We are seeking a creative and conscientious communications leader with exceptional attention to detail and demonstrable expertise in developing and delivering high-impact strategic communications outputs in the international development or third sector. About Practical Action and the GDC
Practical Action is an international development organisation putting ingenious ideas to work so people in poverty can change their world. For the past eight years, Practical Action has been hosting and building the Global Distributors Collective (GDC): a collective of 300 last mile distribution companies that cumulatively reach millions of the poorest consumers in the world with beneficial products like solar lanterns, water filters and improved cookstoves. GDC activities are delivered in collaboration with strategic and implementing partner Bopinc.
The GDC provides a collective voice for distributors to ensure their priorities are heard; drives research and innovation across the sector; facilitates the exchange of information, insight, and expertise; and provides critical services that leverage economies of scale.
Moving into our 2026-30 strategy phase, we are proactively shifting from creating and setting up advisory services and tools that support last mile distributors to embedding and scaling these initiatives. Specifically, we will focus on four key strategic pillars:
· Unlocking finance: Prepare more last mile distributors (LMDs) for investment and help to unlock country-level financing mechanisms and create LMD-focussed debt facilities.
· Strengthening business performance: Deliver training, shared services, and data tools that reduce business costs and improve efficiency, in scalable formats.
· Scaling innovation: Identify, test, and replicate high-value business innovations and remove eco-system barriers.
· Shaping systems and local leadership: Build local chapters and influence global and national agendas so LMDs are visible, valued and represented.
About you
We are looking for a go-getting, ambitious and proactive communications specialist who is ready to lead the GDC communications team to deliver a range of high-impact, top-quality, communications activities over the next 12 months. To succeed in this role, you must be a communications all-rounder, an experienced line manager, and an excellent written and verbal communicator with exceptional attention to detail, robust project management and interpersonal skills. You will be a strategic thinker with the ability to multitask, work independently and adapt in a fast-paced environment, while also being willing to “muck in” in our relatively small team. Depending on where you are based, demonstrable experience of managing remote staff will be important; as will the ability to thoughtfully support and coach team members to achieve their full potential.

About the Rushton Centre Project
The Development Manager's primary work in the initial phase of the role will be to direct a fundraising campaign for the new Rushton Centre. The Centre is being designed to meet the changing needs of the Charity. As well as a hydrotherapy pool, we want to open a cafe which will give young people with additional needs opportunity for work, and we want to create additional spaces. The Centre will cost an estimated £4M. The Trustees are in a position to contribute £1M from reserves, but the Development Manager will play a crucial role in designing and implementing a fundraising strategy for the remaining funds.
Key Tasks
1. Develop and implement fundraising strategies and campaigns to meet organisational goals and ensure financial sustainability.
2. Identify and cultivate relationships with potential donors, sponsors, and foundations, including individuals, corporations, and community organisations.
3. Research and pursue grants and trusts applications, managing the process from start to finish.
4. Coordinate and oversee current charitable donations and legacies.
5. Work with colleagues at the Charity to identify funding priorities; liaise with key post-holders, including the Finance Manager, to meet audit and compliance requirements.
6. Organize fundraising events and initiatives, such as galas, charity drives, and online campaigns, to generate donations and increase public awareness.
7. Manage donor databases and maintain accurate records of contributions, sponsorships, and communications.
8. Take a supporter-centred approach in all your work, building strong, respectful relationships with donors.
9. Communicate the organization’s mission and impact to donors, stakeholders, and the public through presentations, newsletters, and promotional materials.
10. Be responsible for managing and promoting our fundraising profile through social media and other online presence.
11. Monitor and evaluate fundraising campaigns to assess effectiveness and inform future strategies.

About North Cotswold Foodbank
North Cotswold Foodbank is a charity which provides essential food and support to people facing hardship in our area. Our seven outlets are run almost entirely by volunteers, and led by a board of trustees. The day-to-day operation is managed by a small number of paid staff who work with volunteers and trustees to provide almost 2,000 emergency food parcels per year.
We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face hunger. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food to local people who are referred to us in hardship. About the role:
What you’ll do:
- Oversee and manage the operation of North Cotswold Foodbank, its warehouse and seven outlets, focussing on operational efficiency and standards.
- In partnership with the Development Manager, guide the development of NCFB’s strategy including its material resources, financial assets, reputation, and partnerships.
- Help recruit, train and develop key members for the NCFB team, including employees and volunteers.
- Manage the food bank’s employees and our volunteers, setting clear objectives and reviewing performance as required.
- Be the key contact for local supermarkets and business partners.
- Maintain a foodbank phone and email account and keep volunteers, staff and trustees regularly informed by weekly newsletters and face-to-face contact.
- Visit all seven North Cotswold Foodbank outlets and the warehouse on a regular basis.
- Liaise regularly with outlet lead volunteers to monitor operations, risk and policy compliance.
- Ensure equipment and vehicles used by NCFB are well maintained and fit for purpose and that all drivers of NCFB transport are suitably covered by their driving licence.
- Organise and oversee annual stocktake.
- Attend meetings of local groups and organisations to raise awareness of NCFB and its aims and purpose.

About the role
As a Programme Manager – Networks and Engagement for the Cyber and Tech research group, you will be project managing and coordinating events for the Cyber Effects Network . You will also support the management of other projects and events, as well as coordinating the team’s external communications (e.g. newsletters and social media). More broadly, you will develop the Cyber and Tech research group’s ability to engage with the cyber and tech community across governments, industry and civil society.
This professional administrative role plays a critical part in supporting both programme delivery and the team’s research staff and leadership.
Whilst an interest in our area of research is a plus, this role does not itself involve research or policy analysis and is not intended to be a pathway into those positions. Candidates should therefore be motivated by programme coordination, event organisation and operational delivery and excellence.

Salary & Benefits
Salary: We have set bands for the salary range for all positions at Crisis Action. The baseline of our salary range for this position is £40K per annum.
Benefits: 25 annual leave days (30 days after 3 years). Up to 6% contribution to pension. 3-month long service leave after 6 years and one-month sabbatical leave in year 10. CA additionally offers an annual inflationary increase, and 2% salary increase in year 2, 4 and 8 subject to availability of funds.
