The Berkshire and Hampshire Borders (BHB) Methodist Circuit is a network of twenty-five churches across western Berkshire and northern Hampshire, united by a vision to proclaim God's love as a justice-seeking community. As Operations Manager, you'll be the backbone supporting our work. Working with the Leadership Team, you'll coordinate the operational infrastructure that keeps twenty-five autonomous churches running — from property and finance to safeguarding and compliance — empowering churches and outreach staff to deliver high-quality support to church members and vulnerable people.

The Role
You'll provide operational guidance and support to the Circuit Leadership Team and Circuit Meeting (Trustees), attending meetings and preparing reports on governance matters. You'll manage the Circuit Finance Officer, ensuring sound accounting practices, financial controls, and reporting. Across property, you'll oversee 19 houses — coordinating quinquennial inspections, maintenance plans, manse preparation for incoming ministers, externally managed letting of surplus properties, and professional appointments for sales and purchases. You'll also support energy and telecoms contract negotiations.

In safeguarding, you'll co-lead the Circuit Safeguarding Team, coordinate training, and maintain records of DBS checks. For health and safety, you'll guide churches on policies, risk assessments, and fire safety, with professional support as needed. On EDI, you'll maintain awareness of Methodist policy, coordinate training, and promote inclusive practice. You'll line manage the Administration Finance Officer and Administration Officer.

Key Details
Permanent role, £45,000–£55,000, 37.5 hours per week based in Reading, Berkshire with occasional evening or weekend working and travel across the area. 33 days annual leave including public holidays, contributory pension, reasonable expenses reimbursed plus a training funded. Lyme Resource Centre (LRC) is a charity with a mission to minimise risk of Lyme disease whilst encouraging the enjoyment of outdoor activities. This goal is achieved through education of the public and healthcare professionals about ticks and Lyme disease.

About the Role

This role is a rare and exciting launchpad for an ambitious professional looking to step into major gift fundraising. You do not need a legal background to succeed here - we are looking for someone with the drive, energy, and interpersonal warmth to connect with people, and we are fully committed to providing the coaching and mentoring you need to master the art of fundraising.

Working closely with the Faculty of Law, you will champion philanthropic efforts to raise vital income, by securing donations in the £50,000–£80,000 range from your own developing pool of individual alumni, trust representatives, law firms and a group of loyal barristers' chambers.

Job description

DMI is looking for a motivated Finance Manager to join our friendly team in London. Working closely with the Head of Finance and the finance team in the UK, and liaising with relevant staff in DMI’s international offices, the successful candidate will play an important part in ensuring that DMI’s finances are managed effectively and in line with internal policies and statutory requirements.

More specifically, the Finance Manager will have the following responsibilities:

Key responsibilities

1. Supporting the Head of Finance in ensuring that DMI complies with relevant financial legislation and regulatory requirements in the UK and internationally. This includes supporting the year-end financial reporting and audit processes across the DMI group, together with payroll, VAT and other statutory reporting requirements where relevant.
2. Leading on improving and transforming finance processes and systems across DMI. This includes identifying opportunities to automate workflows, improve reporting, strengthen controls and increase efficiency using digital tools, AI and other technologies where appropriate.
3. Developing and maintaining financial models, reports and tools in Excel to support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and organisational decision-making.
4. Preparing and consolidating project and HQ budgets, cash flow forecasts, management accounts and other financial reports to support operational and strategic decision-making.
5. Working closely with colleagues in DMI’s international offices to review monthly financial performance, strengthen financial processes and support planning for future periods.
6. Supporting donor financial reporting and ensuring expenditure is incurred and reported in line with donor requirements and organisational policies.
7. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to improve understanding of financial management, systems and controls, including supporting and mentoring staff with both financial and non-financial backgrounds.

Person specification

Required knowledge, skills and experience

1. Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CA or equivalent) with relevant post-qualification experience.
2. Strong Excel and systems skills, including experience using financial management systems (DMI currently uses QuickBooks).
3. Experience preparing and managing budgets, forecasts and financial reports.
4. Experience improving finance processes, streamlining workflows or strengthening financial controls.

The role will be responsible for developing a lived experience participation network ensuring that our existing and growing work in this area can be delivered smoothly, ethically and in line with best practice and making sure that the voices of those most at risk of financial hardship can be heard. The role will champion and encourage participatory practice across the organisation, developing the long term lived experience strategy and supporting the organisation to learn and grow in this area. 

You should have strong experience of designing, running and supporting participatory activity, particularly with those with lived experience of a pressing social issue.  You will be passionate about making change for those with experience of financial hardship in later life and bring an understanding of what barriers there might be to taking part and how to overcome them.   Exceptional organisational skills are a must, along with great communication and the ability to build relationships with a broad range of people.
