The Role:

The Financial Controller (FC) will report to and work closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) leading the Finance Team with line management responsibility for all four members. This team is highly competent, reliable, and experienced in what they do. The Financial Controller has responsibility for leading activity across the team, driving high levels of professionalism, integrity and continuous improvement in designing and running effective and efficient operational activity and analysis.
The key responsibilities of the Financial Controller will be:
- Assist the CFO in developing and maintaining a framework of performance and risk management including the HBLB three-year business plan.
- Manage and control the framework of bank accounts including assisting the CFO in decision-making on all treasury matters.
- Lead on the maintenance of an accurate, rolling, three-year forward look financial model.

The successful candidate will have:
- You must be ACCA, CIMA or ACA fully qualified with at least three years’ PQE.

UCL's Advancement team is responsible for generating the university's philanthropic income. Having closed a successful £624m campaign in 2020, Advancement are now launching a £1bn fundraising campaign to celebrate the 200th anniversary of UCL in 2026.
Diversifying income - including growing philanthropic income - is integral to UCL's financial strategy. Working closely with the Advancement team, this job is based in the central Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team, reporting to the Head of Financial Strategy.
About the role
This new job has been created at a pivotal time for UCL as we prepare for the launch of our biggest institutional fundraising and engagement campaign to date.
As the Head of Finance (Philanthropy and Endowments), you will play a key role in setting the foundations for the campaign, representing a career defining opportunity for the right candidate.
In this job you will:
* Lead financial planning for philanthropy, to shape and plan how we generate and account for philanthropic income
* Implement regular delivery of consistent management information
* Develop financial policies and recommendations in relation to philanthropy
* Provide expertise and insight on the spend of endowed funds, making sure philanthropic funds are as impactful a possible
* Ensure alignment between Advancement's ambitions and UCL's wider financial strategy
* Work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues in Finance and Advancement This role will be truly cross cutting, working with Senior Leadership across UCL, to support the growth of philanthropy as an increasingly important income stream to UCL

About you
For this role, we are looking for a fully qualified accountant with significant financial planning and policy experience. Ideally you will have experience from within the fundraising sector, but you'll certainly have worked within a large not-for-profit organisation (charity, Higher Education, Government etc.)
You must have a track record of providing strategic financial partnership to senior leaders, and experience delivering financial analysis and reporting to non-finance staff. You must be able to demonstrate experience developing and implementing financial policy.
Experience working in the HE sector is desirable, but training and induction will be available for the right candidate looking to move into this sector.

An exciting position has arisen for a Director of Finance to work for a leading educational not-for-profit organisation. This role will oversee all Finance activities across the organisation, and support in the delivery of the organisation’s strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the organisation’s mission and goals
- Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, management accounts, analyses and insights for presentation to budget holders and senior stakeholders
- Provide strategic financial guidance to senior management and the board
- Monitor financial performance, identify risks, and recommend corrective actions
- Maintain appropriate financial records and prepare annual reports and financial statements in accordance with UK accounting standards, Charity Commission and company law requirements
- Handle all aspects of the relationship with external auditors
- Lead on the implementation of a new finance and accounting system (Access Financial)
- Hold responsibility for all tax matters and compliance with HMRC requirements
Successful candidate profile:
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
- 5 years’ professional experience post qualification as an accountant
- Experience in the not-for-profit sector
- Experience in change management
- Knowledge of Access Financial and experience leading implementation
- Ability to maintain strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders

Growing Hope seeks a highly-motivated and experienced Director of Operations who is passionate about our mission. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the charity’s essential operations.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead and develop our finance, HR, IT, and governance functions. This will provide the backbone for Growing Hope to continue making a tangible difference in the world and ensure the charity’s long-term sustainability and growth.
This role will report to the CEO of the charity and will work closely as part of the Senior Leadership team. The Operations Director will have oversight of HR, IT, Operations, Finance and Governance within the charity. This will involve line management of the Finance Officer and Operations Officer in the team. As the charity grows we want to ensure that we have strong governance, processes and financial reporting across Growing Hope and the local charities. As a small charity, the role will require balancing practical tasks with strategic planning and management. The role will be based in King’s Cross (2 days office based) with occasional events outside of the office.
