Kaleidoscope Trust is a UK-based international charity working for a future where LGBTI+ people everywhere can live free, safe and equal lives. For more than 13 years, we have worked in partnership with governments, activists and community organisations to provide funding, capacity building, research and advocacy support to grassroots movements across the Commonwealth and beyond. In the UK, we work across politics, diplomacy and civil society to ensure LGBTI+ rights remain a central part of the UK’s foreign policy and are championed within international institutions.
We are operating at a defining moment for global LGBTI+ rights. Across many countries, hard-won freedoms are being challenged by increasingly organised anti-rights movements, shrinking civic space and growing political hostility. Yet this period also demands ambition, resilience and solidarity. Having navigated a period of significant challenge, Kaleidoscope Trust has emerged with renewed strategic focus, strengthened partnerships and a clear commitment to supporting LGBTI+ organisations on the frontlines of change.
This next chapter includes the work of our Global LGBTI+ Rights Commission, bringing together research, advocacy and convening power to better understand and respond to the global rollback of rights. We continue to believe progress is possible when communities, governments and civil society work together – and we are looking for a Chair who shares that belief and can help lead Kaleidoscope Trust through this critical period.
We are now looking for a new Chair to lead our Board at this pivotal moment. Our Chair is responsible for ensuring that the board operates effectively and oversees a clear strategic direction for the charity, providing ambassadorial leadership as needed and constructive, supportive partnership with our CEO, Alex Farrow and our Senior Leadership Team. But critically, they will be a calm voice and fierce advocate as we navigate this rapidly shifting landscape.
We’re looking for someone familiar navigating complex human rights systems with the ability to foster high performing governance that enables our team to build connections and to recalibrate for best impact. The successful person will have prior Chair or non-executive experience, or at a minimum sustained Director-level board exposure. They will be an enabling, facilitative leader able to foster robust debate and decision-making, they will be comfortable advocating for the rights of LGBTI+ people and supporting our charity to remain financially sustainable and adaptive to evolving risk.
It’s important to us that as a Board, we represent the people that we are working to support. We know that diverse boards are the most effective, they can think creatively and hold each other to account, therefore we are particularly looking for applications from trans people, women, People of the Global Majority, people without a degree, working class people and people of faith.

This is a voluntary, hybrid position requiring attendance at several board meetings per year at Kaleidoscope’s London offices, several online sub-committee meetings, with wider remote advisory support totalling 10-15 days per year. The Chair commits to a three year term, which is once renewable. Travel expenses for interviews and board commitments will be covered as required. Discussions regarding access needs are welcome.

Treasurer Roles & Responsibilities
Refugee Biriyani & Bananas is seeking a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees and provide strategic oversight of the organisation’s financial health. The Treasurer plays a key governance role, strengthening financial literacy at Board level and supporting sustainable growth. The Board is responsible for governance and strategy and does not manage day-to-day operations.
Refugee Biriyani & Bananas (RBB) is a growing charity registered with the Charity Commission (Charity No. 1189561). For the financial year ending 31 March 2025, RBB reported a total income of £423,041 and total expenditure of £373,007. As a charity with income above £250,000, we prepare annual accounts in accordance with the Charities SORP and undergo independent examination.
As our current treasurer prepares to step down, we are expanding our Board of Trustees to support the growth and future plans of our ambitious small charity. Board meetings take place every 12 weeks via video call, with opportunities for in-person gatherings throughout the year. Additional meetings may occasionally be required, either more frequently, in smaller groups, or one-to-one, depending on specific needs or exceptional circumstances.
Responsible to: Chair, Refugee Biryani & Bananas
Purpose: To oversee the management and reporting of charity finances.
Hours: Approximately six to eight hours a month.
Remuneration: This is a voluntary, unpaid Trustee role. Reasonable travel and out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed in line with our volunteer policy.
Role Summary
The Treasurer will work closely with our team members including volunteers, other Trustees and with the CEO, advising on all financial matters including regulatory compliance. The Treasurer will be expected to attend Board meetings which last approximately an hour and a half every twelve weeks. The Treasurer will:
Actively participate as a key member of the Board of Trustees.
Act as an ambassador for Refugee Biryani & Bananas
Oversee and analyse the development of the annual budget and cash flow forecasts, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy and sustainability.
Support with fundraising and financial strategic planning
Advise on all financial matters, including regulatory compliance.
Oversee the development and observation of financial policies
Advise the board on fund management and ensure an appropriate reserves policy
Advise fellow Trustees on a regular basis of the financial status of the charity and where necessary recommend action.
Oversee and administer financial processes including Gift Aid claims and payroll, ensuring appropriate financial controls, transparency and board oversight are maintained. (There is currently only one person on payroll.)
Work collaboratively with the CEO and Chair to ensure appropriate financial segregation of duties within the constraints of a small charity.
Support the Board in monitoring financial risk, reserves policy and international financial compliance.
Ensure appropriate internal financial controls are in place and regularly reviewed.
Work with professional advisors including any contracted accountants
Review financial transactions on a monthly basis via digital accounting software, Xero
Arrange the compilation and agreement of Refugee Biryani & Bananas’ annual report
Lead Trustee liaison with the independent examiner and oversee the preparation and Board approval of the annual accounts and report.
The Treasurer will play a key role in strengthening financial sustainability as RBB continues to grow its international programmes and funding base.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have innovative ideas and sound financial knowledge. All Trustees are expected to assist Refugee Biryani & Bananas to secure a sustainable and diverse funding base for the organisation.
Essential
Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship

