Network and Learning Manager – Age-friendly Communities

About the role

The UK Network of Age-friendly Communities has grown significantly over the past five years. Part of a global movement of Age-friendly Cities and Communities, affiliated to the World Health Organisation, our goal is to support this growing network, ensuring it remains a positive and thriving community of practice, and a place for good ideas to spread fast. 

With line management responsibility for a Learning Officer, the postholder will plan and implement a programme of activity to inspire, connect, and support network members using a range of engaging and creative methods including:

· Identifying, documenting, and sharing the work of Network members

· Developing or commissioning online and offline resources such as training, webinars, toolkits, etc

· Facilitating connections, information flow and exchange between members

· Providing direct guidance and support to new and existing members to make progress.

This is a hands-on role involving scoping, commissioning, managing and delivering training, events, resources, and other learning activities for the UK Network as well as building and managing relationships with the growing number local authorities and voluntary sector organisations across the UK who are members of the UK network.

The successful candidate will be experienced in and passionate about building networks and communities of practice in which people can learn and feel connected to others working towards the same goals.  You’ll be highly organised. able to create and effectively project manage a wide range of events and workshops, alongside other content to support learning.

Flexible and collaborative, you are able to build effective relationships with a wide range of people.  Someone who can enjoy being part of a team which is supporting a growing, and highly regarded network on an issue of national and global importance.

An understanding of the local policy context around ageing and older people is desirable, but not essential.  However, an understanding of how change happens ‘on the ground’, and how learning and networks can support this is key. 

You will also be passionate about equity and tackling the inequalities that prevent people from having a great later life.

Operations Manager

The Operations Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant delivery of the College’s operational services, including estates and facilities, transport, health and safety, sustainability and contracted services. 

Role Responsibilities: 

Estates and Facilities management  

• Manage and monitor contracts for building and grounds maintenance, cleaning, hygiene, waste management and energy supply, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and agreed service levels. 

• Lead procurement processes for operational contracts, including tendering, evaluation, renewal and performance monitoring, ensuring value for money and strong contractor relationships. 

• Develop and maintain a rolling programme of planned and reactive maintenance, site inspections and condition surveys to ensure the estate is safe, accessible and fit for purpose. 

• Ensure full compliance with all relevant legal, regulatory and statutory requirements relating to property and facilities. 

Transport 

• Manage the College’s transport fleet in line with Community Transport Association requirements. 

• Ensure all vehicles are legally compliant, well maintained and efficiently utilised. 

• Ensure drivers are appropriately authorised, trained and compliant with statutory and College requirements. 

Health and Safety 

• Act as the operational lead for health and safety across the College. 

• Maintain and regularly review health and safety policies, procedures, risk assessments and compliance documentation. 

• Work collaboratively with the Health and Safety Coordinator to deliver training, guidance and support to staff. 

• Ensure statutory inspections and testing (including fire safety, water quality and electrical safety) are completed and recorded. 

Sustainability 

• Monitor energy consumption and implement initiatives to reduce usage and improve environmental sustainability. 

• Ensure waste management and disposal processes meet environmental legislation and promote recycling and responsible resource use. 

Leadership 

• Line manage the operations team, including estates, transport and health and safety staff.

Role Responsibilities

Oversight of Spear Programme

Spear Foundation is a 4-week initial phase, consisting of 2 group sessions and a 1:1 with each trainee 
per week, in which we coach young people around skills and mindsets to support them in returning to 
work or education, and equip them with the skills to stay there.

• Lead group sessions of around 12 young people each, using coaching skills to transform attitudes to their own ability and the workplace, and to raise their awareness and maximise potential in stepping into the world of work.
• Prepare and coach group and 1-1 sessions with the Spear Coach.
• Ensure the programme is delivered in line with agreed targets, and report KPIs on recruitment, retention and completion of Spear Trainees to Spear, as well as their ongoing progress and 
  sustainment of work or education.

Partnership liaison and relationship management

• Establish the primary local referral agencies and build and implement a strategy for developing relationships with them to ensure recruitment of young people onto the Spear programme is effective.
• Maintain and develop relationships with local partners to form a strong referral network.

