Practice development lead jobs
For over 100 years, we have been the central fundraiser and grant maker for maritime welfare. As a truly independent charity, we always put seafarer welfare first.
We’re looking for someone who genuinely cares about people, someone who lights up at the idea of looking after supporters and understands just how important thoughtful donor care is to meaningful fundraising. If you’re enthusiastic, detail‑driven, and love building relationships, you’ll feel right at home with us.
As our Fundraising Officer, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our fundraising engine running smoothly. This isn’t a marketing job, this is real, hands‑on fundraising. You’ll be the person who ensures our donors feel valued, seen, and appreciated. You’ll work across multiple income streams, supporting everything from donation processing to stewardship journeys, helping us maintain the high standards our supporters deserve.
You’ll be joining a small, ambitious, and incredibly committed Development team. A team that truly believes in the work we do and the people we do it for. You’ll need to be comfortable talking to supporters, nurturing relationships, managing details accurately, and getting stuck in wherever needed. If you have a natural warmth, a positive mindset, and pride in doing things well, you’ll thrive here.
Most importantly, you’ll be part of a charity with a unique role in the maritime world, one with a long history, a strong reputation, and a real, measurable impact on the lives of seafarers. This is a brilliant opportunity to grow, learn, and take meaningful steps forward in your fundraising career, surrounded by people who are just as dedicated and driven as you are.
If you’re ready to bring your passion, energy, and commitment to a role where every interaction matters, we’d love to hear from you.
You'll be joining a diverse, friendly, committed team of about 20 staff. We work on a hybrid basis, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office. There are regular organisation-wide staff meetings at the office to ensure opportunities for people to get to know each other face-to-face, plus smaller departmental team meetings, and cross-organisational working groups.
Our mission is to tackle the disadvantages of seafaring life by leading collaboration, funding and advocacy to improve seafarers’ lives.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
We are looking to recruit an experienced HR Advisor to provide comprehensive HR support. You’ll play a key role in supporting the employee experience, providing top-notch support to all teams in the organisation and be comfortable working with all levels of seniority.
Experience of employee relations will be pivotal in supporting the organisation as we transition to a unionised environment. As a trusted advisor, you will have sound employment law knowledge and be comfortable with challenging conversations, supporting managers with any issues such as sickness absence, capability or a disciplinary procedure.
You’ll ensure that recruitment costs are kept to a minimum, work with recruitment managers to ensure vacancies are advertised following internal processes and ensure employment contracts are finalised before onboarding starts. You'll also be happy using systems to assign training to new joiners and to existing staff, keeping records of courses and ensuring that safeguarding training is completed.
Bringing your experience of HR and a willingness and enthusiasm to the role, you will proactively seek to continually improve yourself and the role, championing a culture of service excellence, as well as taking ownership and accountability of your workload.
Please refer to the job description for further information. If you have any questions please email us.

About the Role
Oak is entering a critical new phase. Over the next three years, we will support the implementation of a revised national curriculum, deepen adoption of our digital products across schools, and play a leading role in shaping the safe and ethical use of AI in education.
We are now seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the technology that underpins this work.
This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for Oak’s engineering strategy, technical architecture and platform delivery. You will lead engineering teams to build and operate reliable, secure and scalable systems that support teachers at scale and enable innovation across the education sector.
You’ll work closely with product, design, data, teachers and content leaders to ensure our technology choices are grounded in real classroom needs, strong pedagogy and value for money, while also pushing forward what’s possible with the latest approaches and tools. You’ll empower teams to get solutions built and products and features shipped.
We welcome applications from candidates with senior engineering leadership experience across technology, digital or public service environments, including those who have not previously worked in education.
If you’re excited by the challenge of building dependable systems that quietly do the heavy lifting for teachers, and shaping how safe AI is used across the sector, we’d love to hear from you.
What You’ll Be Doing
-
Develop and manage a high-performing Engineering department, leveraging internal and/or external relationships
-
Manage the Engineering department budget (minimum of 6-figures)
-
Accountable for the department's delivery against division and organisation-wide KPIs.
-
Set and lead Oak’s technical direction, ensuring secure, scalable and high-performing platforms aligned with organisational and product priorities and public sector digital standards.
