The Role
The HR Manager will operate across the full range of HR generalist functions spanning the staff hire to retire cycle, supporting members of the team who lead specialisms within this (such as recruitment, onboarding, reward and learning and development) to ensure seamless service design and delivery. As a key contact for all HTB Group Entity COOs, Heads of Department (HoDs) and Line Managers, the HR Manager will consult and agree, in liaison with the Head of People appropriate action and support for entity leaders and their teams in all operational HR matters. They will work alongside other senior members of the People Team to provide advice and support that is pragmatic and culturally appropriate while remaining at all times fully legally compliant. The HR Manager is likely to line manage one or two members of the team and will take the lead in certain areas, skill set dependent.
The Key Responsibilities
- Build healthy, dynamic relationships with entity leaders and managers to continually develop ways of working that fit entity-specific requirements in line with core HTB Group policies and procedures.
- Maintain a knowledge of best practice compliance with employment law and regulatory requirements to support appropriate risk management relating to staff employment and personnel management.
- Oversee complex employee relations cases, ensuring resolution aligns with organisational values and legal compliance.
- Ensure the appropriate and comprehensive documentation of key meetings and discussions between staff, line managers and the People Team regarding HR issues.
- Assist all levels of management with the performance management process, disciplinary and redundancy processes, and probationary period responsibilities.
- Work alongside HR Operations to support delivery of the core HR annual agenda. Lead strategic initiatives in partnership with the Head of People, contributing to the design and execution of group-wide HR strategies.
- Working with the senior People team develop relationships with external providers of benefits and services for the HTB Group.
- Support on annual budget setting and show good stewardship the resources available to you.
- Contribute to the ongoing review and update of operating processes to ensure continuous improvement of the team’s service provision.
- Report progress and people / staff analytics to senior management to facilitate effective decision making.
- Create proactive and effective programmes for upskilling HoDs and Line Managers in their understanding and handling of the full range of employee relations issues.
- Support and contribute to the ongoing growth of our Learning and Development offering.
- Will play an integral part in the recruitment and onboarding process.
- Collaborate closely with the Senior HR Manager to deliver key aspects of the People Team function, providing mutual support, and stepping in when needed to ensure continuity and effectiveness.
The Right Candidate
- Significant expertise in generalist HR practice, including operating at HR Manager level, with a proven ability to lead and influence across both strategic and operational HR functions.
- CIPD qualified Level 5 or equivalent qualification. Chartered Member of the CIPD.
- Credibility with line managers and excellent relationship building skills; a strongly people-focussed stance with the ability to maintain a practical and pragmatic approach to problem-solving and case-handling.
- The highest integrity, sensitivity and confidentiality.
- Unflappable, tenacious attitude that allows the role holder to work effectively in a dynamic and flexible context.
- Excellent knowledge of UK employee relations, with a strong track record of managing complex cases in alignment with legal standards and organisational values.

