ISWAN has recently created this new role, which will be pivotal to further developing our quality service to seafarers. We have seen significant growth in the number and usage of our helplines and now seek to ensure we have a management structure capable of coping with further helpline growth.

As ISWAN’s Head of Helpline Services, you will be responsible for the strategic development, account management and evaluation of all ISWAN helpline services.  

We have no preconceptions about where the successful applicant will come from but you will bring experience of managing multi-channelled helpline operations and best practice as well as planning, measuring and delivering user and client service improvements.

You will need to be capable of working effectively within a complex international context and have sound experience of service development. This is a part-time role (21 hours per week) but we are keen to find the right person and therefore happy to discuss flexible working patterns. We are flexible about where the role is based but you will be managing helpline operations in the UK, India and the Philippines so you will need to be a great team player.

CONTEXT OF THIS ROLE:

At Purposeful, communications is political. It is how we amplify girls’ voices, sharpen feminist narratives, and push back against regressive agendas. The Communications Director will sit at the heart of this work - shaping and delivering a bold communications strategy aligned with Purposeful’s vision, mission, and growth.

This role leads the stewardship of Purposeful’s voice, visual identity, and storytelling practice, ensuring that everything we produce - whether op-eds, reports, campaigns, or digital content - carries our politics with clarity and conviction. The Communications Director will work closely with the Co-CEOs and across all Purposeful teams, including Advocacy, grant-making, Learning & Insights, Programmes, and Resource Mobilisation, to amplify girls’ organising, showcase our impact, and influence the broader philanthropic and activist ecosystem.

This is both a strategic and hands-on role, requiring a deep commitment to feminist movements, an instinct for storytelling as political practice, and a proven track record of positioning organisations on the global stage.

SCOPE OF WORK

1. Communications Strategy & Leadership

• Lead on delivery and implementation of a new communications strategy, building on 2025 planning foundations.

• Work closely with the Co-CEOs and director team to horizon scan and adapt strategy in response to organisational vision and external landscape.

• Provide leadership to a small team of staff and consultants (designers, digital specialists, artists) and work collaboratively with partner communications leads on joint campaigns and initiatives.

• Meticulously manage and forecast the communications and editorial budget, ensuring value for money and strong planning.

• Track and analyse content performance, using insights to refine reach and engagement.

2. Storytelling & Content Development

• Oversee the creation of compelling storytelling content that highlights Purposeful’s impact, amplifies girls’ and young feminists’ voices, and influences funders.

• Lead editorial planning and content workflows, balancing evergreen storytelling with crisis-response or time-sensitive outputs.

• Oversee production and capture of content from live and digital events (webinars, IG Lives, panels, etc.).

• Coordinate brand refresh projects, including a website refresh, and strengthen Purposeful’s digital visibility with a focus on graphic-led content across social platforms.

3. Writing & Editorial Oversight

• Review and edit all external content to ensure quality, editorial standard, and alignment with Purposeful’s voice and values.

• Write op-eds, blogs, social media posts, campaign messaging, press materials, and executive summaries.

• Collaborate with colleagues in Learning & Insights to integrate data into storytelling and publications.

• Edit and manage the production of publications and reports, commissioning artists and graphic designers as needed.

• Provide editorial oversight for media projects, including radio, film, and animation.

4. Media Engagement & Positioning

• Cultivate strong relationships with international, regional, and local media outlets.

• Proactively position Purposeful in global and regional conversations, ensuring girls’ and feminist movements’ voices are at the centre.

• Lead on preparing and supporting spokespersons, including Co-CEOs and external partners, for media engagement.

• Design and execute media strategies for key campaigns, events, and publications.

• Proven experience developing and delivering communications strategies aligned with organisational goals.

Blue Ventures is a marine conservation organisation that puts people first. We support coastal fishers in remote and rural communities to rebuild fisheries, restore ocean life and build lasting pathways to prosperity. Our work began two decades ago in Madagascar’s remote coastal communities and is growing globally.

Summary job description

We are currently recruiting an Advocacy Officer to support our global advocacy work. The position will provide a broad range of support to the advocacy team, with a focus on ensuring the efficient delivery of the Transform Bottom Trawling Coalition’s dedicated grant mechanism. The grants programme supports campaigns around the world working to address the destructive impact of industrial bottom trawling, with a focus on small-scale fisher-led organisations in low- and middle-income countries. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of marine conservation, human rights, and policy advocacy, contributing to inclusive and impactful campaigns that promote the rights and recognition of small-scale fishing communities.

Reporting to the Campaigns Manager, this is a full-time role with occasional travel to work closely with colleagues and partners. The successful candidate will be a motivated, proactive and highly organised individual with a track record of project management, as well as exceptional written communication. Your role

• Advising on strategy, bringing creative communications, advocacy and movement building expertise to build power across the climate community to catalyse action. 