Proven ability to communicate and explain financial information

About Refugee Biryani & Bananas
Refugee Biriyani & Bananas (RBB) began as a grassroots movement in 2015, in response to the Syrian refugee crisis. What started as a group of friends distributing 2,500 portions of biriyani and bananas in the unofficial camp for displaced people in Dunkirk, Northern France, has grown into a community-driven humanitarian organisation. Initially working under the umbrella of another organisation, RBB became independent to better address gaps in aid and advocacy for displaced people worldwide.

RBB supports people facing displacement, war, and inequality, tailoring actions to the needs of each situation. From food distributions to medical support and human rights advocacy, our work is versatile and responsive. We have provided aid in refugee and internally displaced persons (IDP) camps, squats, and other unstable settlements along migratory pathways, including:

Our Approach
RBB is a mobile grassroots organisation, designed to respond rapidly and flexibly to emerging crises. Our main base of operations is on Chios Island, Greece, where we provide ongoing support to people who are displaced.
Since October 2023, we have also established community-led initiatives to support people affected by the war in Gaza, Palestine, as well as Sudanese and other displaced communities in Cairo, Egypt.
Beyond emergency relief, we remain committed to ongoing support through volunteers, translation services, medical care, aid, and advocacy until either local capacity builds or the situation changes. In addition, our Community Humanitarian Leaders Programme (CHLP) plays a vital role in this approach by strengthening the leadership of people who are displaced by building on their existing skills, networks and lived experience in humanitarian efforts.
Our field team comprises 90% individuals from refugee and asylum-seeking communities, representing Sudan, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Gambia, Ethiopia, Palestine, and Yemen. This diverse team is led by our founder and CEO, Ruhi Akhtar, alongside field coordinators / project managers.
We prioritise dignity and equity, involving displaced individuals in decision-making and collaboration. RBB's direct aid includes food, water, shelter, medical supplies, clothing, hygiene packs, and season-specific items like sunscreen or firewood. Needs assessments and communication with affected communities guide our actions, ensuring targeted, person-centered care.
Advocacy & Awareness
RBB amplifies the voices of displaced people by sharing their stories and raising awareness about often-overlooked realities. Through storytelling and advocacy, we aim to challenge injustice and inspire action.
We are a safe space for all people and welcome those who are new to and currently underrepresented on Charity Boards, in particular members who consider themselves to have a disability and those in the global majority. The Vavengers Co-Chair designate
The Vavengers has recently transitioned to a Co-Chair approach to better support our small but dedicated team, and in recognition of the heightened risk of isolation and burnout in small charities. This dual-leadership model allows the Co-Chairs to prioritise staff well-being and offer more robust, active support to The Vavengers staff. The ideal candidate will bring integrity, diplomacy and emotional intelligence to this Co-Chair role. They will have previous Board experience, ideally as a Chair or Vice-Chair and a strong understanding of charity governance and the distinction between governance and operational management. They will have a proven ability to build strong relationships with the CEO, fellow trustees, staff, volunteers and external stakeholders. They should have experience in navigating risk and uncertainty at the organisational and sector level. They must be committed to building an open, collegiate co-leadership relationship with their Co-Chair.
Time commitment: The role involves working with your Co-Chair and CEO to prepare and deliver 4 Board meetings per year, regular check-ins with the CEO, routine check-ins with Trustees, a strong partnership and open communication with your Co-Chair to divide tasks and ensure The Vavengers team is supported. The Vavengers Treasurer
We are seeking a Treasurer to join the Board and oversee financial governance. The Treasurer will:
Provide strategic financial support to the CEO
Establish and chair a new Audit and Risk sub-committee
Monitor financial performance, ensuring appropriate controls and compliance are in place and advising on risk.
The ideal candidate will be a senior finance professional with strong experience in governance, audit and risk. Candidates should be comfortable operating at the Board level, providing constructive challenge and communicating financial information clearly to non-financial colleagues. Knowledge of charity finance and the SORP would be an advantage, but is not essential.
A full handover will be provided by our current Treasurer, who is stepping down in the summer.
Time commitment: The role involves Board meetings 4 times per year, Finance Committee meetings 4 times per year and some ad hoc support between meetings. One Board meeting per year will be in person. All other Board meetings will be via Google Meet.
The Vavengers, Legal Trustee
We are seeking a legal trustee for the Vavengers Board. The legal trustee will already have or will be willing to develop a strong understanding of charity governance and will be eager to grow and amplify the charity’s significant public advocacy work.
The right candidate would bring professional legal experience from one or more areas relevant to our work, which may include human rights, immigration and asylum, media and communication, employment and equality, defamation, risk management, compliance and data protection. Experience in charity law and governance would be an advantage, but is not essential.
A full handover will be provided by our current Legal Trustee, who is stepping down in the summer.
Time commitment: The role involves Board meetings 4 times per year, with additional meetings should the Trustee join one of the charity’s committees. Some ad hoc support may be required between meetings. One Board meeting per year will be in person. All other Board meetings will be via Google Meet.