We are looking for a proactive and values-driven Senior HR Advisor to join our HR team. This is a newly created role and reflects both organisational growth and the increasing demand for proactive HR support, line manager guidance and HR project delivery.
As Senior HR Advisor, you will act as a trusted HR partner, providing confident advice, empowering line managers, and supporting projects and initiatives that strengthen engagement, wellbeing and performance. You will combine day-to-day HR support with delivering improvements to systems, processes and the employee experience, working closely with the Senior HR Manager and Senior HR Officer.
You will also play a key role in helping us embed new digital HR tools, including our HRIS (Employment Hero), Monday, and SharePoint HR intranet. Job Profile
CAFOD has an ambition to be digital first in our marketing and communications, to stay ahead of emerging trends and make the most of what digital technology can offer to strengthen our relationships with our supporters and in our ways of working across the organisation. Digital technology has already transformed our communications and will continue to do so. This senior communications and marketing role will be responsible for steering the ongoing digital transformation of CAFODs work, primarily in the supporter programme and also across the wider organisation.
This role encompasses overall responsibility for the brand, digital marketing, messaging, proactive and reactive media relations, with a core focus on digital transformation across all platforms. This post will play a key role in guiding our digital shop fronts and marketing efforts, evolving supporter journeys, steering our email programme and leading on the digital infrastructure to enable delivery of our supporter programme. It will ensure that digital engagement and conversion is embedded and an integral part of our communications planning.
This role will drive innovation and data-informed insight across the full spectrum of communications and wider organisation functions. It will embed a digital-first approach across teams and guide and accompany the wider organisation on harnessing opportunities of new technologies, making digital engagement integral to communications planning.
This role will drive brand awareness, brand advocacy and action across our programmes to ensure CAFOD is top of mind amongst the Catholic Community of England and Wales, helping to grow support from our constituency. You will bring proven senior-level experience in digital communications and marketing, ideally within the charity sector. With a strong understanding of communications at a senior level with expert knowledge of digital channels, audience engagement, and online conversion, you also have a strategic grasp of how digital integrates into broader communications and supporter strategies. Your leadership style is collaborative and visionary, and you have the gravitas and expertise to set the digital marketing direction for a large organisation, while bringing all teams along with your vision.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic development, direction setting and delivery of an ambitious, insight-led digital-first communications strategy that enhances supporter journeys, increases engagement and drives measurable growth in support of our supporter programme, especially our parishioner-first fundraising strategy.
- Act as CAFODs senior expert on communications, advising the Executive team, across departments and influencing strategic decision-making, including on digital direction and development, at the highest level.
- Lead complex cross-organisational projects that improve our digital supporter experience, from acquisition to long-term engagement and conversion, ensuring timeliness and consistency with supporter programme priorities, especially the parishioner-first fundraising strategy and approach.
- Provide leadership and overall oversight of external communications and messaging, including brand consistency and press/media engagement, ensuring consistency between our fundraising efforts, our campaigning work and profiling our international work to supporters and key stakeholders.
- Lead and oversee the digital teams - email marketing programme, social media engagement, digital developments, campaigns and the website, to ensure user experience is optimised and platforms support our supporter programme and broader organisational strategic objectives and ambitions.
- Lead the media team to explore and encourage new approaches including how we further maximise the digital media landscape.
- Line manage senior specialists across digital marketing, website, and media and PR, ensuring high performance and professional growth.
- Work closely with IT, data and external agencies to ensure agile, secure and effective digital delivery across platforms.

Person Specification
- Extensive experience in a senior digital communications and marketing leadership role, with demonstrable success in developing and delivering integrated and audience-led multi-channel communications and marketing strategies.
- Strong experience of overseeing development of supporter journeys and objectives, website development, CRM integration and email engagement and conversion.
- Passionate about digital innovation and technologies, with deep knowledge of platforms, formats, and trends.

What the job involves
We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated Fundraising professional to join our Individual Giving Team, focussing on our mid value programme and assisting with the production and development of campaigns aimed specifically for this audience.
Direct Marketing plays an important role in the organisation’s fundraising and overall corporate strategy, and we have seen a fantastic growth in our mid-value programme to date. We’re looking for a confident and proactive fundraiser to take responsibility for the delivery and development of this audience and further shape the programme.
As a Direct Marketing Executive, you’ll use a range of channel content to reach and meet the needs of your audience and tailor your approach based on audience insight.
You’ll deliver timely, targeted, relevant communications to warm mid value audience, to engage them wider with the work of Prostate Cancer UK with the overall aim to increase their life-time value.
With internal and external stakeholders, you’ll project manage direct marketing campaigns in the form of seasonal appeals, email updates, and occasional stewardship events. You’ll consistently review KPIs and make evidence-based choices to help assist with growing the programme and delivering our overall financial target.
What we want from you
We’re looking for a Direct Marketing Executive who has excellent knowledge and experience of working in a fundraising environment is vital, you’ll also be able to demonstrate your knowledge and/or experience of stewarding donors by understanding the importance of meeting their needs.
You’ll possess first class communication skills; a strong team ethic and you will be at ease working with key internal and external stakeholders at all levels. The ability to manage expenditure budgets and projects is also essential, along with proven knowledge of data protection and sector compliance. Knowledge of direct marketing and fundraising law would be advantageous as well as philanthropy experience.