To date, we’ve used this model successfully to build a strong and empowered communications network to challenge dominant narratives holding back progress in tackling the climate impact of aviation, to mobilise the business community in support of the EU Nature Restoration Law, the first legislation for peatlands restoration across Europe, and to spark action in India that led to commitment from the Ministry of Steel to develop green steel policy. 

About The Role

The Programme Manager will form part of our European programme team, working closely with our functional leads to deliver impactful strategies that target emissions reductions from heavy emitting industries in the EU. This role will focus mainly on the issue of Chemicals Decarbonisation - where experience is preferable but not required - and take the lead on delivering EU-targeted activities and outputs. This role is initially set as a 12-month contract, with potential to extend, and will report into our Head of Policy and Research. 

What you will do

• Work with Climate Catalyst colleagues and partner organisations to develop policy options, positions and recommendations for European chemicals and to ensure effective engagement of business across different stages of our campaigns;

• Identify policy options and contribute to determining strategic policy positions and recommendations for decision-makers and those who influence them.

• Strengthen and build relationships of trust with key businesses, business NGOs, trade associations and other private sector actors

• Conduct stakeholder mapping, research, and analysis to identify strategies and tactics to effectively engage businesses and potentially investors in support of our policy objectives.

• Build knowledge in the field of decarbonising chemicals, with a specific focus on policy mechanisms such as the EU Emissions Trading System and Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.

• Lead strategies with partners for successfully targeting and engaging businesses to achieve goals and objectives to influence government policy

• In collaboration with partners, strategically engage C-suite executives and senior business leaders in support of campaign objectives, drawing on your network and the networks of other colleagues and partners as relevant

• Keep track of climate policy, technology, and economic trends pertaining to the private sector internationally, and specifically in Europe.

• Engage subject-matter experts, consultants, and researchers as necessary to support our strategies.

• Produce business-orientated outreach and policy advocacy materials – including memos, brief reports, letters of commitments, talking points, and speeches for business leaders.

• Produce scopes and terms of reference for targeted research on essential chemicals which will shed light on trade offs and influence our target audience. 

• Represent Climate Catalyst at relevant events and forums organised by partners and businesses associations.

What You Would Bring

1. At least five years of demonstrated experience in engaging businesses towards policy advocacy relating to climate change issues.

2. Experience engaging with EU policy-making processes

3. Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver on organisation-wide strategies.

4. Knowledge and understanding of the key issues pertaining to decarbonisation of the chemicals sector or other industrial decarbonisation policies and areas pertinent to Europe.

5. Strong initiative and an ability to work both autonomously as well as within a team.

6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to distil complex issues for a lay audience.

7. Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with the network of civil society organisations and progressive businesses.

8. Awareness of the potentially diverse opinions and voices of Climate Catalyst’s partners and ensure they are taken into account in our policy positions and recommendations.

9. Ability to adapt and respond positively in circumstances where priorities need to shift quickly, and be open to working on different issues over time.

10. Humble, with low ego and ready to roll up your sleeves.

Additional Information

• This role is fully-remote, with a stipend available for use of co-working spaces.

• Our working language is English. Fluency in an additional European language is highly valued.

• This position requires travel. We anticipate at least two international work trips during the contract period. It will also likely require travel to EU Institutions in Brussels, as well as to events and meetings with European partners.

This role will support our transition from our in-house management platform to Salesforce.

The Opportunity

Our Membership Platform supports the College membership functions to make a difference to the lives of over 3.6 million children taught by our members. It is used to track, manage and support our members to access their benefits.

We are recruiting a Ruby Developer within the Service Operations team to manage our membership platform and provide support to users who access it. During the contract you will:

• Monitor and resolve any issues arising with the platform.
• Manage and maintain the platform so it remains operational. 
• Work closely with the Head of Data and Digital to successfully transform and move the current data and services to a new platform built on Salesforce.
• Support membership operations with reporting, payment and refund requests.

This would be an ideal opportunity to work on a project to move our data and processes from a Ruby platform to Salesforce which will move the College’s processes forward to ensure a strong future. In this role you will: 

• have autonomy for maintaining and managing our existing membership platform;
• work collaboratively with many of the team across the business, supporting recruitment and retention of our members; and
• help to grow the professional membership organisation for the teaching profession and be  part of the team driving the organisation forward at an exciting time for the future of the College.

Platform Management and Maintenance

Most of the time, you will be managing the membership platform, fixing any bugs, keeping the server up to date, ensuring stability, and providing reports to various stakeholders within the College.  You will also provide support to the membership team with refund requests through GoCardless and Stripe.

Data and Process Transition

You will spend some of your time working with the Head of Data and Digital to move all relevant membership data and processes over to Salesforce.  This will entail preparing data in the correct format and providing support to move automated processes over to the new system.