Line Management and training

• Manage the Spear Coach, using a coaching approach to invest in their growth and development.
• Be line managed by Spear to support with the set-up and ongoing operations of the centre and report back on KPIs.

Church Community

• The Spear Centre Manager is directly employed by Tabernacle Baptist Church, meaning you are part of a vibrant church team and immersed in an exciting faith community.
• You will be required to establish strong relationships with key people at the church to ensure the engagement and backing of church members, and help to establish a strong presence at the church to build a network of supporters for the Spear programme.

The Tower Project’s award-winning JET Service is seeking a passionate and skilled Disability Employment Adviser to help transform the employment prospects of adults and young people with learning disabilities and autism.

This is a varied community-facing role combining personalised employment support, employer partnership working and in-work coaching. You will manage a caseload of aproximatley 25 clients at different stages of their employment journey and work collaboratively with colleagues, employers and referral partners to create meaningful employment opportunities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

IAG and Employment Support

You will act as the key adviser for a cohort of clients, delivering high-quality, person-centred employment support that leads to sustained paid outcomes.

• Build positive working relationships with referral partners including the Community Learning Disability Team, education providers and local support organisations.
• Complete vocational profiling, better-off calculations and personalised support plans focused on employment aspirations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Donor Identification, solicitation and management 

• Work with the UK Country Manager to grow the donor portfolio in the UK by identifying prospects, building relationships and secure gifts from high net-worth individuals and other philanthropic donors. 

• Identify and deliver unique stewardship and cultivation opportunities for donors.

• Manage a portfolio of major donors through various personalised approaches, including face-to-face meetings, phone calls, events and written and verbal communications. 

• Ensure excellent and timely response to enquiries and stewardship and acknowledgement of gifts. 

Events coordination 

• Work with the UK Country Manager to help shape and deliver events and other engagement opportunities to generate income, cultivate and steward donors. 

• Take responsibility for tailored and timely event follow-up to maximise relationships and using learnings and data from past events to develop donor engagement, referrals and gifts. 

Research, communications and administration  

• Research potential new donors and funding streams.

• Support the production of proposals, pitches, reports and general supporter communications. 

• Use Salesforce to manage the accurate recording of interactions and progression related to all donor relationships 

• Provide executive assistance to the UK Country Manager and senior stakeholders in relation to scheduling supporter meetings, drafting communications and provision of information to underpin successful supporter engagement. 

• Maintain strong knowledge and understanding of HPF’s programmes. 

• Carry out administrative activities and other duties, as required, to maximise fundraising. 

Skills, Qualifications and Experience 

• Experience developing relationships with and securing funding from high-net-worth individuals and other philanthropic donors. 

• Entrepreneurial approach to relationship management and creating new fundraising initiatives. 

• Experience in coordination and delivery of bespoke, high-quality events for influential audiences. 

• Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, and a proactive networker, able to act as a spokesperson and ambassador for HPF. 

• Experience of writing inspiring, emotive, and technically fundraising communications and materials tailored to a major donor audience. 

• Exceptional organisational and time management skills to prioritise and manage own workload. 

• Results driven self-starter, able to operate independently and under pressure, whilst also able to engage meaningfully in a virtual team. 

• The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels, across multiple teams and geographies. 

• Strong IT skills, including an understanding of CRM systems. 

• Strong affinity with HPF mission, values and approach.  

Desirable:

Barnardo's is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Multi Skills Construction Tutor to deliver high quality training across a range of construction disciplines, including plastering, tiling, and painting and decorating.

Working Pattern: Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm 

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward thinking learning provider that uses innovative and creative teaching approaches to support vulnerable young people. You'll play a key role in the growth of the Barnardo's ETS (Employability, Training and Skills) London provision, delivering study programmes for young people aged 16–18 (and up to 25 with an EHCP). 

What You'll Do 

• Deliver engaging, practical training sessions across multiple construction trades. 

• Work creatively and assertively to engage Hard to reach young people. 

• Develop high quality schemes of work, lesson plans, and teaching resources that meet curriculum requirements. 

• Equip young people with essential construction skills, as well as personal, social, and employability skills to help them progress into sustained employment or further training. 

• Support the team in sourcing suitable work placements and help young people attend and succeed during their placements. 

