About you
We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our friendly publishing team at the British Ecological Society (BES) and support the team in the general running of the BES’ portfolio of ecology journals.
You’ll be looking to build a career in scientific publishing and be eager to learn from a team of internal colleagues and external academic editors. You’ll enjoy staying on top of a range of tasks and be great at working independently and as part of a busy team. You’ll have excellent attention to detail and be effective, friendly, and customer-oriented in your email communications.
The successful candidate will become part of a team seeking to excite and inspire our various audiences in ecology at a time when our science has never been more relevant for society.
About the role
Working across the BES journal portfolio, the Publishing Assistant will:
- Check in new submissions of scientific papers to ensure that manuscripts are complete and authors have adhered to journal policies before passing manuscripts on to Editors for content evaluation.
- In collaboration with the editorial team, monitor progress on manuscripts in the submission system to identify and help resolve potential bottlenecks in peer review.
- Assist in managing the journal inboxes, dealing with straightforward manuscript-related messages from authors, reviewers and external editors.
- Ensure that accurate records are maintained in the submission system on the processing of all manuscripts.
- Carry out post-acceptance checks on manuscripts and liaise with production team when requested, particularly during periods of annual leave for editorial office colleagues.
- Assist in regular performance statistics reporting across the journal portfolio.
- The post holder will also have some opportunity to learn about other aspects of editorial office management, including journal development and marketing and support promotion of articles via social media accounts and press releases.
Requirements
Essential

4-day week
The BES offer a voluntary, opt-in 4-day working week model for all full time staff. Staff who opt-in may work 32 hours over 4 or 4.5 days at no loss of salary.
Leave
Employees receive 25 days annual leave, increasing by 1 each year to a maximum of 30 days, plus additional leave between Christmas and New Years.
The BES also offers a generous paid sick leave policy.
Pension

Hybrid Working
BES staff are based at least 10 days per month at our office near Old Street in London.

Purpose of the Role:
Due to an ambitious strategy to increase our reach and revenue by 2027, and increasing demand for our legal services, we are ready to welcome an experienced Senior Legal Rights Team Manager to our Legal Rights Team.
We are looking for an experienced and organised individual to lead the delivery of our high-quality legal rights service, managing a team to ensure our services and support comply with regulatory obligations and remain up to date with the latest legal updates. This includes casework supervision within the team as well as managing your own caseload. The legal focus of the team’s work is within the health and social care field.
In addition, you will need to support the Director of Research and Support Services in managing our external relationships, evaluating and monitoring our service, devising and delivering training and supporting research and marketing activity. Additionally, you will use casework evidence to inform the Charity’s wider policy and advocacy strategies to achieve systematic change.
To be a success in this role, you should be an excellent communicator, proactive, flexible, highly organised and able to meet deadlines. This is a challenging but well-supported role, where you can make a large, career-defining impact for Cerebra and the children and families that we serve.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
1. Team Management and Supervision
- Provide effective, remote line management, support and performance management to direct reports to help them maximise their potential and effectiveness.
- Ensuring that knowledge, training and skills are maintained within the team, with a particular focus on legal knowledge and expertise.
- Conducting inductions, performance management and ensuring casework supervision.
- Provide practical and person-focused coaching support to the Legal Rights Team.
- Ensure there is a continual culture and focus on learning and development and wellbeing.
2. Culture & leadership
- Work to continue the development of a strong, person-centred, empathetic, supportive and inclusive culture at Cerebra.
- Build on excellent relationships between different teams and directorates for each other’s and Cerebra’s overall strategic goals and objectives
- Collaborate across departments to align partner activity with service delivery and communications.

