At The Advocacy Academy, we envision a world where young people with lived experience of injustice (LEofI) harness their collective power to shape a more fair, just, and equal society. Our mission is to organise and support these young people to drive systemic change on the most pressing issues of our time.
We do this by offering deep coaching, delivering transformative leadership programmes, and creating clear pathways for sustained action. Through shared learning and community-building, we help young leaders build the knowledge, skills, and confidence to launch and lead proactive campaigns. We also recognise that real change starts from within - so we’re committed to a governance structure that is values-driven, participatory, and beyond reproach, ensuring TAA is as accountable to young people as it is to the communities we serve and its wider responsibilities.
We’re now looking to a Finance Trustee to join our Board and help steer this work. We're especially keen to hear from people with leadership experience in the following area: Finance & Fundraising.
Trustees of The Advocacy Academy play a unique role in delivery of our mission. They are collectively responsible for the governance of the organisation, represent it to the community, and accept ultimate compliance authority for the charity and its activities. As a Trustee with experience in the UK’s youth sector, you will support the Board and the Executives in ensuring that TAA continues to deliver an exceptional quality of youth work, and the role that safeguarding plays in achieving this. As a trustee:
- Work with the Chair, Trustees and Senior Leadership team to ensure there is a clear, long-term and strategic vision The Advocacy Academy.
- Work with the Board to ensure we function within the legal and financial requirements of a UK registered charity and company, our constitution and that we strive for best practice
- Take responsibility with the other trustees so that the organisation has effective practice to safeguard the people it works with
- Act as an ambassador, spokesperson and champion our work supporting our income activities, and fostering networks that can help generate income.
About Our Board of Trustees
- Our Board currently consists of four members, recruited, selected, and approved by the Board of Trustees.
- Each trustee serves a three-year term, and we are made up of individuals from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities.
- The Board meets quarterly (four times per year) to provide strategic oversight and governance. Operations/day to day are managed by the Executives.
- Given the size of the board, we expect all trustees to join at least one subcommittees meeting per year, unless there are extenuating circumstances. .The subcommittee meets are typically held prior to full Board meetings.
- Board meetings are held at our Liberation Centre in Brixton and subcommittee meets are held virtually
- The role of trustee is voluntary, though reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
- Trustees are expected to prepare in advance by reading reports and meeting papers, and are also warmly invited to attend our events throughout the year.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
The Finance Trustee - Will provide charity financial governance oversight of The Advocacy Academy, including but not limited to: Working closely with our Finance Director and the Finance & Risk Committee will:
- Provide support on financial oversight and ensure compliance with relevant charity and regulatory requirements.
- Review and co-present financial reports and key insights to the Board of Trustees.
- Actively participate in the Finance and Risk Committee, ensuring effective financial scrutiny.
- Strategic contribution to long-term financial and fundraising planning and support the organisation’s risk management framework.
- Attend Finance and Risk subcommittee meetings quarterly.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Proven expertise in charity fundraising and financial management.
- Experience of charity finance and fundraising is essential.
- Previous board or trustee experience.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
EXPECTATIONS & ENTITLEMENT
- Attend at least one training programme that we run, so that you understand the work we deliver
- Attend trustee meetings, which are held four times a year in London or virtually, and last between 3 expected to attend at least three each year.
- Participate in one of our sub-committees as may be required by the trustee role.
- Demonstrate commitment to The Advocacy Academy by supporting fundraising efforts.
- Serve for a term of three years and be able to stand for re-election for a further term and possibly two.
- Work with the Chair to review your performance
- Claim reasonable travel and accommodation expenses to attend meetings -4 hours - trustees are expected to attend at least three each year.

We currently have a vacancy for a Trustee on the Board of the Mosaic Learning Trust, based in Standish, Wigan.

Iprovision is the benevolent fund of The Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR). Iprovision is currently looking for new volunteers to join its Board of Trustees.
You don’t need to be a member of the CIPR to become a Trustee of Iprovision, but you do need to be willing to donate your time – and your understanding of the challenges life can throw at us – to consider the plight of those less fortunate.
The role Iprovision plays in helping members in need is really important. For example, Iprovision provides the funding for the CIPR’s mental health hotline that gives members access to expert advice and online materials. CIPR members coping with stress, with job loss, family illnesses or other challenges can turn to Iprovision for expert advice, counselling and, in many cases, financial support. To mark CIPR’s 75th anniversary we also established an education fund to help people get into the PR profession. We plan to continue with this fund in future years.
As a registered charity, Iprovision is led by its small board of up to 12 volunteer Trustees who consider the applications from CIPR members for support. Based on advice from a professional Support worker – the Trustees make the final decision on the type and level of support to be provided. This might be a straight cash grant, or the Trustees might elect to pay for some training and coaching to help someone get back into employment.
Each applicant for support is presented to the Trustees anonymously, and decisions are taken purely on the facts presented, the situation being experienced, and the types of support that are available.
As a charity, Iprovision depends for its funding purely on the voluntary annual donations that some members pay on top of their CIPR subscriptions, and fundraising activity and events.
The Trustees have a vital role to play – driving awareness of the fund, arranging and supporting fundraising activity, and of course considering applications for support. The Trustees meet four times a year (mix of in person and hybrid meetings) and are responsible for ensuring that the charity manages its funds wisely.
Knowledge, experience and attributes
Charitable Trustees have a general obligation to:
- Act in the charity’s best interests
- Manage the charity’s resources responsibly
- Act with reasonable care and skill.
Trustees should understand the purpose and activities of the charity and ensure they are in line and complying with the governance documents (the Memorandum and Articles of Association).