If you have experience in the private, public or voluntary sectors and the drive to make a difference, East Anglia's Children;s Hospice (EACH) have an opportunity for you to join our Clinical Governance Committee (and one other board committee) in a voluntary role to make a positive contribution to the work we do.
We are looking for a talented health professional; ideally with a background in paediatrics, to join our board of trustees to bring strong knowledge of clinical governance frameworks and healthcare regulations. You’ll bring valuable previous experience at a senior level to give specialised input on clinical governance to ensure safe, effective, and ethical delivery of EACH’s healthcare-related objectives. You will work with the Care leadership team to monitor adherence to healthcare standards, including those set by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
We welcome applicants with a medical background (ideally in paediatrics but not essential), and who bring knowledge of clinical safeguarding, patient safety, equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), and co-production.
Our trustees drive our strategic development and hold our management team to account and the range of perspectives and lived experience trustees bring to board-level discussions helps us respond more effectively to our service users and the children and young people we support.

Position

·Comfortable acting as a trusted adviser rather than providing operational legal services.

Trustee 3: Public Affairs Communications
·Professional experience in communications, marketing, media or stakeholder engagement in a charitable, corporate or commercial environment.
·Proven track record in delivering an understanding of reputation, compelling storytelling and audience engagement which support ambitious fundraising targets at a strategic level.
·Proven track record in developing and delivering a successful communications strategy that supports engagement and fundraising objectives.
·Enthusiasm for championing the charity’s mission and impact.
·Skill in crafting effective and impactful narratives.
Key responsibilities
In addition to general trustee duties, this role will:
·Advise on communications and engagement strategy at a board level.
·Support the enhancement/further development of the charity’s reputation, messaging and public profile.

·Act as an ambassador for the charity’s mission and impact in line with our organisational values.

Basis has over three decades of experience delivering trauma-informed, non-judgemental support, advocacy, outreach and education. We work with people across all sectors of the sex industry, as well as young people and adults at risk of or experiencing sexual exploitation. Our approach is rooted in dignity, agency, social justice and harm reduction, with the voices and experiences of the people we support at the centre of everything we do.
As Treasurer Trustee, you will play a key role in supporting the Board’s oversight of the charity’s financial health, sustainability and governance. While professional financial qualifications are not required, we are looking for someone who is confident in scrutinising financial information, asking constructive questions, and contributing to strategic decision-making.
We are particularly interested in individuals who share our commitment to challenging stigma and inequality, and who can bring thoughtful, independent judgment to Board discussions. Previous experience in the voluntary or community sector, safeguarding, or connections to strategic networks in Leeds would be welcomed.
Trustees are expected to attend quarterly Board meetings, contribute to working groups where possible, and engage with role-specific matters between meetings. An enhanced DBS check will be required and arranged by Basis.