• Manage a caseload and contribute to achieving key performance indicators, including qualification achievement, attendance, and learner progression. 

Who We're Looking For 

• Teaching qualification (PTLLS/Cert Ed/PGCE/Assessor Award or equivalent). 

• Level 3+ qualification in a relevant construction trade. 

• Understanding of Ofsted regulated programmes (Study Programmes, AEB, Apprenticeships). 

• Experience teaching or supporting young people in vocational/education settings. 

• Recent industry experience in plastering, painting & decorating, or similar. 

• Experience working with young people with SEND, care experience or complex needs. 

• A motivated and adaptable construction professional with excellent communication skills, and a genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and reach their potential.

The Role 
 
Reporting to the Head of Retail Property and Estates, as Centre Manager, you will lead a multiskilled team that delivers a consistently positive visitor experience at our flagship Yorkshire Cancer Research Centre at Hornbeam Park, Harrogate. This team provides a high level of customer service to the public across face-to-face interactions, email and telephone, while also creating a supportive working environment for employees and volunteers. This includes ensuring that the right resources, refreshments, and a clean, well maintained workspace are always available. 

As part of the visitor experience, you will be accountable for the safe and legally compliant operation of the Hornbeam Café and for ensuring it provides a comfortable and pleasant environment for customers. This includes managing the Café Manager and offering an appropriate balance of support and challenge in what is a high activity, high impact role 

You will be responsible for all health and safety elements within the Centre, including weekly fire alarm tests, routine checks and food preparation audits. The team also manages a range of consumables, so the role requires strong cost control, effective stock usage, and regular feedback on Yorkshire Cancer Research materials. 

Specifically, you will: 

• Ensure that all Health, Safety Fire and COSHH checks are carried out as required diligently, regularly and to the required standard. 

• Work closely with the Café Manager to maintain high standards of food safety through appropriate compliance adherence and regular audits. 

• Report any maintenance issues to facilities through the Yorkshire Cancer Research platform EVERY. 

• Line manage a Café Manager and a team of Centre Support Assistants and ensure they offer a positive, professional and warm welcome to all visitors. Manage the Centre Support Assistants ensuring cover on the Welcome Desk across key operating hours. 

• Develop a volunteer team with potential new role profiles to enhance the Centre Team. 

• Represent the Yorkshire Cancer Research brand positively, role modelling a professional appearance and presence in line with our values. 

• Support the team to maintain high standards at the centre with and in the Welcome Area. 

• Lead the team to provide visitors with up-to-date Yorkshire Cancer Research literature, offering the marketing team feedback on the documents provided. 

• Lead the team to ensure all working spaces including, meeting rooms and the kitchen area are well stocked and maintained. 

• Conduct recruitment processes when required and provide thorough induction and training for new recruits, ensuring new team members are well integrated into their roles and team. 

 
About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• Proven experience of working in a similar role at a similar level.

• Experience of leading, building and developing a team.

• Experience of creating, developing and streamlining operational and administrative processes and procedures. 

• Proven experience of implementing systems and conducting training as necessary.

• Proven experience of monitoring budgets and tracking progress.

• Proven experience of delivering tangible process improvement.

• Experience of proactively working to advance skills through continued professional development relevant to the role and level.

• Experience of basic Health and Safety and Fire training in previous roles alongside an awareness of GDPR, Cyber Security and Safeguarding or can demonstrate awareness of the above. Good understanding of Data Protection principles and food safety 

• Experience of working in the hospitality sector. In terms of budget management and good practice. 

This is an onsite, hands on and demanding role, requiring someone who can remain calm under pressure and knows when to escalate issues.

• Lead Fundraising Strategy - develop and deliver a dynamic fundraising strategy across multiple income streams. Identify new opportunities and drive year‑on‑year income growth.

About You

• Substantial experience in fundraising from at least one of the following: trusts and foundations, corporates or individual giving.
• Substantial understanding of charity sector regulations, compliance requirements, and ethical fundraising standards.
• Knowledge of donor stewardship and supporter engagement strategies.
• A track record of achieving and exceeding fundraising targets.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to craft persuasive proposals and campaigns.
• Excellent project management, data monitoring, and CRM experience.