-
Oversee software engineering, architecture, embedding engineering excellence, operational reliability, strong SDLC practice and continuous improvement, and ensuring compliance with relevant digital, security and data standards (including GDS and GDPR).
-
Lead the implementation of data-intensive and emerging technologies (including AI/ML), ensuring production-ready systems and compliance with Oak’s technical and safety requirements.
-
Member of the Senior Leadership Team.
-
Lead the strategy and planning, and model the culture of the organisation.
-
Work in cross-functional and product-oriented squads with colleagues from across the organisation, as required.
-
Deputise for the CEO and take on other general responsibilities as required.
What We’re Looking For
-
3+ years’ experience overseeing engineering or technical capabilities of a department or division.
-
Experience of being part of a senior or wider leadership team.
-
Experience of recruiting, developing and managing a high-performing department
-
Experience of managing a 6-figure budget and ensuring value for money.
-
Extensive experience delivering secure, scalable, high-quality digital services in production environments.
-
Experience implementing and operating data-intensive or emerging technologies (e.g., AI/ML), ensuring safe, reliable and responsible deployment.
-
Experience leading the evolution of engineering systems over time, including evaluating new technologies, scaling cloud-based services, and ensuring high availability, CI/CD maturity and long-term platform resilience.
-
Experience having deployed production ready AI technology (desirable).
-
You will be comfortable working at pace, with a range of digital systems (including proprietary ones as required) and you will continuously look at ways that the team can keep getting better. You will be excellent at working as part of a remote team, building relationships and managing your time effectively.
Our Benefits

Closing date: 23:59 on Wednesday, 4 February 2026. We’ll be reviewing applications as they come in, and may close the role early
If this sounds like the kind of role and team where you could do your life’s best work, we’d love to hear from you.
Next Steps
We aim to run a fair, inclusive process that helps people show what they can really do.
Stage 1: Apply (via Applied)
You’ll apply through the Applied platform. Your application will be scored anonymously against the published criteria and reviewed by more than one assessor.
Stage 2: Short practical exercise (video)
If you progress, we’ll send you a short brief and a few suggested technologies you could use. You’ll then have time to go away, create a simple prototype or generate an insight in response to the brief, and record a short video walking us through what you have produced and why.
For this role, we will be looking for evidence of technical judgement and engineering thinking, for example, how you approach system design, reliability, security, data or AI safety, rather than production quality or polished demos. The exercise is designed to be accessible to candidates who lead engineering teams and may not code day to day.
Videos will be scored by a small group of assessors using clear criteria.
Stage 3: Interview
A shortlist of candidates will be invited to a competency-based interview, assessed against the criteria set out in the job description.
We’ll share full details, timelines and support as you progress. We’re happy to make reasonable adjustments at any stage.
Use of AI in applications
You can use AI to help draft your answers, but remember, we are looking for your experiences and insights, not generic or AI-generated responses.
We score for specific, real examples and your own judgement. If your answers read like AI output or could describe anyone’s experience, they will score poorly.
We are receiving excellent responses to our job advertisements. This may lead us to close the role early, so if you are considering applying, then please get your application in early to avoid missing out.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
Actively Interviewing
This organisation is scheduling interviews as applications come in. They're ready to hire as soon as they find the right person. Don't miss your opportunity, apply now!

About us
Established in 2021, Opportunity Green is a fast-growing not-for-profit organisation that helps to identify and unlock opportunities to tackle climate change. We build ambitious coalitions, support climate vulnerable countries in international negotiations and find innovative legal pathways to fight climate change.
The Communications team currently includes four people who work across the full breadth of Opportunity Green’s work, making sure our messages are communicated clearly to the right audiences at the right time. We are now looking for a Digital and SEO Manager to develop and deliver Opportunity Green’s digital and SEO strategy, ensuring our online presence effectively reaches, engages and inspires audiences.
What’s the role?
The Digital and SEO Manager will report to Opportunity Green’s Communications Director. By harnessing data-driven insights and optimising our digital platforms, the Digital and SEO Manager will strengthen our communications impact and support the organisation’s mission to fill the gaps that others miss on climate change. You will also support the Comms Director in managing the communications team and their team projects, including direct line management of a multimedia-focused team member.
