The Role:

Perinatal Support Volunteers provide one-to-one support to parents during pregnancy and up to nine months after the birth. These parents either have mental health issues or are at risk of developing them.

As a Macmillan Information & Advice Hub Volunteer, you’ll get a chance to meet new people and be part of an amazing team of Volunteers. It is really important to us that we provide the practical and emotional assistance required to our clients and that's why both Macmillan and ourselves will give you the support, supervision, volunteer insurance, and training required for the role.
The Hub is a drop in facility aimed at giving advice to local residents living with cancer, their friends and family or even fellow professionals. We have an elderly client in Luton, LU1 who would like someone to visit her at home once a week, or perhaps fortnighly with a phone call in between visits. She moved to Luton from Scotland many years ago and spends most of her days alone at home which understandably gets her down. She has a supportive daughter who works full time and a friend who drops by when she can.
As her befriender, you will provide companionship: friendly conversation and a non-judgemental listen ear, to help make her day a little brighter. Your gift of time, and your companionship will help to break the monotomy of sitting alone at home and will give her something to look forward to. Meetings will be in her flat, or in the communal garden when the weather allows.
You need to be reliable, friendly and caring,English speaking and a good listener for easy conversations. You should also be able to commit to befriending for at least 6 months. Its worth noting that most of our volunteers stay involved for longer, only because they enjoy what they do.
Befriending is a very easy way to help someone who is struggling and can be very rewarding, in fact you might both look forward to your meetings . It can also provide a great opportunity to gain practical experience of working with older adults in the community for anyone who is considering social or care work as a career.
We provide training before you start and ongoing support once you are matched, we also reimburse expenses for travel and refreshments. Two references are required and an enhanced DBS check will be processed.

Behçet’s Disease is an auto-immune disorder which is incurable but can be managed by specialist consultants. It is very rare and can affect any part of the body. It often takes years to diagnose and can be debilitating to the patient.
Behçet’s Patients Centres (BPC), a charitable company, was formed in 2011 to provide the specialist, multi disciplinary care for patients.
We are seeking to recruit a Director to our Board in order to both increase our experience and skills base and to facilitate effective succession management. This is a volunteer role that offers rewarding experience and the chance to make a difference in the lives of those who are affected by this rare condition.
This is a highly autonomous role that will make a big difference to the Board of Directors and their purpose to provide a service to one of the rarest patient groups in England. We’re looking for someone who can come in and help us build on our achievements and do things even better. You will play an important role as a member of the Board of Directors, ensuring they are guided by your expertise. We also work collaboratively with Behçet’s UK, the registered charity for patients with Behçet’s Disease and you’ll be building relationships with that charity.
The time commitment for this role is around 2 to 3 days per month on average, with extra time needed around budgeting and year end accounts.

Operations Volunteer
The Goal: You are the engine room! You’ll help ensure our day-to-day systems, from IT to HR, are smooth and supportive.
We’d love help with:
Daily Support: Helping with office admin, logistics, or coordinating meetings.
Improving Systems: Assisting with our CRM (database) or helping the team get the most out of our tech.
People Support: Helping with the "welcome" process for new staff or volunteers.
What you bring:
A proactive, "can-do" attitude and a knack for multitasking.
Great people skills and an organised approach to busy days.
Tech-savviness (or a quick ability to learn new software).
