This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to get involved in an impactful charity making a tangible difference to the lives of refugees here in the UK.
Our work is simple – we refurbish unwanted bikes and donate them to refugees and people seeking asylum, many living on less than £7 a day, giving them freedom and independence whilst they rebuild their lives.
A bike makes a huge difference – not only is it a practical tool for tackling poverty, those who receive bikes from us report they are more connected in their community, happier and healthier as a result:
91% of people use their bikes weekly for essential journeys
84% of people are better able to access legal and other vital support services
93% report better physical and/or mental health
Alongside our core Bike Donations Programme, we support refugee women to learn to cycle through our Pedal Power Programme; provide ongoing support with bike maintenance through our Repair or Replace Programme; and offer the opportunity for connection and friendship through our volunteer-matching Bike Buddy Programme.
“The Bike Project has given me so much more than just a bicycle — it has given me confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging. Receiving a bike as a gift allowed me to feel free in society, explore my community, and even join a cycling group where I’ve met wonderful people.
Thank you again for everything you do. Your work changes lives, including mine.”
Ladan, Bike Recipient
About You and the Role
You don’t need to have experience of being on a Board. In fact, the role would be ideal for someone considering taking on their first role as a trustee. We will work with you to understand your duties as a trustee and support you.
You will, however, have experience of one of more of priority areas we are looking for:
You will be joining a highly committed group of trustees who give their time, expertise and contacts to support the charity. Our trustees are critical in enabling us to thrive and this role plays a key role in supporting the wider board to fulfil its financial responsibilities.
You will work together with the wider staff team to set our strategic direction and improve our work with refugees. At the heart of everything we do is the real and immediate impact a bike makes to the lives of those who have been through so much. You will be part of us achieving that.
The time commitment for a trustee generally totals approximately 8 hours per month. Please see the role description for further details.
Please see the role description for further details.

Help Build the Engine Behind MINDSET Charity
Poor mental health can affect anyone — but men and boys are often less likely to talk about how they feel. Many carry their struggles quietly, without the support, tools or safe spaces they need to grow.
MINDSET Charity is being built to change that.
We’re a London‑based start‑up charity in our concept and set‑up stage, creating a movement that empowers men and boys to develop stronger mindsets, healthier habits and positive futures through action‑based wellbeing. No therapy. Just growth, reflection and real‑world tools that help men become the best version of themselves.
To turn this vision into reality, we’re recruiting an Operations Director (Volunteer) to join our Senior Leadership Team — someone who can help us build the operational foundations, systems and processes that will make MINDSET Charity a success.
This is your chance to shape the operational heartbeat of a charity before it launches.
What You’ll Lead
As Operations Director, you’ll play a key role in:
Designing and developing our early operational systems
Creating structure, processes and workflows that support growth
Helping prepare MINDSET for Trustee recruitment and formal governance
Supporting programme development and operational delivery
Coordinating teams, volunteers and early-stage projects
Building partnerships, networks and community connections
Ensuring MINDSET is ready to launch with clarity, efficiency and impact
If you have connections in London, that’s a huge advantage — but passion, organisation and belief in our mission matter most.
Who We’re Looking For
Someone who:
Has experience in operations, project management or organisational development
Thrives in start‑up environments and enjoys building structure from scratch
Can think strategically while managing practical day‑to‑day needs
Communicates clearly, confidently and compassionately
Believes deeply in men’s mental health and positive male role models
Can give at least 4 hours per week (more if possible)
Wants to help create a charity that will genuinely change lives
You don’t need charity sector experience — just initiative, leadership and a desire to make a meaningful impact.
Why Join Us?
Apply now and help us build MINDSET Charity — one mindset, one action, one future at a time.

We are recruiting a new Chair of Trustees to lead our Board and support the next stage of our charity’s development.
Location: Remote, with occasional in‑person trustee meetings (typically once or twice a year) held in the Clyro/Herefordshire area.
Time commitment: Approximately 1–2 days per month. This includes six trustee meetings a year, occasional ad‑hoc discussions and light‑touch support between meetings (for example reviewing policies or responding to emails).

About us
Established in 2020, we are a small, well-established charity with a strong grounding and a clear purpose. The charity is currently led by a Board of four trustees, supported by two part‑time operational staff and a small group of volunteers.
As Chair, you will provide leadership to the Board, ensure effective governance, and help the charity continue enabling the delivery of high‑quality, trauma‑informed support. You will also play a key role in strengthening the charity’s governance and fundraising, which in turn enables the therapeutic delivery carried out by our specialist partner.
A supportive handover will be provided to ensure a smooth and confident transition into the role.
Person Specification

Warmth, clarity and good judgement, with a balanced, proportionate approach to governance.
A genuine commitment to improving the lives of adopted, fostered and kinship care children and an understanding of the challenges faced by families affected by early trauma.
Confidence in chairing discussions, helping the Board reach clear, well‑considered decisions.
An understanding of good governance, including risk, safeguarding and compliance (or a willingness to learn).
The ability to work collaboratively with trustees and our small operational support team, offering encouragement and constructive challenge while supporting the charity’s governance and fundraising role, which enables the specialist delivery work carried out by our partner.
Strategic thinking, with the ability to help shape the charity’s direction and ensure long‑term sustainability.
Reliability, integrity and a calm, steady approach, keeping the charity’s purpose at the centre of decision‑making.
Meets the eligibility requirements to serve as a charity trustee, as set out by the Charity Commission.

Experience of chairing a board or committee
Experience in charity governance, education, social care, therapeutic work, or community leadership would be helpful, but we are open to a wide range of backgrounds.
Lived or professional experience related to adoption, fostering, trauma or family support.

A warm, committed Board, small operational support team and group of volunteers who work collaboratively and value clear communication.
A meaningful opportunity to shape the future of a small but growing charity with a strong reputation for high‑quality, trauma‑informed support.
Flexible time commitments that fit around work and family life.
A chance to make a tangible difference to adopted, fostered and kinship-care children and young people, and the families who care for them.

Lead the Movement. Shape the Future. Build MINDSET Charity.
Poor mental health can affect anyone — but men and boys are often less likely to talk about how they feel. Many struggle alone, not because they want to, but because they’ve never had a space where opening up feels safe, comfortable or understood.
To turn this vision into reality, we’re recruiting a Managing Director (Volunteer) to join our Senior Leadership Team — someone who can help us build MINDSET Charity from the ground up and guide us towards a successful launch.
This is a rare opportunity to shape a charity before it even opens its doors.
What You’ll Lead
As Managing Director, you’ll play a central role in:
Developing our early strategy, structure and operational foundations
Guiding MINDSET through its concept and set‑up stages
Preparing us for Trustee recruitment and formal governance
Supporting programme development and wellbeing initiatives
Building partnerships, networks and community connections
Helping define our culture, values and long‑term direction
Ensuring MINDSET is ready to launch with clarity, strength and purpose
If you have connections in London, that’s a huge advantage — but passion, leadership and belief in our mission matter most.