This is a new role to OG and it comes at an exciting time, when we are about to launch our new website. You will play a pivotal part in helping our website content reach the right audiences, monitoring its performance and developing it even further.
Our Communications team supports all the workstreams and projects at Opportunity Green, spanning aviation, shipping, steel, agriculture, strategic litigation, climate justice, company coalitions, external partnerships and The SASHA Coalition, which is facilitated by OG and has a separate online presence. You will therefore need to be a great collaborator who is used to multitasking, a quick thinker and able to respond to situations as they arise. As the only employee dedicated to digital, you will be a strategic thinker who can shape our approach to emerging digital trends, while also being comfortable implementing the ideas you develop.
About the candidate
We are looking for a candidate with:
-
A passion for using their digital skills and SEO knowledge to tackle climate change.
-
Proven expertise in digital analysis and insights, with a strong track record of producing data-driven reports and actionable recommendations across a range of platforms.
-
Demonstrated experience in SEO account management and web development project management.
Desirable skills and experience:
We do not expect any candidate to have all skills listed below but rather we look for transferable skills and potential as well as past experience.
-
Genuine passion for using digital skills to tackle climate change and commitment to Opportunity Green's mission and values.
-
Advanced knowledge of digital performance tools like Google Analytics, SEMrush, Power BI, Google Search Console, Google Tag Manager and Mailchimp.
-
Experience of running ad campaigns in Google Ads.
-
Hands-on familiarity with web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and CMS platforms including Wordpress and SquareSpace, and ability to integrate new features and functionality.
-
Strategic and analytical thinker who is a natural problem solver.
-
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
-
Demonstrated experience of line management.
-
Committed to collaboration, curiosity and continuous learning.
Diversity and inclusion
Diversity and inclusion are important principles at Opportunity Green. We believe that diversity and inclusion make teams stronger and more effective. We are committed to fair and equitable employment practices, and we are striving to ensure that a variety of voices and experiences are included in our organisation. Our commitment to diversity and our parental leave policy are available to view on our website, here.
We will consider all applicants who meet most or all of the essential competencies regardless of their identity or background. That said, we know that diverse candidates may be reluctant to apply for jobs where they don’t meet 100% of the criteria outlined in the job description. We encourage anyone to apply who can demonstrate the variety of skills and experiences relevant to meeting the requirements of this role.
We recognise that many diverse experiences and perspectives are not represented in our current workforce, and are seriously underrepresented across the non-profit sector in general, and as such, we particularly welcome applications from people with disabilities, non-white people, people from marginalised backgrounds, and members of the LGBTQIA+ communities. We will use positive action under the Equality Act 2010 to appoint from these groups if two candidates are equally qualified.
To learn more about our application process and receive advice on how to prepare in such a way as to showcase your full potential, please find our Application Guide.
What we offer
The successful candidate will be offered an annual salary of £50,000 plus 10% employer-contributed pension. Please note that Opportunity Green has fixed salary scales, with the possibility of step increases with strong performance. When hiring we always hire at the bottom of a band and do not enter negotiations with new employees as negotiations have been historically shown to disadvantage women and minorities.
We take our team’s wellbeing and professional development seriously. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer:
-
A commitment to work/life balance, with a 4-day work week at 28 hours.
-
A generous holiday entitlement of 20 days’ holiday per year, plus bank holidays and office closure between Christmas and New Year that does not count towards your holiday entitlement (and expectation that you fully disconnect when taking time off).
-
A market-leading pension of 10%.
-
A progressive family leave policy, including 26 weeks’ paid leave for both parents, as well as other support.
-
Lots of flexibility within a hybrid working arrangement, with regular opportunities to come together as a team.
-
Support for your professional development as part of Opportunity Green, with a budget to support your learning & development plus opportunities to lead projects, publish content, learn from experts, work directly with policymakers and stakeholders, and take part in conferences and events.
However, it is important to note that while this role is permanent, employment is always reliant on Opportunity Green continuing to receive philanthropic support from our funders, which we expect every member of the team to play their part in working towards.