3. Legal Casework
- Oversee and supervise casework around health and social care legal entitlements.
- Manage referrals to the Legal Rights Service and triage new cases.
- Ensure that casework is managed in a timely, appropriate and compliant manner.
- Undertaking a personal caseload, including complex cases.
- Ensure all cases are handled in a timely manner - compliantly, effectively and ensuring quality standards are adhered to.
- Develop and maintain legal information products.
- Providing reports to the Director Group and Trustees where required on service performance, legal trends and key performance indicators.
- Use any common occurring problems that arise from the casework to feed into developing further research work into the area of health and social care.
4. Policy and Advocacy
- Utilise insights and data gathered from casework to identify systematic issues/updates and contribute to Cerebra’s policy and advocacy strategies.
- Collaboration and supporting the Senior Research, Policy and Influencing Manager to ensure insights and data trends identified from casework are appropriately actioned and communicated.
- Use knowledge, experience and legislative updates to influence wider policy changes.
5. General
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of the Legal Rights Team.
- Build and develop relationships with similar charities/organisations.
- Analyse trends in the area of health and social care law that can feed into future research projects.
- Develop and deliver Cerebra’s legal rights strategy, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and research priorities.
- Support collaboration across the different Cerebra teams.
- Experience using Client Relationship Management (CRM) systems or similar digital tools for recording and tracking work.
- Uphold Cerebra’s Data Protection Policy and all relevant confidentiality and safeguarding policies.

About the role:
As an IDVA you will:-
- Ensure that male survivors' safety and housing needs are met by supporting survivors to access safe accommodation
- Provide a pro-active, high quality, frontline service to victims of domestic abuse through on-going risk assessment, individual safety planning, advocacy, emotional and practical support.
- Work within a multi-agency framework consisting of the MARAC and local partnership responses to domestic abuse to keep safety central to all services for victims of domestic abuse
- Promote the service and raising awareness of issues arising, minimising barriers and improving access to support
You will need:
- Experience of providing support those affected by domestic abuse
- An understanding of the principles of risk assessment, safety planning and risk management for victims of domestic abuse and their children
- Knowledge of safeguarding issues, and the legal responsibilities surrounding these issues.
- A good understanding of Housing Law to be able to provide up to date advice and information on housing related needs
- Strong communication, negotiation and advisory skills, both written and verbal when interacting with a range of agencies and individuals.

- Strong crisis management skills and the ability to deal with stressful and difficult situations.

We are looking for a dedicated Night Support Mentor to join us in delivering a person centred and bespoke trauma informed support to women in Luton. This new service will provide a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for women facing sexual exploitation and substance dependency – a place they can truly call home. Through stable, person-centred care, you'll play a vital role in empowering women to rebuild their lives and embrace brighter futures.
In this role, as a Night Support Mentor, you will work within a 24 hour service which provided person centred support to our residents, working to ensure the safety and wellbeing. Our residents have experienced multiple forms of exclusion, such as historical/ongoing abuse, involvement in the criminal justice system, mental health challenges, drug and/or alcohol dependency and enduring high levels of violence and coercion. You will build trusting professional relationships with residents, helping them to achieve their goals and aspirations.
Responsibilities Include:
- Holding a caseload, conducting key work sessions which are personable to resident needs
- Carry out regular welfare checks, safeguarding checks, and general living checks
- Encourage residents to take part in activities and events both within the service and the community
- Keep support plans up to date on a regular basis
- Work closely with the rest of the team to provide overall excellent service delivery, this may mean also supporting with their caseloads, and other tasks as necessary
- Building trusting professional relationships with residents, helping them to achieve their goals and aspirations which could be through tailored one to one sessions, group sessions, in and out of service activities, and general wellbeing check ins.

Job Title: Support Mentor
Location: This role is based in Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC), the service is a short walk from Ladbroke Grove (Circle and Hammersmith) station. Unfortunately, this service does not have step free access.

