and a smaller event in November
• Build a strong prospect pipeline of corporate donors by undertaking prospect research and contributing to new business pitches
• Undertake prospect research and compelling donor briefings for new major donors and new giving circle members (Thrive Network)
• Maintain high quality CRM records to record each stage of donors’ journeys and supporting the transition to a new CRM (Beacon)

Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Role Purpose

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) provides strategic and operational leadership across all frontline services, accommodation provision, organisational infrastructure, and compliance functions within the charity.

The COO is responsible for ensuring safe, trauma-informed, financially sustainable, and outcomes-focused delivery for individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, health exclusion, addiction, and crisis.

The role leads operations across the charity’s accommodation portfolio, including winter shelter provision, general needs accommodation, supported accommodation, and intensively supported housing. The COO also oversees the operational platform of the charity’s support programmes, including a community café, community supermarket, crisis drop-in provision, and integrated health clinics.

Working collaboratively with the CEO, Board, statutory agencies, housing provider partners, and wider stakeholders, the COO plays a key leadership role in shaping organisational strategy, strengthening operational systems, embedding trauma-informed practice, and developing innovative models of support that improve long-term outcomes for individuals experiencing multiple disadvantage.

The Public Interest News Foundation (PINF) is the UK’s first charity that exists to promote high-quality journalism. Last year, we launched an ambitious ten-year mission to regenerate local news in the UK.
