Ambition Aspire Achieve is seeking an exceptional, values-led Chief Executive to lead our much-loved children and young people’s charity into its next chapter.
This is a rare opportunity to lead a practical, relationship-based and strongly rooted Newham charity that makes a real difference to children, young people and families facing disadvantage, vulnerability, SEND, disability or risk.
Founded in 2016 by Kevin Jenkins OBE, Ambition Aspire Achieve has grown from a small number of projects at the Terence Brown Arc in the Park into a well-established charity working across Newham. Today, AAA supports nearly 1,000 children and young people each year through its hubs, with many more reached through outreach, schools-based work and community programmes.
Our work is grounded in the belief that every child and young person should be able to enjoy their childhood, overcome barriers, build confidence and develop the skills and self-belief to achieve positive futures. We deliver a broad programme of support including after-school clubs, holiday programmes, youth clubs, SEND activities, mentoring, outdoor learning, sports, family days, residentials, detached youth work, schools-based youth safety work, community events and targeted family support.
This is an exciting and important moment in AAA’s journey. Following a period of growth, the charity is now focused on consolidation, quality and long-term sustainability. We are financially stable, well regarded and deeply rooted locally, with strong relationships across funders, schools, corporate partners, local agencies and community organisations.
The next Chief Executive will provide clear, steady and values-led leadership, working closely with the Chair and Board of Trustees. They will lead and support the staff team, strengthen organisational sustainability, maintain and develop partnerships, champion safeguarding and inclusion, and ensure children and young people remain at the heart of every decision.
As AAA does not currently have a dedicated senior fundraising post, the Chief Executive will also play a central role in securing and maintaining the income needed to sustain and develop the charity’s work. This will include trusts and foundations, statutory funding, corporate partnerships, individual donors, appeals and wider supporter engagement.
We are looking for someone who can combine strategic leadership with practical operational understanding. You may already be a Chief Executive, or you may be an experienced senior leader ready to step into your first Chief Executive role. What matters most is your ability to lead with clarity, care and resilience; build trusted relationships; secure income; uphold strong governance; and keep AAA’s values at the centre of how the charity works.
AAA’s values are Committed, Caring, Collaborative and Creative. We are looking for a leader who can live these values, promote a positive and inclusive culture, and help ensure AAA remains strong, responsive and ambitious for the children, young people and families who need us most.
This is not a turnaround role, but it is a significant leadership opportunity. The successful candidate will inherit a respected and impactful charity with strong foundations, while also leading it through a more challenging external funding environment and into its next phase of development.
To provide children and young people in the London Borough of Newham with fully inclusive experiences and opportunities to flourish.

This is an exciting leadership role at the heart of our Public Fundraising team.
You'll lead and inspire a talented team responsible for growing income through mass market fundraising, individual giving and high-profile campaigns, including our flagship campaign, #HelloYellow which engages thousands of individuals, schools, communities and organisations across the UK to raise funds and wear yellow in solidarity for young people's mental health.
You'll develop and deliver strategies that attract new supporters, deepen engagement, increase donor loyalty and grow sustainable income. Combining creativity with a data-led approach, you'll identify new opportunities, test innovative fundraising products, and ensure every supporter enjoys an exceptional experience as part of the YoungMinds movement.
This is a role for someone who thrives on growth, innovation and impact.
What you'll be doing
About you
You'll bring significant experience of leading successful individual giving, direct marketing or public fundraising programmes and a track record of delivering growth.
We're particularly interested in hearing from candidates who can demonstrate:
Working effectively and collaboratively as part of cross-functional project teams
Why join YoungMinds?
This is a chance to join one of the UK's most influential charities and play a key role in helping young people get the mental health support they need. With 1-5 young people experiencing a probably mental health condition in the UK today, there has never been a more important time to lend your experience and skills to a cause that matters to so many.
You'll be part of an experienced, multi disciplined, fundraising team that is friendly, supportive and collaborative, with a strong commitment to working together to achieve impact. We work hard but like to have fun while we do it.
You'll also be joining a values-led organisation that puts young people's voices at the centre of everything it does, encourages innovation, supports flexible working and is committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive.
And at YoungMinds, we believe every young person deserves mental health support when they need it - no matter what. But not all young people have equal access to help. That's why (AJEDI) Anti-Racism, Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion is central to everything we do. It guides how we operate, support our people, and serve young people. We are committed to anti discriminatory policies and practices. We are also committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Key Dates
Closing date: 9am Monday 21 September
Interviews: in person Tues 29 September
Charity People is a forward-thinking, inclusive organisation that actively and deliberately promotes equity, diversity and inclusion. We know organisations thrive when inclusion is at the forefront. We evidence our commitment by matching charity needs with the skills and experience of candidates irrespective of background including age, disability (including hidden disabilities), gender, gender identity or gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation. We do this because we believe that greater diversity leads to greater results for the charities we work with.
Help build the operational backbone of a multi-award winning charity that's ready to grow further, with a clear path to becoming our COO.
For seven years, one exceptional leader has held impact, organisational development and much of YUAF's operations, building the processes, funder relationships and team support that became part of the spine of how we grew. As they move on, we're not just replacing them. We're rethinking and widening the role.
This post exists to hold the organisation steady and take operational responsibility off the Chief Executive's plate, freeing her to focus on strategy, key donors and the funding pipeline.
What you'll hold
You'll report to the Chief Executive and sit on the Senior Management Team, owning income generation, impact and evidence, business planning, governance, performance management and the systems underneath them all. You'll line-manage four people: the Pathways Lead, Marketing Lead, Project Manager and Futures Lead.
Where the role is going
From month seven, this role is intended to move to full time with deeper ownership of income and strategy. As YUAF grows, and subject to income generation, we want this post to develop into our Chief Operating Officer role. We'd rather appoint someone who outgrows this description than someone who fits it exactly.
How you'll start
The first six months are a settling period at 30 hours per week. You'll learn how the organisation actually works, get embedded in the culture, and understand the programmes by spending real time with young people and the people who deliver them.
You'll build relationships across the team, with funders and with partners, and by month three, we want people to naturally come to you as a trusted point of contact.
We also want you to look at YUAF with fresh eyes. Where are the gaps? What's held together by one person's memory alone? Where does delivery quality drop, and why? What would make life easier for the staff doing the hardest work? Bring us both the diagnosis and the solutions.
The timing is on your side: November to February is our quietest season, when the Studio Bus is largely off the road. Delivery picks up again in March 2027, so the role builds in stages rather than coming to you all at once.
How to apply
In addition to providing your CV and cover letter, it is a requirement of the application process that you complete our Head of Operations Questionnaire. A link for this can be found on the attached job description.
Note
We recognise that AI is a useful tool, however, we will be assessing applications, cover letters and running through AI to ensure that it was written by yourself as part of our shortlisting process. So please take the time to write your own application, this is a serious role that requires critical and independent thinking.
The application includes 6 written questions of up to 300 words each. Allow approximately one hour.