About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Mentor to join our team based in RBKC to support our residents who have multiple and complex needs which could include mental health, substance use, homelessness, and/or offending backgrounds. You will support in providing our residents with the support needed to help them overcome their personal barriers, and achieve their goals in a person centred approach. You will work within a residential setting, creating a safe and comfortable space which our residents can call their homes during their time within the service.
Some Key Responsibilities Include:
- Create tailored support plans through one to one sessions, group sessions, and multi agency meetings
- Holding a caseload, conducting key work sessions which are personable to their needs
- Monitor residents’ wellbeing, carrying out regular welfare checks, and responding to any incidents or emergencies
- Encourage residents to take part in activities and events such as movie nights, cooking evenings, and games nights
- Work closely with the rest of the team to provide overall excellent service delivery, this may mean also supporting with their caseloads, and other tasks as necessary
About You
We're looking for someone who has a true passion to support those who have multiple and complex needs, with a drive to help support those who suffer with homelessness, mental health, and substance use. You will be able to build rapport and trusting relations in a professional setting, and able to build positive outcomes. You will have an adaptable and flexible approach to helping others, with an understanding that each individual has different levels and types of support needs.
- Experience of working with people of complex backgrounds and/or a good understanding of the sector, particularly around multiple and complex needs
- Ability to show empathy and compassion to our residents, and different challenges they face
- Ability to use, learn and adapt to IT at an intermediate level, including Microsoft and other software programs

We are looking for a dedicated team to deliver person centred and bespoke trauma informed support to vulnerable women in Luton. This new service will provide a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for women facing sexual exploitation and substance dependency – a place they can truly call home. Through stable, person-centred care, you'll play a vital role in empowering women to rebuild their lives and embrace brighter futures.
In this role, as a Support Mentor, you will work within a 24 hour service which provided person centred support to our residents, working to ensure the safety and wellbeing. Our residents have experienced multiple forms of exclusion, such as historical/ongoing abuse, involvement in the criminal justice system, mental health challenges, drug and/or alcohol dependency and enduring high levels of violence and coercion. You will build trusting professional relationships with residents, helping them to achieve their goals and aspirations.

- Holding a caseload, conducting key work sessions which are personable to resident needs
- Carry out regular welfare checks, safeguarding checks, and general living checks
- Encourage residents to take part in activities and events both within the service and the community

About the role
As a Lead Worker (Intensive Case Management), you will deliver intensive, person-centred, and holistic support to people who are disadvantaged and need significant support to end their homelessness. About the role:
This role is offered on a hybrid working basis, 1 day per week from our London Singer Street office (every Tuesday). About you
We are looking for an experienced, skilled, and driven person to join the team as a Coach within the Structured Coaching team. You will deliver high quality coaching that enables members to achieve their goal of sustainably ending their homelessness by providing flexible, planned, person-centred support including access to housing, employment and the appropriate learning and skills development both internally and through access to community-based specialist services. You will hold a holistic view of a member's journey with us as part of our "one worker, one member' lead working approach.

Location: Highbury & Islington. Unfortunately, there is no step free access.
Salary: £31,000
Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday: 09:00 - 17:00 This is a Hybrid role 3 days based in our Head Office and 2 days work from home with occasional visits to our various services.
About the Role
We're looking for a Purchase Ledger to join our Finance team to help the organisation meet its financial and legal obligations as well as support central and operational teams with their financial budgets and controls to manage and maximise funds. You’ll be part of a collaborative and supportive finance team, helping to improve processes, develop financial tools, and deliver training where needed.
This role is essential for ensuring the organisation meets its financial and legal obligations, optimising the management of funds entrusted to us for our vulnerable residents and participants. Your work will ensure financial accuracy and integrity across the Group and its subsidiaries, enabling our services to run smoothly and effectively. You will be responsible for managing supplier payments, staff expenses, and procurement processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with organisational policies
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Producing regular reports to support transparency and informed decision making
- Support with weekly forecasts and monthly credit card reconciliations
- Maintain and update financial records and reporting templates
- Assist with audit preparation and ensure compliance with SIG policies and legal standards
- Monitor spending trends and provide clear reports and analysis
- Act as a key contact for finance-related enquiries and stakeholder communication
About You
We are looking for someone experienced in Purchase Ledger, a detail-oriented finance professional who thrives on structure, accuracy, and making meaningful contributions within a purpose-led organisation. You will need to understand the importance of financial integrity in the not-for-profit sector and be passionate about using your skills to support effective service delivery for those who need it most.
Are you someone who has a positive, can-do attitude to your work and take pride in being highly organised, dependable, and responsive. You’re comfortable working with numbers, systems, and people and you know how to balance all three effectively in a fast-paced environment.
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality

- Comfortable balancing independent work with collaborative team efforts