Benefits
This is a volunteer role so no material rewards are offered. Benefits are non-material and include experience, the opportunity to contribute, to learn and become part of a dynamic community. Location
Our charity’s office and principal activities are in Dereham, Norfolk. All Board meetings are held in person. Sub-committees can meet face-to-face or hybrid via Teams to suit sub-committee members. We encourage our trustees to visit the office and all services whenever possible.
Support
You will be supported by the Chair, other members of the Board of Trustees, and the CEO.
Responsibilities
As a trustee, you have important personal responsibilities to ensure the charity is well-governed, effective, and operates for the public benefit.

Qualities and experience

Time commitment
The charity holds quarterly Board meetings, with each lasting approximately 2 – 3 hours. All Board meetings are held outside of normal office hours.
It is suggested that approximately two hours preparation time be allowed for prior to each meeting to ensure trustees are familiar with items to be discussed.
Sub-committees meet quarterly with each lasting approximately 1.5 – 2 hours. Approximately one hour is suggested for preparation in advance of the meeting.
Typically, all trustees attend the AGM in person, and at least one annual fundraising or social event hosted by the organisation. These are held on evenings or weekends.
To allow time to settle into the role, and to see the fruits of your work, we suggest that candidates assume a three-year commitment to Mid Norfolk Mencap at the outset.
Training
You will be given a basic induction to the charity and opportunities to meet with the leadership team.
All trustees are required to complete the statutory Oliver McGowan training. Additional training opportunities will be identified based on your individual experience and qualifications, ensuring you have the support needed to excel in your role.
Through the trustee recruitment and on-Boarding process, we will arrange for you to meet with our Chair and CEO, and we encourage you to explore their motivation and rewards as part of your evaluation of us.
Rewards
The role of a trustee is voluntary and is not accompanied by any financial remuneration. Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed for required travel, training, communication and childcare/carers to enable trustees to attend and participate at Board meetings.
Conditions of engagement

Blue Smile's mission is to transform the mental health and life chances of Cambridgeshire children through arts-based therapies, supporting over 200 children a week in the region providing one-to-one therapy and groupwork. One Tenth Human is an award-winning theatre company based in Lancaster, led by Artistic Director Sarah Punshon. We are a registered charity (no. 1195497), on a mission to empower primary-age children with better stories about their own potential. We explode myths and expectations when it comes to science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths (“STEAM”) because too many children reach adulthood believing these subjects are not for “people like me”. We want to change this.
We create and tour interactive theatrical adventures nationally to arts venues, libraries, schools, and village halls. Since our formation in 2016, we have been commissioned and co-produced by Shoreditch Town Hall, Z-arts, China Plate, Polka Theatre, Tutti Frutti, Big Imaginations, ARC Stockton, The Dukes Lancaster, and Lancaster Arts. We reach nationally, but are deeply embedded in our local region, working closely with schools, community groups, charities, and higher education partners to incubate new work and give more children the chance to take part in our life-changing adventures.

The Board meets for 90 minute meetings every quarter on Zoom, with occasional in-person Away Days.
Written information is sent out a week before each meeting, requiring careful reading and consideration. Trustees may take on additional tasks suitable to their area of expertise between meetings, but the role is fundamentally one of governance and strategic guidance.
We are currently recruiting for Board members with the following skills:
(A) Financial Management Trustee. We are seeking a Board member who would be able to support our financial management, working with the Treasurer (and our accountant) to oversee financial planning, processes, and compliance. Your experience might be an accountancy qualification, experience with charity financial management, experience in business, or similar. Your role would include joining our Budget Working Group, which meets quarterly, one to two weeks before each Board meeting.
(B) Board Members. More broadly, we are keen to recruit Board members who have any one (or more!) of the following areas of expertise:

○ Fundraising / philanthropy;

○ Charity governance / legal;

○ IT;
-
○ Children aged 3-10 years - whether as a teacher, parent, carer, or volunteer;

○ Education, particularly primary education;

○ Science, technology, engineering or maths: this might mean in industry, in academia, in
museums, or another public engagement area. In addition, we expect all Board members to have:

○ A commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion across all aspects of society

○ The equivalent of about 1 day per month to devote to us.
We would be particularly interested to talk to applicants who are based or have networks in the North-West, but this is not essential. Our meetings are via Zoom and current Trustees are based in Manchester, Leeds, York, and London.

War Memorials Trust works to protect and conserve the nation's 100,000 war memorials. It is looking for new Trustees, with the right skills, experience, enthusiasm and commitment, to join the Board and help guide the charity's efforts.
The charity provides advice and expertise to help anyone who looks after a war memorial to manage, repair and conserve it for the benefit of those who live locally, those who are commemorated and their families and the wider population. Sadly, names are added on a regular basis, hence many are living memorials as well as commemorating those from conflicts past. It also encourages public engagement especially through its website War Memorials Online to which anyone can add information and upload photographs. So, if the Trustee role isn't for you, you may still be able to contribute by signing up to War Memorials Online.
A skills audit has identified key areas of expertise that the Board needs to enhance as
- fundraising expertise to ensure we are here for the long term
- legal expertise to support the charity deliver its objectives appropriately

This role is home based with board meetings rotating between in-person at the London office and online, although all can be joined online. Some attendance at events or visits to war memorials may be undertaken. Reasonable expenses related to the role will be available. Minimum engagement is for four, two-hour board meetings per year (plus reading of papers beforehand). Additional input will be welcomed and Trustees may be approached by staff, on a collective or an individual basis, between meetings, particularly in relation to their expertise.

Immigration is one of the key debates within UK politics and the media. IMIX is working to ensure that debate includes the voices of migrants and those who support them.
Our vision is for a society that welcomes people who move to the UK and understands the different journeys—through migration or displacement—that bring them here. A society that recognises how overlapping injustices shape those journeys, and where everyone can belong, be treated fairly, and live well together.
Our mission is to use our media and communications expertise to ensure the voices and stories of migrants and refugees help shape how migration is understood and discussed in the UK.
We do this by working with people who have lived experience of the immigration system, the organisations that support them, and the journalists who shape public opinion—always recognising the inequalities and barriers that affect whose voices are heard.
We have a new strategy to 2030, which sets out the role that we play in the migration sector, and our ambitions for the years ahead. These are to:

The Duties of a Trustee
Trustees have overall control of a charity and are responsible for making sure it’s doing what it was set up to do, keeping the organisation on track and running effectively.
The IMIX Board meets four times a year to discuss with the Chief Executive and the team a wide range of issues. Our shared duties are to:
Strategy

Support the implementation of IMIX’s vision, mission, values and strategy.

Approve activities that deliver the strategic goals, along with operational policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.

Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
Finance and Resources

Ensure the strategy is resourced by overseeing IMIX’s financial plans and budgets.

Support and participate in fundraising and income generation activities

Review and approve IMIX’s annual financial statements.

Provide support and challenge to IMIX’s Chief Executive

Ensure that structures are in place that safeguard the well-being of IMIX’s team including volunteers and ambassadors.

What we’re looking for
We are looking for people to join our Board who have either or both of the following:
Lived experience of migration or asylum
More than half of our Board of Trustees have lived experience of migration, ranging from arriving as a refugee, growing up in the UK without settled status, moving to the UK from Europe, or being British but born outside of the UK.
It is important to us that people with lived experience are leading the governance of the organisation, as well as being involved across our projects, through Advisory Groups and Ambassador programmes. We recognise that diverse perspectives strengthen governance and decision-making, and we seek to continue broadening the range of backgrounds and experiences represented on our board.
Professional skills
We’re particularly looking for experience in one or more of the following areas:

Digital

Fundraising and/or income generation

Legal and financial oversight for charities

Public sector/local authority experience, in particular regional links beyond London

What’s the commitment?
The Trustee term is three years, with an option to renew for a second term.
We have quarterly board meetings which take place online, with at one in person away day each year in London. We also have two sub-committees, one on People and HR, and the other on Finances and Funding, which meet in the month before a Board meeting.
How will we support you?
We’ll provide a full induction to the work of IMIX, and opportunities for you to understand what we do and how.
The Chair and Chief Executive will support you to settle in, and there is an annual one-to-one with the Chair for you to reflect on your learning and your experience of being on the Board.
We can also provide training and opportunities for you to develop your governance skills and particularly welcome people who may be new to governance roles.

Make a difference in Kent by joining our team of trustees!
Kent Community Foundation (KCF) is looking for individuals to join our Board of Trustees who have a real passion for our county and want to make a demonstrable difference to the lives of people in our communities.
KCF is a professional grant-maker and local philanthropy advisor for Kent and Medway. We have been established for 24 years; distributing more than £60 million in grants to voluntary sector organisations across the county; supporting small charities to be sustainable and successful, and helping major donors maximise the impact of their donations.
Trustees are the volunteers who lead charities and decide how they are run; setting strategic plans, monitoring the performance, impact and sustainability of the charity and overseeing its governance. People of any age and background can be a trustee, and we're looking for people with specific experience to help us support communities in Kent. We are particularly interested in applications from people who are typically under-represented on trustee boards.
We have a comprehensive trustee induction programme, so if you have never been a trustee or on a board before, we will ensure you have all the knowledge and support you need.
